as a child, being a nurse was never something i considered. my grandad once suggested it, i said, " i don't like seeing MY blood much less someone else's." i studied classical music. one year i moved to Louisville,KY where the music business was sluggish. i found a day job in an Orthopedic Surgeons office, it was "a one girl office/clinic" where the doc did my OJT. supply par and ordering, taking x-rays, schedule appointments and surgery times, file, transcription of office visit dictation, prepparing room between each patient, assist in minor office procedures, banking, i saw two of our polio patients come to walk without crutches post surgery. one of our degenerative arthritis pts who was in severe pain came to me and said that if i would go to the operating room with him that he would let doctor replace his hip. i was so touched by the trust this patient placed with me that i went to the surgery, scrubbed, listened, watched and came away overjoyed but it didn't end there, the patient became pain free easily walking on his own two feet. hook, line and sinker - i wanted to be near the healing processes, i grasped that ones blood is a beautiful life giving miracle and that patients were looking for someone to trust. it took 5 years planing before entering nursing school in 1978.
