Anyone heard any reason gel polish is worse than regular polish?
My workplace went to no gel manicures, tips, etc. Regular polish is OK but I suspect that that these policies are so that supervisors do have to try to figure out what kind you have. Of course while you could have done an exhaustive search of studies rather than tell us that you are not interested in opinions. Happy hunting....... Hppy

Disability.... what's next
I concur with previous posters. I am in a similar situation and have started the process of filing for SSD. I'll be 65 in about 18 months so will likely have Medicare before my SSDI come in. It doesn't help when you have a diagnosis of Auto Immune inflammatory disorder not otherwise specified. StilL What to do after retirement. I love two hobbies that I have done for years but have never had the time to fully embrace what I plan. 1. I have always maintained a large vegetable garden and I also like to cook with a whole "Farm to Table" kind of vibe. I'll likely take some classes and seminars. I have taken on the task of landscaping my front yard and building a she shed in the back yard. I do some consulting with regard to improving facilities JACHO surveys and patient satisfaction scores. I also groom dogs which is what I did before I went to nursing school. Of course I could just become a crazy cat lady. Hppygr8ful

Language barriers - what actually helps?
WHY BELITTLE THE QUESTION, "learn the language" Easier said than done. While I can pigeon my way through a bit of Spanish all hospitals (at least in California) Translations are mandated to be by a certified medical translator. Simply find out which service is used by your facility and uses it. One can't use housekeepers, coworkers for official translations.

SHOE HELP
I have degenerative arthritis as welll as Diabetic Neuropathy in both feet and boy do my dogs hurt at the end of the day. Still I was never one to really invest in shoes. I went to an orthopedic specialty shoe store and bought a pair of Custom fitted HOKA's which cost me dearly. BUt the difference has been well worth. I highly suggest that you seek out a custom fitting. Start with a podiatrist who can give you a proper fit for any anatomical feature of your foot that causes you pain. The hoka's have a wider toebox that most other running shoes.

Nurse Music for nurses by nurses
You can posts links. Each group is its own entity. So if you want to discuss politics you do it in the political room. The general rules are the same as TOS. I have started groups on exercise after 50. Dealing with neuropathy. Diet etc……..

Spanish in patient care: basics or fluency
I think learning a new language is great. I speak a very limited amount of Spanish and can usually make myself understood. Still most hospitals require that verbal translations need to be done by a certified medical translator. That's protects you and the patient and makes sure the information is properly translated. hppy

Nurse Music for nurses by nurses
I was going to recommend using the break room. Most groups are pretty supportive and fun to participate in.

Legal Conundrum - Minors Signing Treatment Plan
I actually have a day off tomorrow so I'll probably just try to call my malpractice carrier to get their input as well.

Legal Conundrum - Minors Signing Treatment Plan
So I've been a nurse for close to 20 years with the balance spent in Psych. We opened a Preadolescent program last year. One of my jobs is to explain the treatment plan and have the minor sign the plan. Please note these kids are 8-12 years old. I am being told having the kids sign is legal but in California which is where I am that children under 13 cannot sign their treatment plan unless they have the maturity and insight to understand what they are signing. I am 18 mos from retirement and don't want to jeopardize my job until I am ready to go. I am worried that this could somehow affect my license if this is reported. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated.

Does being in a monitoring program make it harder to get nursing jobs for the rest of your life?
Even though I completed Monitoring in an Alternative to Discipline program many years ago I would stand with you if you need petition signers or personal testimony.

Severely Depressed
I would very much advise not going to HR. The younger generation (Gen Z) does not seem to understand the function of HR in the corporate environment and yes hospital nursing today is very much a corporate environment. HR exists to protect employers from harm to their bottom line. They are not there for the employee. Lots of incivility occurs in almost every work environment but incivility does not does not meet the leagal criteria for bullying or harassment. If you are trying to prove this you need to keep a specific detailed log of each occurance including the names of any witnesses, If you are determined to go to to HR then sit down and carefully write down anything you recolect about any incidents that occurred. Be careful not to use phrases like "Made me feel like." as feelings are not quantifiable. Remember that HR will only take action if the acts detailed in your log can be linked to your being part of a protected class. This does not include being a new grad or inexperienced. But if it has something to do with your age, ancestry, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, genetic information, HIV/AIDS status, military status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Bear in mond that the cost to onboard a new graduate nurse at a hospital can range from $28,400 to $67,000. This cost encompasses expenses like recruitment, training, orientation, and the new nurse's salary and benefits. This means that hospital's are highly invested in your success. They do not want you to fail. Ask youself this question. If you do go to HR and prevail thus saving your job. Is this a palce you really want to work, because you run the risk of being simply laid off especially of you work in a "At will" environment. I made it a practice a long time ago (I retire in 18mos) to never bad mouth anyone I work with. Nursing is a very small world. I might not say anything good but it won't be bad either. I am not trying to be a Debbie downer just the facts as I see them. Hppygr8ful

Which nurse podcasts do you listen to?
I don't listen to podcasts - I am surrounded by tech all day - I couldn't do it at work even if it was allowed due to the distraction it would cause. When I get home it's out of my scrubs and into reg cloths then out to the garden, greenhouse and dogs. Hppy

To Nurses Who Bully: A Message That Needs to Be Heard
My first job in Nursing was LDRP and the first night my co-workers sent me on scavenger hunt that took me most of the night. It wasn't a very nice thing to do but I sure did know that hospital like the back of my hand be fore the night was done. I tend to take such things in stride and just let it roll off my back like water off duck. Hppy
