HELP!! Trying to decide if I should change fields...

I think that employers will turn their nose up if you try to get into the OR but had not been doing so for a good while. However I know how you feel because i just accepted a position in a Center to work 4 days a week for 10 hours a day with no nights, weekends or holidays and it is a blessing becaue I need family time and I can not be consumed with work. They are still hiring but it is in Maryland and I dont know if you live in this area.

    Starting to feel burned out

That is sad but you need to do what is best for you and your family. I live in Maryland and the Center that I just joined has openings and we work 4 days a week for 10 hours a day. No nights, weekends or holidays. You should be wise and start looking NOW just incase things go south and you are out of work or in a very bad perdicament. Best of luck to you, and if you would like info about the Center (Maryland) that I work at please send me a message.
  3. What is your role/job DURING a Cystoscopy, Vasectomy or other Urology related procedure?

    Nose piercings in the OR

I would not recommend it. I was recently on the hunt for a new position for some time now and one of the questions was in reference to jewlery and tattoos and that was for all of the surgi-centers I applied to. Luckily for me only my ears are pierced and I never wear earrings at work. Also when it comes down to professionalism facial piercings is not professional no matter where you apply to. Best of luck to you!

Why do you want to become an OR nurse?

I decided to be in the OR because I knew that it would be easy to find a position. As long as I am a nurse I am happy because I like helping people. I am actually moving at the end of the year from the ATL to Baltimore MD and I already accepted an offer at a Surgery center just outside of B-more. So now my commute has decreased also the surgi-center is an outpatient facility and I believe that I will like it because they average 10-14 procedures a day so I know that I will stay busy. Also it doesnt hurt that I no longer have to work Nights, Weekends or holidays. Plus the nurses only work 10 hour shifts, four days a week so that gives me a lot of time to spend with my Husband and step-kids.
  7. Hey OR Nurses! I just landed a position at a surgery center in Maryland. My family is from Atlanta GA and we are moving to Baltimore Maryland at the end of the year and as luck would have it I found a position right outside of B-more and I start in January 2013. I am so thankful as I am a newly wed and I just inherited two step children and I would like to spend more time with them and mainly my husband. I really lucked up too: - No Weekends - No Nights - No Holidays - 4 days a week with 10 hours per day and I can request overtime if needed. The HR told me that they have four openings and I am the first of the four. So if you are interested I can give you the name and info of HR to see if they are still taking resumes. Just let me know! Now that I am done celebrating! I actually do not have Urology experience but I do have OR experince and that is why they made me an offer. Can you give me an idea of what to expect? Again this is an outpatient center and they said that they average 10-14 procedures a day and they last 45 minutes or less each so you have to stay quick on your feet.
  8. That's just life! I use to be a High School teacher and there were clicks and some teachers thought they were better than others. Its sad because we try to teach the kids not to do this but in the break room the teachers are just as bad. Just make sure you do the right thing and for the right reasons. It is not always what you do but your motives behind it that makes all the difference. "From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" so whatever is in the heart will manifest it's self. That is why you find people who may not have much but people flock to them because they have a good heart. On the other hand you have people who have plenty and no one wants to be around them because of how ugly they are on the inside. Try to let your love for what you do out weight the ignorance that you sometimes have to put up with. Dont be a push over but also do not stoop to their level. People are masters at treating others like crap and as soon as you give them what they give you they go and tell and you find yourself in trouble. So dont get even with them just hold yourself to a higher standard and kill them with kindness.
