  1. ENP or Emergency Physician?

Emergency/acute care NP can do quite a bit esp if you're working life flight. I still ill want to work in the Ed when Im finished.
  2. I need help. =(

Kinda off topic, but I'm surprised they placed you in a free standing ER. Usually they reserve those so strong experienced nurses because lack of support staff. The nurses are responsible for vent management, Cpap/bipap, and ABGs. Good luck, seems l...
  3. Try outpatient surgery/same day surgery. When I was a new graduate, I worked in prep/pacu for sometime. It was very routine and slow - I eventually became bored of the mundane work. I wanted excitement so I went to the ED haha.
  4. CNA as a career

iME, people generally work as a CNA while going to school for a different career, nursing being the most popular. Those lifers generally have many physical problems early in their lives (40's) because being a cna isn't easy. Unless they are married, ...
  5. CNA training at private college: my certificate being withheld

I'm confused about your post. That Vegas comment was probably like HIPAA info. Never heard art of a private CNA college ...isn't it like an 8 week class?
  6. Question...Is Influenza A anaerobic or aerobic?

Yes!!! Based on what cells the virus hijacks.
  7. Would you send this patient to the unit?

Other things like infection and meds can cause acute kidney injury, not just dehydration.
  8. Would you send this patient to the unit?

Personally, I'd ask the dr to reorder the blood work and send down a new sample. If she was a&ox3 with normal vitals. I'd almost question the original blood work. I *know* people who draw off ems iv lines which potentially dilute the samples or s...
  9. renal patients

The others have answered everything quite well. Ive only used the venous dialysis port during codes. Any other times, big no no.
  10. Nurse Tracking Device

So happy we don't have anything like that in the ER ...yet.
  11. Would you send this patient to the unit?

Well, just my experience. Our ER docs don't assign consults to admitted pts, that's left up to the admitting doc to who they prefer. Just because the pt arrived at 1700- doesn't mean they are admitting right away. It's usually At least 90 min from ar...
  12. Problems with ER

Few years back, I was giving report on a cp pt that's now asymptomatic to a floor nurse. The pt original Bp was like 220/140 then an hour after nitro paste - down to 185/100. The floor nurse flipped out and was yelling enough that our ER doc over hea...
  13. Just a Nurse

When pts ask about their radiology results, I always joke that "when I make radiologists pay, I'll do their work too". Then I let inform them the dr will be in to update them. i guess " just a nurse" doesn't bug me. I guess I don't need others valida...
  14. social media problem

Why can't adults act like adults?! Its mind blowing when people get their panties in a twist just because someone else has a different opinion. Id block that person in every way possible. Quite toxic of a person ...
  15. Problems with ER

Please refer to the 22nd post to this thread ... Think page 2 for my opinion/response. thanks.
  16. AWD vehicle for nurses

Nothing wrong with dreaming. Pretty sure when I was a youngin, I had already designed my "forever home and stable" ...even knew where every window and light socket would be. I had the colors And carpet already picket out. So far, I've been spot on wi...
  17. AWD vehicle for nurses

I have a 2015 Mazda CX5 - sporty, fast, cross over, good gas mileage, AWD and handles the "snow belt" well. All for roughly 25k new stocked well ...ie navigation. Seriously, check they out. People love them. My mom just bought one few months ago bec...
  18. do you drink coffee during your shift?

Love the smell of coffee but dispite mass amounts of flavoring, sugar, and cream - can't stomach it. Im a diet pop junky. As long as you have a pulse and are breathing - the awaiting squad or patient request can wait until I use the bathroom.
  19. Pateint education activity for DIC

Thank you for bringing this topic up. I don't think I've had a pt with The diagnosis of DIC in the ED. I know the general info about it such as its a complication from a from a primary condition (infection, recent surg, blood incompatility). Symptoms...
  20. I'm glad I'm not the only one to recognize the OP as overly dramatic. Fyi...here's the old thread with more info. https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/new-grad-student-981178.html
  21. What's wrong with me?

    That's awesome.
  22. Way too many NP programs and grads!

There are good NP'S and bad ones. Just like there are good Dr's and bad ones. Gotta think, they "all" weren't top of their class. Your doc could have been an average or "barely passed" too. Just like every other profession ...you have great, mediocr...
  23. Nurses forced to work as aides

The op leaves a bad taste in my mouth. According to her old posts, she may have MAYBE 4 months of working experience and expects to apply for another job come June. Perhaps in school nursing per her thread topics. Already looking for grad school in t...
  24. Way too many NP programs and grads!

It's up to the prospective student to find a quality program. Even those nps from "lousy" schools may not even pass boards. Unfortunately, healthcare is a business. If there are ways to reduce salary (and nps to accept that pay) it will always happe...
  25. Patient with Dementia's Right to Refusal

I give great respect to those who care for patients with advanced dementia. Ideally, I only deal with such patients for a few hours. If we provide meds, usually they are IV/IM. In the ER, when we receive patients with advanced dementia they usually h...
