  1. New grad - should I take this ER job?

As a new grad myself I would suggest 1) compare orientation programs. Who has a more organized and thorough orientation program? Where are you going to have the resources available to learn the most? 2) what unit do you want to work in as your "dream...
  2. Salary depends. Hermann new grads are about $25/hour base pay with the geographic differential, MD Anderson $27-28, I've heard St Luke's is $29, Ben Taub is $28.00, UTMB $27. Shift differentials range from $4.00-6.00/hour for nights depending on the ...
  3. Most of the residency positions have already been posted and filled for the may grads. October residency and January residency are available at many of the hospitals. If you call nurse recruitment they should be able to tell you when the applications...
  4. Texas Children's Hospital Summer 2013 Applicants

From former classmates, they are and have been filling positions. I would suggest contacting HR if you haven't heard anything and want an update. Good luck!
  5. Supplies a new grad ER Nurse should carry

Thanks everyone! I plan to get me the cardiology stethoscope after my first pay check! I appreciate all the input!
  6. HELP! I'm interviewing for ED position

Mention teamwork in your answers and be able to give examples of how you utilize teamwork in the workplace (clinicals, past job). Here are a few I was asked: 1) why ER? Why xxx hospital? 2) name a time when you used patient communication. Be able to ...
  7. I won't be too much help but I'm a recent new grad in a nurse residency program in a level 1 trauma center. I've just started but the new grads already am scheduled for ACLS (luckily I took it in NS), PALS, stroke care, and TNCC. I believe the right ...
  8. How much orientation time for a new grad?

I am just starting in the ER at a level 1 trauma facility. I am in a 1 year residency program and will be precepted for 6 months.
  9. I was also a second degree BSN and had worked in my career about 8 years before deciding I needed a change. For me, I think people are pushed to "go to school, get an education!" I know I was. So I did...and my degree was practically worthless. I nev...
  10. Certification prior to nursing school? Helps or No?

I thought the CNA course was really easy. I took a 3 week M-F course and it went by super fast. The material is easy especially if you've had A and P.
  11. Definitely all! Really know how the heart works and the flow of blood. It's important to know the function of every organ because that will help significantly in your med surge classes when you are learning disease processes. Most people Found CV, en...
  12. So who do nurses marry or have as civil partners???

Another police officer's wife here! In my area you petty much work as a nurse, a police officer, or in the chemical plants though! Several of my husbands co-workers are nurses too :-)
  13. Certification prior to nursing school? Helps or No?

I was a CNA for about a year before nursing school. I got a job as a hospital "nurse tech." The experience was priceless. Like the above poster said you learn how to approach patients and you are not scared like your other classmates. You also learn ...
  14. Hurst review q tests

Does anyone know what is considered to be a "good" score on hurst review q practice tests? My Nclex is rapidly approaching and I have taken a few of the q test but want to see if I'm doing okay ok them.
  15. Texas BON and ATT

I got mine a week after graduation.
  16. Whats best, nscbn or hurst review??

Hurst is amazing and I don't think you can go wrong with it! Majority of my nursing friends, including myself, have recently taken Nclex after doing hurst and all passed with 75 questions!
  17. How long did you study before taking NCLEX?

I have to disagree with the poster who said there is nothing on the NCLEX you haven't seen or heard of. I had tons of procedures and meds I had never heard of before the NCLEX. I know my pharm extremely well and even made a 100% on the ATI pharm exit...
  18. Failed in Hurst Review

I took mine this May! I think it's a good sign to get 104 on your first q review! Have you finished all the hurst review? I did my first q test as a baseline before I covered any material then my second and third after day 2 and 3. The last 3 I saved...
  19. How long did you study before taking NCLEX?

You have to do what is best for you. How do you like to study? Personally, I like to do it in a short amount of time and do the test. I work better that way. I have nine days with practically every awake hour consumed with Hurst review and the PDA bo...
  20. Taking NCLEX too soon?

I studied hardcore for 9 days for Nclex. I did hurst and PDA book daily. I think you are good as long as you are dedicated to the material in the short amount of time. I wouldn't have done it any other way. I am so glad it's over and I'm a RN!
  21. NCLEX study guides

I used Saunders the entire time through nursing school. I used it more so than my nursing books. It's a great way to cut down all of the BS that is in your nursing books. Then you can quiz yourself on the content tests at the end of the chapters. Man...
  22. 48 hour results

I will have taken (or begun) my Nclex 48 hours ago tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if the results can be accessed a tad earlier than 48 hours....especially because it is on a Saturday? I did the PV pop up and checked my GN status on the BON and go...
  23. 48 hour results

I think you're golden if you've used hurst! It's what helped me be successful. Make sure you know the info in the boxes that are their strategies. I used those quite a bit on my Nclex! It is difficult....it's a different kind of difficult than ati or...
  24. Hurst review q tests
