  1. True? --> "RN's Can Work 3Days/Wk And Make A Good Salary!"

    Yeah, that too....
  2. Stomach distention related to NGT feeding?

I'm guessing that these pts are being bolused fed, and aren't on continuous tube feeding? We feed pts in their duodenum, and not via NGT. Is this LTC? Are you checking residuals? If they have residuals (for us, it's greater than 2 hrs of feeds) the...
  3. True? --> "RN's Can Work 3Days/Wk And Make A Good Salary!"

Yep. I wanted to be a cardiacRN. hehe. Did the CVICU clinicals and despised cardiac! DESPISED. Blah. And I was not new to the field..I had worked for years as a tech in a CVICU. I hated what the actual work of the RN was. Bleah. So, OP, wait until yo...
  4. WHY are some PCT's so bitter towards new RN's???

They are insecure. Plain and simple. They don't want newbies to come and boss them around, or feel that their roles are minimized or not important.
  5. How do all the experienced ICU nurses feel about....

Oh, but they learn quickly don't they?
  6. How do all the experienced ICU nurses feel about....

I think the reality check needs to come to you. And I'm not being rude when I say that. If you fear any MD who takes advice from novice ICU nurses, then you have a LOT of MDs to fear. You saying this tells me that you not only do not work in an IC...
  7. Sure signs your pt. is sick

Gotta agree. Levo is great! I think that phrase is just old school. I never hear anyone say it anymore. Levo is first line drug of choice in sepsis and I can mix it in under 2 minutes. For me in the ICU, it's the sudden change in mentation. The norma...
  8. MONA

I don't have my old NS books for reference. I can just tell you what we do in real life. Many, many times pts with CP have NOT received MS. That's because the NTG worked. So, in order for us, in the ICU (the ASA has already been given) O2 NTG Then MS...
  9. What's up with this? Interview denied....

Wow! My guess is that they want someone with more recent bedside experience? I can't believe they didn't even interview you to see what you're all about!
  10. $9000 is more than I spent on my RN. That being said, my PCT training was free. No, wait. That's not entirely true. I was paid while completing the training. I was trained at the hopsital, paid while I did it, and had my choice of floors on which t...
  11. What do you do with a problem supervisor?

Can you say, crazy? If it were me, I'd leave little voodoo dolls scattered around the unit. But, I'm a bit of a trouble maker. Hehe. So, in this case, I'd look for work elsewhere. This lady sounds like a wacko!
  12. Support for life support?

Load me up with morphine and pull the plug. If I'm brain dead, then donate my organs. If I'm not brain dead, but just gonna be a brain dysfunctional veggie, then MS, pull the plug, and do DCD.
  13. Does god make mistakes?

That's because I'm not clear. My previous post was't me being snotty. What if I believe both or none? I can't really decide. That's why I'm agnostic, and not atheist...
  14. Does god make mistakes?

What does it matter what I believe? Is it going to change anything? Why do I HAVE to believe one way or another? What if I believe neither options? What if I believe both? Doesnt' matter. This world speaks for itself.
  15. Does god make mistakes?

I read the thread. I know what it's talking about. If God didn't allow abuse of children, then we wouldn't need CPS. Why allow abuse so that we can have a govt agency to protect children? Why not just protect children? Why not? Besides, CPS barely pr...
  16. Does god make mistakes?

Well, I was obviously responding to something else, not to someone who experienced 6 miscarriages. So what's right, good, or bad? Why do I have to offer an alternative to god? Why is that my job? I'm merely saying, how on earth is a perfect god some...
  17. Does god make mistakes?

No, God did not remove him from that environment. He didn't remove his suffering. He wasn't merciful. The poster said he is in his 30's now. So, that's 30 years of misery and suffering. And all so someone could learn something?
  18. No way would I stay for 40K. Or 60K. In fact, I'm not in favor of the govt capping my salary-at all!
  19. Charge Nurse Training Course

Well then, how about basic management training. Things like, how to give verbal warnings appropriately without putting the hospital at risk, or how to de-escalate situations between co-workers. It would be nice if in this course, the manager stood u...
  20. Does god make mistakes?

If God were perfect, then why allow a woman with 8 babies to have more? Why allow the babies to suffer? Why allow people to be so vain that it causes pollution and suffering. Why make us the way we are?
  21. IV medication filtering

We absolutely DO NOT filter lipids. They are a separate infusion and not included with the TPN and they go below the filter. I've never seen lipids filtered!
  22. Charge Nurse Training Course

Formal training? Lol. I came to work one day and was told I was in charge. That was my training.
  23. Blood pressure meds..without parameters???

Here's the deal....The pts BP is 'low' becaue the meds are WORKING. That's the point! And, I don't find an SBP of 95 to be all that shocking. And yes, you can't just hold a med. You have to get an order, otherwise you are practicing medicine without ...
  24. IV medication filtering

I didn't say insulin was the cause of filtering TPN. TPN is filtered whether it has insulin or not. The OP says that insulin should NEVER be filtered. I'm saying, it is filtered all the time when it's included in TPN. I just would like to know why i...
  25. IV medication filtering

I don't put a filter on insulin gtts, but insulin is added to our TPN, which does require a filter. So, I'm curious as the the insuln that you mention never using a filter... The lipids, however, should not be filtered.
