  1. FNP Oversaturation

I didn't but will now; that is certainly good news, on the doc side at least. The HRSA projections have criteria of course, and limitations. Per their study: "All projection models are sensitive to assumptions and the findings must be interpreted in ...
  2. Do you want to become an NP?

Your "attitude of gratitude" strikes me as a bit off. Normally I appreciate it, but as it relates to this article and your advice, I find it disconcerting. More specifically, you compare your role as an NP, and the pay and hours, to your role as an ...
  3. FNP Oversaturation

Thank you and I agree. I just didn't understand the "plenty of jobs" comment, considering there will be few docs limited to certain numbers of mid-levels.
  4. FNP Oversaturation

Can you clarify? You said there are limits to how many NPs/PAs a doc can supervise, which won't be changing anytime soon. But then you said the future will consist of docs supervising "high numbers" of NPs/PAs in each primary care "unit", which will ...
  5. FNP Oversaturation

Perhaps there is a push in psych (as there should be). However my comment was specific to primary care physicians. It is projected there will be a shortfall of more than 20k. By 2025, 37 states are projected to have a deficit of primary care physicia...
  6. FNP Oversaturation

Looking at the report I posted a little more closely, by 2025, it's expected that 35 states' NP supplies will exceed their demand by more than 50%. And that is at least 50% (ranging up to 250%). As I stated before, though there are a few states wit...
  7. FNP Oversaturation

Increasing NP pay will increase their SUPPLY...not their demand. Unfortunately. I am kind of with you, though, on ambivalence about increasing pay (significantly, at least). While I think the current pay is too low, I also think if we increase it too...
  8. Why do some practices prefer PAs to NPs?

Thank you and I saw your earlier comment. I was just disturbed that two others said the opposite and wondered what made them think such a thing.
  9. Why do some practices prefer PAs to NPs?

Please someone tell me if this is true. This seems absolutely inane to me. The ONLY reason I can come up with that a PA might get 100% reimbursement when an NP cannot is if they are billing under the physician.
  10. Real books vs ebooks

I am purchasing textbooks and am curious as to when a real textbook is more advantageous than electronic downloads. Actually, my real question is vice versa - when are e-textbooks more advantageous? I typically enjoy having a real book in my hand. ...
  11. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

This truly is one of the most sensible comments I've seen as it relates to the RN experience vs DE debate. I know it's been said in a variety of ways that NP education needs to be shored up and standardized. But we constantly compare our own educat...
  12. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

Coming from the insurance industry, I can verify that there was certainly a period of time where they required billing from an MD/DO "provider ID" in order to reimburse. Obviously they came around. I'm not sure why they would have reimbursed NPs fo...
  13. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

Oh, I fully plan to succeed :) I wouldn't be making a mid-life career change (also from a previously successful one) to do this if not! I am excited I have the chance to do it. I am also not planning to go the primary care route, partly because of...
  14. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

There is no need for this sort of response. I did read your article and in fact referenced your point about moving. I think it's important for us to all know the facts (er, projections), don't you? I think people who can move should consider it. I...
  15. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

HRSA released a report in Nov 2016 regarding the supply and demand levels of primary care providers by state. In 2013, some states still had a deficit of providers (such as California), but many, such as TN, had a surplus. TN already had 1000 too ma...
  16. You don't need RN experience to get an NP job

I appreciate your optimism, Full Glass, but I have to wonder if your assertion holds true for the 27 states that currently have a surplus of primary care NPs. I live in one of them, and I do worry about the job market when I do finally get my advanc...
  17. Christmas Bonuses

Sounds like a culture thing to me, rather than any sort of normal practice. I just mean culture-specific to your workplace. It's obviously inappropriate, but for some reason that has become typical for your management and now expected. I bet other ...
  18. Frustrated New Grad

I found it the info, NM!
  19. Frustrated New Grad

Just curious - is this info available on their website for public consumption? And does it disclose type of NP? Like is it FNP or just a surplus of all NPs? Sorry to t/j
  20. Who salary is higher NP or PA?

I do believe PAs are earning a bit more, for a couple of reasons. They tend to be more prevalent in some of the higher paid areas (like surgery and ER), but NPs can work in those areas just as easily...and when they do, all other things being equal,...
  21. Is this fair?

Have you confirmed if your school is accredited, OP? This would make me wonder.
  22. Real books vs ebooks

I still think I prefer real books in general. I am trying Amazon's rental service for this term. We'll see how I like it. May change it up next time.
  23. Real books vs ebooks

    This is a GREAT point.
  24. Nurses, am I crazy for thinking I can do this?

My A&P class was combined, but I did take A&P together with Micro. Had no issues. Patho is in my nursing program (not a prereq) so I can't speak to that. But considering how I handled the others, I think I would have been fine. I also fou...
  25. Future of NP and...my future

I was accepted into a direct entry program, a reputable B&M school, which was to start last August. I chose not to go, for a variety of reasons, but mostly having to do with the season of life my kids are in. I still felt a strong desire to bec...
