  1. Narcotic administration times

Good to know it's not weird. I can't say it's happened to me too much, maybe once or twice. Generally we have parameters with the pain scale so I just go by that.
  2. Are married women bullied less at work?

I keep using that word? Do you even know me? Have you even seen me in a thread? I'm sorry if you're trying to use "you" in a general sense. Make it clear. And I didn't say it was bullying per se. I was responding to OP who asked if marrieds are bulli...
  3. Are married women bullied less at work?

Maybe bullying in the sense of management asking you to work extra shifts...somehow if you're married and have kids your free time is worth more than mine because I'm single.
  4. Narcotic administration times

If there was an incident with missing narcotics. Although it's explainable it might look odd.
  5. Narcotic administration times

I wouldn't. I just wouldn't like how it would look in our med admin book. At home I will tell my family to do this if they want. But at work I won't.
  6. Relationship Between Unmarried Residents.

Good luck with this! I'm not sure I have advice but wow. If it's an issue of sundowning maybe distract them at HS? Separate activities? If she doesn't want him in there is she saying this to him? He might not listen to you but maybe he will listen to...
  7. Would you give it to them?

I will give my aides Advil, Tylenol, etc. but I just say "which one do you want and how many tabs?"
  8. CNA 'tudes

I'm a young nurse and fortunately most of the aides respect me. There is one who I know doesn't but she has a lot of other problems so I let it slide a little.
  9. Giving Report

Yeah LTC is way different. I will give a detailed report on new residents. "90 y.o. male admitted with CHF exacerbation, here for PT/OT. Hx of blah blah blah. Transfers with assist of 1 and walker. Independent bed mobility. Continent of bowel and bla...
  10. Guilt over saying no to overtime

Don't feel guilty!! I get calls all the time and never answer.
  11. What's With the "Poop"?

I would care plan it to toilet before dinner. That way if she asks, say "we just took him at 4:45." Also if she is a daily visitor maybe find something for her to do besides visiting her dad. Maybe she could do a craft with the residents or something...
  12. Do you know your patients?

You may never know everyone's list. But like the others said you will get hunches and form ideas based on meds, etc. A lot of my residents have a "primary dx." That is what I try to remember. Wait until you send someone out and the paramedics ask you...
  13. Moral of the story: Never give IM injections?

I agree with Esme. It's not abuse.
  14. sports bras?

I stopped wearing normal bras to work...it's a waste of a good bra to wear it at work. Sports bras for me!
  15. Things you tell newbies

Trust your gut. Cluster your care - saves you time later. Be professional.
  16. This is horrible: the doctors and staff won't do anything

Did you ask for an x ray? Sometimes you have to ask for what you want - just an FYI for the future! But yes state should be contacted if you've asked and doc won't give.
  17. iv antibiotics and maintaining line

Same tubing! Thank you for trying to help. Esme, I will try to decrease VTBI more next time! Thanks!
  18. iv antibiotics and maintaining line

Hello all! I work in LTC and often hang IV antibiotics. I've been having a problem lately which is letting the IV line run dry (or partially dry) after the dose is over. For example, we'll do the IV q 4 hours or q 8 hours and the tubing is supposed t...
  19. Where are all the nurses?

My work is severely lacking nurses too. But it's not the best facility lol!
  20. iv antibiotics and maintaining line

It's different pumps. This has happened to me with a few different patients.
  21. iv antibiotics and maintaining line

Muno, I guess I don't quite understand...when I prime the tubing with the antibiotic I don't waste any. I've never had to dump it in the sink or trash. I attach the tubing, slide the slide clamp closed and then prime the drip chamber. Then I unclamp ...
  22. iv antibiotics and maintaining line

The chamber is primed well. That is one thing I am good at - priming the tubing! I do usually program to give less than what is required - like if I'm supposed to run in 110 cc fluid, I'll program the machine to stop at 105 or 100, but it still runs ...
  23. Med passing question from a student

I work in LTC, so no that is not that standard. We have bubble packs, pop the pills from the main cart and hand them in one cup. If patients are AOX3, I'll try to explain their meds. Most don't care though.
  24. Sexism in a primarily female dominated field

Ditto on the single female. Because I don't have kids, don't attend school, not married, they assume you can work whenever. And god forbid when they ask you to stay late and you have no excuse...just not wanting to work is no excuse. But if you have ...
  25. Medication Adm in FL

We typically get an order "okay to cocktail meds" when dealing with g-tubes.
