The Real War Against COVID-19 in America

We have turned our hospitals into five star hotels and nurses are the scapegoat maids when there are problems Enough of the two tiered health system that increase health disparities. Enough of unsafe patient ratios that are not based on patient acuity or skill levels of the staff Enough with the open door visiting hours which do not improve patient outcomes Enough of basing Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements on patient satisfaction scores Enough of million dollar, state of the art machines that only inflate the real cost of health care Enough of for profit hospitals that cut employee benefits to increase their profit margins and big bonuses Enough of big pharma, insurance companies lobbying and controlling health care in America.

    The Nightingale Pledge.

Original "Florence Nightingale Pledge" I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practise my profession faithfully. I shall abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and shall not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I shall do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. I shall be loyal to my work and devoted towards the welfare of those committed to my care We are not expected to work in unsafe conditions without PPE We are expected to be devoted to those in our care, not being blasted with phone calls, being filled with guilt because the floor is short staffed. We should be advocates of our profession, safe staffing ratios, equipment, and people before profits. If you cant go to work because you are sick or feel it is not safe......it is okay.

    Where to work?

Hi UK nurses, Hoping to make it to the UK by the end of the year/early 2021(depending on Brexit &NMC registration). I am open to working anywhere except London due to the cost of living.Looking for suggestions on where to end up? In my 30s,love the outdoors and the sea, hiking. Looking for a budget friendly place near a city but yet close to nature and not too isolated(I have a car) It would help if it is warmer than Dublin. Currently looking at Plymouth?Southampton?Bristol?Glasgow? Thanks a bunch.

    nurse with hiv

I believe the US will be your better option, they do not do a HIV test for immigration.Unless your condition would affect your ability to do your job,you are not required to disclose your status to your employer.Hope this helps:)

    Blue Card Program

Hi everybody. I an American nurse with five years ICU experience. I am thinking of migrating to Germany. Does any one know how I can go about applying for the blue card program? I don't speak any German so it is hard to get all the information that I need.
  9. Does your job have float pool for techs? You might want to get into that, be in good terms with the staffing coordinator and let them know you prefer to work in the ICU. You can also talk to the ICU director yourself and see if you can get in. If that fails, most ICU managers are over other floors like stepdown. Get a tech job there and be the best tech ever and soon enough all the nurses will know and will be willing to put in a good word for you to the manager.

How much do you owe in student loans?

    0. I paid my way through school. Halfway through my masters, and paying as I go. The best decision I ever made was to go to a community college for my ASN.
  11. I love when a pt comes through the ICU practically dead and transfering them to a regular floor better almost recovered. To me, that is the most rewarding thing about my job......saving lives. On the other hand, nurses deal with alot of stuff that we dont have to....my worst pet peeve is when dietary messes the food order or housekeeping does not clean it is the nurses' fault, why????? This forum should help you realize that nursing is not what it is potrayed to be and I believe we are helping you be more prepared. We vent out here because it is the only place I can without consequences and most of the nurses here understand where I am coming from.

    Follow up????

Have you tried to shadow the floor you applied for? Make sure you meet the manager and tell her how interested you are and you have an application on file. How about networking? If you have friends working there they can enquire for you too

agency Nurses, How do you do it??

If I like a hospital, I go there again and again and eventually I will know everything about the place. Nursing care is all the same, the charting and policies are what makes agency nursing tricky. If you are not afraid of learning thimgs as you go, then you should be fine.
