  1. Avoiding patients hitting on you

If you want to avoid conflict, a simple "thanks but I'm in a relationship" should do the trick.
  2. Is it OK to say no to a nurse?

That's not right! I ask my aides to do things for me but if they have a logical response as to why they can't I understand! I would go to your manager and ask her this question but just in a "curious" way.
  3. What's a "difficult pt" to you?

Whiny and needy...has perfectly working hands and can use a call light but can't pull their covers up or reach over and get some water. I'm happy to help people if they need it but c'mon...
  4. Husband doesn't understand... advice?

Nobody really understands overnight shift unless they've done it.
  5. My First Patient Death

100% agree. You can hug the family and tell them you'll miss the patient but do not cry. This is coming from someone who can cry at the drop of a hat. You need to be the professional.
  6. Classify as a Med Error?

Technically it was a med error I think. But I'm guessing you're not the only one who made the "error." I hesitate to blame anyone but the person who dropped the ball on transcribing the order. You didn't know!
  7. Husband not supportive of me going to school

If you have a good job with good pay I wouldn't give it up for the unknown. Indulge your "nursing" instincts by volunteering at a nursing home or hospital or with a hospice company.
  8. Bad Answers to Behavioral Questions

I think it's fine to share the story but you need to have learned a lesson from it. That is what they want to hear - how you resolved it!
  9. NOC with kids home for summer break?

I went to the pool by myself when I was 10...easy to drop them off and pick them up later.
  10. How to chart to increase payment.

I'm not a MDS person but if you're trying to get payment increased because someone is nice and pushes an independent resident, it seems phony to me... You say you don't want to defraud anyone but then you say you deserve to be paid for it...
  11. When is your shift over

If your shift is over but you're still there, move to a private location. I wouldn't sit at the desk and let people bother me when I'm about to leave.
  12. So yea...this wound isn't getting any better...

^ I like those ideas! What about using skin prep to toughen the skin and then dust with nystatin? It makes the skin kinda sticky and tough. That worked well for one of our patients. Also maybe try not using a bag for a while? We would cover the stoma...
  13. Nurses selling at work?

I think it's fine if people ask but they shouldn't be pushy.
  14. Post fall root cause analysis report...

    That is so cute though!
  15. A nurse who doesn't breastfeed

I will not breastfeed my future children. My body, my decision.
  16. Why do people don't like it when we send resident out?

Every time I've sent a resident out, with the exception of one, they've been kept at least 2 nights at hospital. I trust my judgement. You did the right thing.
  17. Grammar Police

    Agree!
  18. Dumbest question ever...

I say it at work and I chart it lol
  19. Dumbest question ever...

    Nocturnal.
  20. Is this a common attendace policy?

    I would quit!
  21. Clinical drama-question about personal property

Bring your lunch in an old plastic shopping bag. Problem solved. And let's not get into a discussion about "how can you afford a bag like that" or "what's wrong with a purse from Walmart?" We like what we like.
  22. Forgetting to waste meds

If you carry a clipboard around have a a sticky note on it that says "waste!" Or something on your report sheet
  23. Doubles

    Won't do 'em.
  24. Are married women bullied less at work?

This is more what I meant. If my married with kids coworker tells our boss "oh I'm sorry I can't pick up Friday, I have Timmy's soccer game that night" it's understandable to them. If I say "oh sorry I just want the night off" or "I'm going to the ba...
  25. Are married women bullied less at work?

How is a person supposed to know its a quote from a movie? Thank you for explaining it but to be fair it does sound like that poster is trying to call me out specifically on using the word "bullying."
