  1. Difference between ASN Vs. BSN?

I am starting an ADN program in the fall. I have a BS, but, like you, a GPA less than 3.0. Here's the scoop (as I understand it): ADN/ASN. This is an associates degree in nursing. You can go to your local community college to obtain one. However, mo...
  2. CNA training/vaccines...ADVICE:)

I just wanted to commend OP for asking questions, being proactive and thinking outside the box on how to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse. Good luck with your vaccinations, CNA class, getting a job as a CNA and eventually becoming a nurse. PS. T...
  3. Why not start on msn courses?
  4. Mane with MetroState

I went to look at the MetroState curriculum plan. It's 46 credits. Mankato is only 30. So, even though MetroState is cheaper per credit, when everything is included, it could actually be the same or cheaper elsewhere.
  5. Mane with MetroState

Yeah, it's super cheap. I was finally admitted on July 5. So, at least that part is cleared up. I guess I'll wait to see how much of the program can be done online. Flexibility may trump cheap (to some extent).
  6. Fall 2015 ARCC

Sign up for the TEAS early! When I tried to sign up, no spots were left for the earlier dates, so I was unable to take it twice.
  7. Anyone have an MSN with no BSN? Problems with this?

I haven't even started nursing school yet, but I googled and found: http://www.nursecredentialing.org/DEO-FAQ#B1 I'd think that if the CNO, nurse leaders and nurse managers are allowed to have a masters in nursing with some other bachelors, you'd thi...
  8. What was your GPA, when you got accepted into nursing school?

Just to add some balance....well under 3.0, but my school only looks at the prerequisites. I have 4.0 in the prerequisites.
  9. Is cheating a double standard?

Whoever told you life is fair lied.
  10. Mane with MetroState

I'm completely frustrated with MetroState. I've been admitted to NHCC, but MetroState has not accepted me yet. They ask for this or that for admission, but then change their minds. They don't call me back when I try to figure out what it is they want...
  11. Leaving the JD behind for a RN --> NP?

I am a lawyer. I've been one for about 15 years. If you do not have a burning desire to be a lawyer, I highly recommend you do something else. The job market for new lawyers is probably worse than the market for new nurses. If you do not graduate at ...
  12. Lost and confused. Would appreciate any advice!

I graduated with a 2.67. I had 3 D's and 3 A's -- the rest were B's andC's. Fast forward 20 years (you are lucky you figured it out much sooner than I did). Obviously, anything I had taken was too old. Schools I talked to were unrelenting in that 3....
  13. Mileage question--is this the norm??

    http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs22.pdf I don't know what's normal, but that just doesn't seem right.
  14. Really horrible working conditions with NO support

Can you go talk to your manager? I have been in a similar situation, where I have not received a response to an email. I took it personally, as if he was ignoring me and my issue but, when I spoke to him, I realized that he had just never seen my em...
  15. MLT VS RN

    MLT is medical lab technician.
  16. Reputations of Various Programs

Can anyone provide any insight on what employers think about the various Twin Cities nursing programs? I'm entering NHCC this fall, so I am particularly interested in that one, but I'd like to hear what you have to say about the entry level masters ...
  17. What about becoming a CRNA? It sounds like you might be more suited to something more strictly STEM. Engineering? A biomedical engineer?
  18. Teas score

If you search the Minnesota page under United States Nursing, you'll find threads about NHCC. Admissions are ranked by TEAS/10 + GPA. So, if you have 77.2 TEAS and a 4.0 GPA, you have 7.7 + 4.0, or 11.7. For last semester, I think the lowest it went ...
  19. Career Changers

Trust me, you don't want to wake up every day 10/20 years from now thinking "I only have to make it another 35/25 years 'til retirement." I start an ADN program in the fall, at age 43.
  20. What do you want? What happened to you was horrible, but you have to get past it. No matter what field you enter, you will find people who don't treat others as well as they probably could or should.
  21. Worked 24 hours/3 consecutive 8hr shifts

Under federal law, I think no limit exists on the number of hours you can be required to work in a day. Some states have enacted some protections. Where do you live?
  22. North Hennepin Community College program?

I purchased one set via Amazon just last night for maybe $43 for top and bottom. I hope someone knows of someplace cheaper! I am guessing that I'll need more than one set.
  23. New Grad RN program $15/hr

It's not forever. My take on first jobs after school is that it is like the TEAS, NLCEX and every other hoop you have to jump through. The first job is the hardest to get, so even if the pay sucks, commute sucks and the shift sucks, it's a job. After...
  24. Career Change ASN or BSN

I also have a BS and a graduate degree and am making the switch too. I start my ADN program in the fall; its three semesters, with the option of going on for the BSN. I was in a different position than sheridans2u in that my GPA was not competitive f...
  25. Can anyone please help me recommend a pathophysiology course?

Minneapolis Community and Technical College has a 2 credit online pathophysiology class over the summer.
