  1. I am in my first semester of the RN program and we did go over IM locations. Our instructor has told us that if we find a patient that needs an IM to let her know so that we can have the opportunity to do one. The whole semester I have been able to only give one and that was because I was able to talk to the person in charge of giving the flu vaccination for that day and I was able to get her to speak with my instructor and they had each of us students do atleast one flu shot each. Otherwise, I have not had the opportunity to give one on the med surg floor. And I fear that I am already forgetting the locations, and so I will need to go back and study the different sites. I think that is what is happening, not enough opportunity and so many people forget what they learned especially after a long time.
  2. My instructor loves papers. We had two patient problem solving plans that needed to be 18-21 pages long, one group paper, and a clinical journal we turn in weekly, mine are usually about 10 pages long. I struggle with writing, but I have learned quite a bit and am more confident with my writing skills now that I have to do it all of the time.
  3. Im currently a first semester NS and I have four children ages 11, 10, 7, and five. The most difficult thing for me is the guilt. I get some help from my parents but my children keep telling me they miss me and for the first time I am going to have to miss one of my children's thanksgiving program (my youngest who is in kindergarden). It breaks my heart and I try to spend as much time as possible with them. I just keep telling myself that it will be worth it once I am done and my children will be able to reap the rewards of this accomplishment too. It is doable, but if you have the opportunity to wait you might want to consider it. On the other hand, the sooner you get through with school the sooner you will have more time with the kids and also accomplish your goal. I know that if I just kept waiting until the perfect time I would be a grandmother going to school and so I am doing it now. Good luck in what ever decision you make. Angela
  4. I just went to mine yesterday. We got paperwork done and heard a bit from some of the instructors. I met a few students who I will be in class with and we ordered uniforms. It was a good day, but it also made me even more nervous. They kept talking about how things are going to change. I am going again today for the refresher courses. Today is voluntary and I wanted to take advantage of any help they offer. I wish my stomach would just relax:icon_roll Angela
  5. accepted with a 3.76. But it was a miracle. I was not accepted at first because we were supposed to get our responses in the beginning of May, I never got mine. When I called they said I had not been accepted. Then on June 17 I received an acceptance letter, the reason being that the school had gotten a grant and was now able to accept more students. At first they only accepted 12, and now they accepted 24. I am truly counting my blessings because a counselor told me they never had accepted any one under a 3.8 (they go by gpa). So try your very best to keep up your gpa it will only help you. Good luck!! Angela
  6. It is awesome to have a dr. that takes the time to give quality care to his patients. More and more those kind of Doctors seem to becoming less and less. Im happy for you that you have a doctor like that. Good luck to you. Angela
  7. DATE RECIEVED: July 17 PROGRAM: ADN SCHOOL: Mt. San Jacinto CC STATE: California WHEN: August 18 I was so excited to get in. Due to the school receiving a grant they were able to accept 12 more students. Thankfully, I was one of the lucky 12.
  8. Name: Angela School: Mt. San Jacinto Program: ADN What area of interest at this time: Land D/Mother-baby Biggest fear: Failing as a patient advocate What you'd like us to know about you: Mother of 4 boys, and a wonderful husband. They are all cheering for me.
  9. I am currently a volunteer, and also waiting to get into the RN program. It has been a great experience. We had three days of training and then had to pass a test to be able to volunteer. But it was worth it because all of the volunteers in this program are either pre RN or pre med and so after passing the test we are able to have a lot of hands on with patients. I have given baths, changed diapers, helped lift patients. Being able to do these things has really reinforced my feelings of wanting to be a nurse. Some of the RN's on the floor will sometimes call me over and show me how they do certain procedures. Probably simple ones for them, but neat for me to see, such as inserting a catheter or an IV. I am currently helping on med-surge floor. But we go to a new floor every three months so I am hoping to go to ER or OB next. I think we are greatly appreciated, when ever Im there they ask how long do I get to stay and an RN on the second day I was there yelled out "we love you guys, your all so helpful and you know what your doing." So I think if you just try your best, overall you are appreciated. Angela
  10. Lovenursing422, Congratulations!!! I am still waiting. Trying to calm myself, but really getting frustrated each day the mailman comes and still no letter. Ugh, this is too much. Angela:smackingf
  11. I totally understand how you are feeling. I am waiting also, my anxiety is sky high. I can't vent with my husband or family, they just think that I am whining. Basically I have been excercising like crazy, its a good thing since I have been emotional eating too. Excercising gives me something to do and takes my mind off of school for a bit because of the physical pain. Haha. Anyways, I was told when I applied we should get a response in the beginning of May. I can't wait. Good luck to you all. Angela
  12. Congratulations, I am so very happy for you. You will do great!!!
  13. Good luck fun2care, I am hoping and praying for the best outcome for you. This waiting ordeal is sooo hard, I am waiting until the beginning of May for a letter. But everyday I go to get the mail a bit if anxiety hits me and im always thinking what if its early. Best Wishes, Angela
  14. That was great! Some times I wish I could go back and be young again. Boy, I remember when the shuttle exploded, that was horrible, I don't think I will ever forget that. Remember not having a remote control and having to get up every time you needed to change the channel. Anyways, thanks for the laugh. Angela
  15. Congratulations!!!! I am so happy for you.:balloons: I can't wait to find out whether Im in or out, it's driving me crazy. Angela
  16. My chances are not good. At the school where I want to go there are only 12 open seats and last semester there were approximately 180 applicants. I do not have a 4.0. But, you never know. Two of the 12 will be chosen out of a hat per say. The other 10 get in by gpa. Im making sure to apply to other schools and get on there waiting lists. Good luck to you! Angela
  17. Keep going. Don't give up, and try to relax. I had a friend that failed more than one test in A+P and she made it through. You can do it. I think you just need to work on controlling the test anxiety that you get. Try to keep it in check, don't forget to take some deep breaths and work one question at a time. Good luck to you.
  18. I am right there with you. In fact today I just asked my husband what are we going to do if I don't get in. My gpa is a 3.75 and the nursing school goes by gpa only. I am trying to stay positive, but in one of my classes is a student that applied last semester with a 3.8 and she did not get accepted. Im thinking that if I don't get accepted, next semester Im going to take the cna course. And when I apply again to the school I will apply to both the lvn and RN. I've heard that the lvn transition to RN is easier to get in. It just takes a lot longer to finally become an RN. I won't know anything until we get our letters in May. I wish you Good Luck. Angela
  19. CONGRATULATIONS, I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT PERFECT FOR YOU.
  20. I have 4 boys, the first three were trained at three years of age no problems. My fourth son was also trained at three years of age. During the day he takes care of himself (he's 5 now), its just at night that he still has problems. But, this does not cause any trouble in any other part of our parent-child relationship. I personally do not agree with you, children are all different and learn to be potty trained at different times. Comparing a child to a puppy really just doesn't seem realistic to me.
  21. I have suffered from stones, I had my first when I was thirteen and my last 5 years ago (4 stones all together). I was told to stay away from protein and caffiene. All I drink is water, juice sometimes, and milk every blue moon. My last stone I had surgery to remove. I definitely don't want to go through that again. It's a horrible pain to suffer through and I hate comparing to labor because the rewards of labor is a cute little baby to cuddle. I never really bonded with any of my stones. I hope all goes well for you and that you feel better soon.
  22. I will be applying on Feb. 1st. That is the same day as my birthday so I'm hoping for a bit of good luck. I have everything I need and so Im just sitting and waiting to turn it in, then more waiting for a response. Good luck to all the rest of you.:wink2:
  23. I have 4 boys and there seems to always be clutter around the house with all the toys. As long as I know the deep cleaning is done I just do an occasional pick up around the house. My sister has a model home at all times, and sometimes I envy how clean and beautiful her home always looks. But then I also notice she never just relaxes. She is always cleaning. I know I couldn't be like that. I need to have down time, or play time with the boys. I figure the dishes aren't going anywhere and I'll get to them sooner or later. I'm also working on getting the boys to actually start picking up after themselves. If only I can get their dad to do it first as a good example. Angela
  24. I have my lab practical on Tuesday, a test on two chapters on Thursday and my final is on the 13. Im so close to burn out in this class. I have an A but this last lab practical is killer and could make or break my A. I just can't wait for this next week to be over. Good luck to you all. Semester is almost over. Angela
  25. That's good that you called your doctor. I hope everything turns out well for you and your little one. My little one is going to be 5 in December and is healthy, thankfully. Angela
