  1. I have a coworker who requested a sat in August off for her wedding. The request was placed over a year prior. They denied her " because it's her weekend to work". We also have black out days which we can't take vacation or pto. just an hour ago, ma...
  2. Are physicians that thick?

In our old group, there was one dr who routinely did his own ekgs. Oh how I miss him.
  3. Are physicians that thick?

    Missed quote
  4. Thanks for the support and opposition

Sigh, I wish I could post a link to this thread onto a culprits thread but she'll just call me a bully again. í ½í¸Š
  5. Help choosing, Homecare or Dialysis?

*I* would do dialysis. A big turn off for homehealth is going into people's homes (sometimes not so nice areas). With you being a new hire, you would probably working those areas. I can stomach a lot of nastiness but for some reason going into a pote...
  6. Lol sorry if you think I'm abusing you. Just stating that it seems like you know your options. Like I said earlier, pick your battles wisely. You also stated earlier that you disliked being a nurse at the "rn" level but would rather reenter as an NP....
  7. If you feel you have no option but to "fight", you've already made up your mind. You have some good advice here from others but you keep turning it down. Sorry if I'm wrong but this whole thread seems sooooo dramatic with you being the martyr. I'm v...
  8. Just bite the bullet and transfer. Pick your battles wisely.
  9. Personally, I probably would have tried some sedation first before pressure meds. What do I know? I'm just an ER nurse.
  10. I'm sorry to be so ignorant but I never knew it was required to piggy back potassium with ns going in the piv. In the ER, When I've given iv k+ , it's over at least 4 hours in a large bore (preferably 18g or larger in the ac). If I had a pt complain...
  11. Need Advice, Pato Nurse Relations

Have the ER doc call your Pcp or pain management doc? We also have frequent fliers who have standing orders, however they have to be acknowledged and signed by the ER dr each visit.
  12. Do Male Nurses Get More Respect?

Yes, I feel management loves male nurses. I haven't come across any docs who treat any nurses different based on sex. Id like to say probably 60-65% of the mid levels and docs in the ER are females.
  13. I've seen systolic in the 240's before with multiple patients in the ER. Honestly, unless they are that hypertensive AND symptomatic we usually don't (usually) aggressively attempt to bring it down with iv meds. If we bring down a chronically hyperte...
  14. The HARD Truth for most nurses

Can't believe this thread is still going.
  15. Patient Safety Question/Nurses Conduct

If we receive a pt with aloc/altered mental/combative after a head injury - the ER team may need to intubate the pt to be able to ct the patient. However, there are multiple ways to medicate the pt that should be attempted before going the intubation...
  16. Taking Patients down to the Morgue

Security escorts the patient to the morgue In a large inconspicuous cart.
  17. When did nursing become the answer to the bottom line?

If the hospital wants to pay me my RN pay to stock carts or any other task a minimum wage employee can do - I'm okay with it.
  18. The Fat One

Sorry, kinda skimmed the last. Thought we were still talking about the nursing student. Im not so kind to my one cat. I straight up call him fat ass.
  19. Where's the infection?

Sometimes the body's stress response can elevate the wbc
  20. The Fat One

Ummm. No. it won't. It'll make her feel bad about herself most likely. That comment sounds like one an abusive husband would say. "I said it because I was trying to motivate my wife to lose weight". Yeah, no. QUOTE=cheezwizz90;8414476]I say ca...
  21. New nurse, feeling helpless and depressed

Oh god, my first year ... I still pray every morning walking up the ambo bay. It's coming up on 5 years in June and I still encounter illnesses and/or traumas I've never worked before. haha, makes you appreciate the simple heroin overdoses even mor...
  22. Pre-Nursing Student With Pacemaker and ACHD

If a pt was to ask about the scar I'd probably keep it short and sweet and change the subject. If a pt persists asking about it - just say something like "enough about me, we are here for you today" with a smile. I don't think you'll come across too...
  23. The Fat One

I don't know ...perhaps something is wrong with me. However... I dont give a rats ass if some called me fat, black, ugly, stupid, short, nappy-haired, buck-toothed, metal mouth, saggy-tits, ghetto, soul-less ginger or any other colorful words. Serio...
  24. 21 Things you never mention at a hospital job interview

What?!? Anoscopy part of your interview ?!? Yikes!! To see if you're full of ****?
  25. LAZY CNA's!!

We very rarely have CNAs in the ER but when you do they are amazing. I had one couple weeks ago clean up and put a new gown on a geropsyche pt I had. The CNA never told me or had be asked to - she noticed it needed done and she did it. I later found ...
