  1. Dating Patients

"Dating a patient would be unprofessional behavior at its worst IMHO and one would risk their job and their license. I'm sure it happens (hopefully loooong AFTER the nurse patient relationship ends)...
  2. RANT!! He left a dirty needle on my table!

Actually, our trays don't come with sharps. Hemostats, scissors, clamps and needle drivers, yes... needles, nope. Not on there. Docs pull their own sutures from the drawer. I wasn't trying to say...
  3. RANT!! He left a dirty needle on my table!

I can deal with the fact that he left all the equipment out. I can even suck it up that he didn't dispose of the needle into the sharps box. The point of my anger is that he couldn't be bothered to...
  4. RANT!! He left a dirty needle on my table!

Good point! Since the other nurse said he generally doesn't pick up his sharps, it's probably common knowledge. Having my NM talk to him sounds much better.
  5. RANT!! He left a dirty needle on my table!

Actually, most of our residents do that too. They put all the scissors and stuff in the basket (that we leave on the table for just that reason, it's easy and convinient for them to toss stuff in...
  6. RANT!! He left a dirty needle on my table!

Thanks for all your replies! I wanted to fill out an incident report on it (at my facility we use those for injuries, med errors or near misses) but the other nurse I talked to acted like I was nuts...
  7. Drug Testing At Hospitals

I'm with ya! It's nobody's business what we do outside of work on our days off. Now, being impaired at work is another story. Nurses are too important in the outcomes of their patients to come to work...
  8. How about your favorite Old Wives Tales related to health?

  9. How about your favorite Old Wives Tales related to health?

I think you can still do that with the draino crystals. Bob and Tom (the radio guys) used to have instructions for it on their web
  10. Needle Stick :-(

Sorry about your stick! That's why I hated drawing blood off picc lines. I mean, sure, the labs were drawn when they were supposed to be instead of 2 hours late, but still... Haven't done it that way...
  11. Deadly Epidural

Our private docs aren't nearly as bad as the residents. The residents will say they really recommend the epidural and think it's best for the pt if they get one. What steams me is that they only do it...
  12. Well Patient Who Did Not Want to be Coded

  13. Well Patient Who Did Not Want to be Coded

So he's 43, otherwise healthy and wants to be a DNR without his family knowing about it, right? Call me crazy, but I don't see a problem with it. I agree that he's really young to be making that...
  14. I didn't get all this education to wipe behinds!

i've said it before i'll say it again..."i know that nurses are extremely busy, but so are cna's" and if they are too busy to get to a pt to give them a bedpan then it IS the NURSES job to do it...not...
  15. What do patients say that irks you?

I HATE that!!!! :angryfire Mom's laying in bed, trying to enjoy the clear liquids she's allowed to have and in comes the entire clan with KFC, Wendy's, etc. I've started telling moms and families...
  16. Dear Abbey, about a nurse

If I remember the thing about people in scrubs, it was from "Ask Marilyn" not Abby. Either way, it said that people who wear scrubs in public are trying to project trustworthiness or carrying all...
  17. Dear Abbey, about a nurse

someone needs to write and tell abbey that its not the doctor's job to discipline a nurse because the nurse doesn't belong to him. if their is a valid complaint against a nurse, it should be made...
  18. How do you hold legs while pushing?

I just transferred to L&D at a large teaching hospital with a top notch NICU. However, for all the deliveries I've been in the room for, mom's had a heavy-duty epidural and couldn't really feel to...
  19. do you HAVE to assist with circs?

When I was doing an internship in transitional nursery, I got to watch a few. The residents always used lido, some of their blocks weren't the best, but at least they tried. The older MDs would say...
  20. violent alzheimer's....

Yeah, we all got the biggest kick out of it. She thought that we were all doing it wrong. She tried doing it what she thought would be "the right way" and got a black eye to show for
  21. violent alzheimer's....

Don't count on it! The ECF I worked in had a seperate dementia unit. We had a patient that swung at anyone (residents, staff, family) in arm's reach. His family had been caring for him at home until...
  22. Wow, how quickly the flames do rise.:angryfire Can I just be a friendly reminder that this is where we can all come to blow off steam? I understand that discussions can get heated at times and...
  23. Ever caught a visitor playing with an IV pump??

I've heard of patients with kvo NS hitting the pca button a few times, then turning up NS rate to get all the PCA doses in a rush. I think that's what she was talking
  24. Mom's in the hospital... (it's a little long)
