  1. Oh wow, that makes me so happy thank you for sharing!! It means so much to me when people share how they plan to use it! That's wonderful and I'm excited that people are using it, thanks! ?
  2. Towards the end of nursing school, I spent a week in the lab helping medsurg nursing students with their head to toe assessments. I noticed right away that many students struggled with organizing their head to toe assessment. I, myself, would frequen...

    My husband wakes me up!

My husband used to wake me up really early when I had been up late the night before for clinicals, studying, etc. It would usually be one of the only chances I would have all week to sleep in, and he would wake me up extremely early. One time I final...
  4. Thank you so much!! ?
  5. In microbio we put my friend's acrylic nails under the microscope. She was so grossed out that shortly after she took them off and never wore them again haha. OP, as others have said, you cannot wear fake nails and work in nursing! You'll have to de...

Nurses are you glad you chose your career?

I am extremely happy with it, and believe it was the perfect choice for me. But its so personal... it really depends on the individual. But yes I LOVE IT! :) If its what you've always wanted, you'll hopefully be really happy too!

    Head to Toe Assessment

I created this method for the students at my school. Its based on the idea that the head to toe assessment is very organized and systematic, and that at the most basic level each system has just 3 things to assess. I call it the "Rule of 3s" Practice...
  12. OP, I was diagnosed with ADD as a child, and my brother has it as well. Through the years I've noticed marked differences in my academic performance from when I don't take medication for it compared to when I do. I currently take Adderall. I have a...

Second Week of Clinicals, Not Going Well

Hey OP how are things going?
  14. Hi everyone, I had my first med error the other day, and I noticed a lot of threads on here of people discussing their first med error and what happened. It was a huge comfort for me to read through the different threads and realize that #1 I wasn't ...

Second Week of Clinicals, Not Going Well

I was very timid when I started nursing school. I was terrified of everything, everyone, and cried all the time. I seriously questioned if I could be a nurse, and it was a very difficult and dark time. A couple of years later I'm working in the ER an...

    Potential 2 jobs. Need advice

I would choose one, and stick with it. I'm a new grad and I can tell you the learning curve is steep. You're at a high risk for spreading yourself too thin and underperforming on one or both jobs and burning out. Trust me on this. You're a new grad....

Clinical makes me want to quit

This comment made me tear up a little bit. You seem like a beautiful person, and your patients are lucky to have you.

    Nursing school plus lifting restrictions?

I think it depends on the program. We've had people go to clinicals in leg casts and crutches before. I would suggest talking to your school first before making any big decisions.

    "Please" and "Thank You"

In my old job I would get aggravated if someone wouldn't use please and thank you. Mostly because it was such a small staff and being polite was the standard with everyone. So it was rare not to be polite. Now, though, in the hospital, there's just t...

    Getting kicked out of program

The thermoregulatory theory of yawning: what we know from over 5 years of research there we go :)

    Getting kicked out of program

I would like to jump into the fray. Research as of 2014 indicates that yawning may be a mechanism for thermoregulation! It's actually really awesome. Things such as sleep deprivation and exhaustion can cause an increase of temperature in the brain. Y...
  23. Do you have a set rubric for your head to toe assessment?? If not, I think I have something that might help you.. edit: I just saw the update on what the main problem is here. How confident do you feel on your head to toe assessment? Could your profe...

    Getting kicked out of program

The OP didn't say that though.. they said that they were up all night studying for a big test, not that they were disinterested or that they didn't know why it happened. While it doesn't make a great impression, being exhausted from studying all nigh...

    Clinical placement in ED

From my senior capstone experience, we were not only allowed but encouraged to get involved in traumas and codes as long as we buddied up with a nurse. I was told to keep back only one time and that was during a pediatric GSW, and in that case I was ...
