  1. First job woes

Which is definitely livable. I'm going to counter and see.
  2. First job woes

My hospital simply does not pay well. Low 90s (florida). This job offer is one of the main hospitals in Baltimore. Seems doable as far as living (single individual, dogs). I'm going to attempt to counter but also feel once I gain experience I'll ha...
  3. First job woes

I agree. Job prospects are slim and I feel like the waiting game is not working in my favor.
  4. First job woes

New offer. Maryland. Rotating shifts in ICU. Salary $100,000 Increase by 5% after 6 month period. Shift differential between 9-20% $2250 CME with 1 week not taken from PTO. Full benefits. 6 month orientation. Relocation assistance.
  5. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)

Perhaps it was the format of my program but the entire cohort was experienced ICU nurses and one ED nurse. The content was highly focused on critical care and without the ICU background would be extremely difficult for someone to stay ahead and grasp...
  6. California licensing timeline 2018

My application for the NP portion (already had my RN for the state) was submitted June 15, 2018. Just last week I got a letter stating I was missing a form. Come to find out that my university only submitted one of two forms I sent them previously. S...
  7. First job woes

Waiting for additional offers is a drag. Haha.
  8. Question. I've done some research and read previous posts but remain slightly unsure about the process involved with the following. I currently work and hold a multistate license in Florida, RN and have my APRN license in the state. I am potentially...
  9. First job woes

Quick question... anyone ever lose a job offer by trying to negotiate? Or does HR simply refuse to budge on the offer leaving the applicant the choice to take it or walk?
  10. First job woes

Thank you for the helpful advice and Baltimore tip. I'm sure I'll be needing it for my next offer.
  11. First job woes

This is all very helpful. I appreciate your feedback. I was definitely in unfamiliar water. Next time. Thank you!
  12. First job woes

After the initial offer I noticed such things as malpractice insurance and CME were not mentioned in the phone conversation or in the offer; so I asked about - malpractice, CME, relocation assistance (90 miles away from my home), shift differential (...
  13. First job woes

It was hard to say no but I feel it is important to be firm. I have three other locations where I am in the interview process so I will (hopefully) have upcoming options and can only hope that I wasn't too picky as a new grad.
  14. First job woes

Thank you for the responses. The offer of employment is via the hospital and not a select group. I would not be the first NP. I have other interviews with potential offers. This current offer does not include malpractice insurance (stated I would be ...
  15. Need advice

    Stepdown.
  16. Have you looked at any of the requirements for admission into these programs you're interested in applying to? It should be listed there which would answer your question.
  17. Should I go get my DNP? HELP!

Perhaps the added years of nursing experience will benefit your future career as an NP. If you don't feel this to be true, as it's a matter of opinion, then go to another school.
  18. Recent AGACNP test takers?

Anyone recently take the agacnp certification exam? Just looking for some helpful (current) tips. I am reviewing Barkley and sit for the exam soon.
  19. Recent AGACNP test takers?

Just update whoever is following. Passed the ANCC Adult Gero Acute Care exam today. Barkley/Liek were my resources. I did attend the live review with barkley and utilized Liek only for additional test questions. DRTs prior to taking the exam were &g...
  20. ExamEdge for PMHNP

Take the free examedge questions it gives you, 10 or 25 I think to gauge how you like it. I did the practice free exam for AGACNP with examedge and thought the questions were very elementary / poorly written and would not be in any way reflective of ...
  21. First patient fall...

Falls happen. My first fall happened 3 years into my career.. in the ICU. The patient also happened to be well over 400lbs. There were no injuries, thankfully. All you can do is look back and learn.
  22. Recent AGACNP test takers?

Congratulations, with the DRTs what percentages were you getting?
  23. Best Way to Look for Jobs

You go to the website of the hospital you're interested in applying for... go to their career section and apply directly. There is no reason to go to indeed.com when you can go to the hospitals website and apply.
  24. Cautious ask: If you hated being a RN, would you enjoy NP?

Do you not feel that those same demanding patients will be present and now you, as the provider, are responsible? Push from administration to discharge patients. Satisfaction scores. Pain seeking patients demanding medications. RNs paging you for co...
  25. Confused with offer

Hey new to the traveling world and a bit confused with the offers and what exactly I am getting myself into.. I am not too concerned (yet) with if the offer is "good" or not, but more so what my pay is and where it is coming from. I've attempted seve...
