Just reading over the requirements for certification. I have been working in addiction services for 8 months now. How would an NP obtain supervised contact hours? Do practice hours with a collaborating count for this? Thank You

I would be upfront and honest about it. Depending on circumstances it may or may not be a factor. Better to be upfront about it and chance it, than to go through the process (which can be very long) only to find out they deny you for not disclosing.

I work for the VA in a county with an Mental Health Catchment area score of 18, any chance I would qualify for any kind of reward?

I have seen this before on other contracts. In my experience 90 days notice seems to be the new normal on most NP contracts. I would insist that they remove the clause and if not then look somewhere else. If you feel this is your dream job and want to work there despite this monetary clause, ask that they add that it only applies if you leave on your own fruition. ie. if they determine you are to be let go, the clause is null and void. OR.... if you want to work for the VA... there are no contracts! Good Luck!

I am an NP for the Dept. of VA. As long as you have a valid NP license in any state, you are good to go. I do caution you however to obtain licensure in whatever state you go to work in as you will have to follow your state practice as well as federal mandates. ie. running Rx reports if your state requires it. Good luck, it is a great place to work!

You will look back on this one day and realize that days like this happen to everyone. One bit of advice I might offer from my time as a new nurse... set your fluids to less than what will be infused so that they alarm as "complete" despite having 100ml left to infuse. Especially your maintenance fluids. This sounds silly but it works better than a cell phone alarm. Especially if your patient is alert or has family in the room. They will give you the "her iv pump is beeping" call and that will cue you to either get a new bag of fluid ready or call pharmacy for a new bag. Might help alleviate running out while waiting for the replacement bag to be hung. Keep your head up and do NOT ever be afraid to ask your peers for help. We are all in it together.

I start next week as a Nurse Practitioner in Ohio. I am starting as an N3S2 which I was very happy with. I have 4 years RN experience and 2 years as NP. I am an Army Veteran. I was in the National Guard for 6 years (14 months of that as title 10 in Iraq), any idea if this helps with seniority for vacation etc. Also am I assuming correctly that only my title 10 time goes toward retirement, etc.?

I have quite a bit of autonomy where I am now so I hope that will push through to my practice in the future. I am very quick to ask about things I am not sure about when presented with a new problem.

I am wanting to get your input on the difference between undergrad nursing programs and Advance Practice Nursing programs. For those of you already in a program, what is the biggest difference that you have seen? What are clinicals like? Input would be appreciated.

I am an Army Veteran and an RN but I am one of the few in my workplace.

I found it to be relatively easy in regard to applying to Grad School. I did not have to take the GRE due to my GPA being above the 3.2 cutoff. If you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer them.
