    Hospice Admissions

Hello, my name is Jen. I have recently taken a hospice travel position as an admit nurse. I am not new to hospice, just the admissions process. I have learned a lot in these past few weeks (slightly overwhelming). If anyone here in this forum has had admissions experience or is currently working as an admit nurse I would appreciate any feedback and advice. Thank you. Jen:welcome:

    Anyone's 1st job in hospice?

I think it would be ok for you to start out with hospice as a new graduate. It is true though that you really should get general nursing experiences before that though. I have only been a nurse for 4 years and the first 2.5 years I was on med surg. I am now a hospice travel nurse. The experiences I gathered from med surg have helped me become more secure in my assessment skills. I love hospice!!! I am glad you do as well. It is truly rewarding! Pray about it and work hard! Maybe you could do hospice prn and med surg for a while and then go straight into hospice. Just an idea! Good luck to you!!! Jen

:) Good evening to all my fellow nurses out there. I was talking the other day with a friend of mine who works in the local hospitals Labor and Delivery department. She was discussing all the things that "they" do and how hard it was. Well, see I work in another hospital on the medical surgical unit. I think that work is rather hard. It seemed like we were competing with each other in our coversation as to whos work was harder or something. How rediculous. Anyway, my question to you.....for people who have been around different specialties in nursing.....................where have you found the work to be the most difficult? I have always heard med-surg, but I would like to know some peoples opionions out there in cyberspace. Thanks, incognito

    new nurse orientation

rachel h, hello I too am a new graduate. I officially started to the floor about 3 weeks ago or so. I am supposed to have had 1 preceptor. Guess what? I am have a total of 5 preceptors and counting. I have had as many as 9 patients (with the preceptor of course). It is crazy. I don't know. All I know is that I feel your pain if you get my drift. Yes, the overwhelming part got me too. Not to be negative, but to top that there are some nurses around my age (late 20's to early 30's) that talk bad about people (including myself) and do not make it easier as a newbie. Makes you wonder. I ignore that stuff to the best of my ability. Let me know how your progress is and I will let you know mine. Thanks! Hang In There, Jen
