Nurses with criminal background
To answer my own question and other peoples questions who are down in the dumps and can't find sleep because of their own background situation, YES IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET LICENSED AND GET A JOB. I was convicted of misdemeanor for battery. I was falsely accused of hitting another person and because I had no witness, I was set for book and release, took advice from the public defendor who could care less about my situation - promised me it would be GONE from my record after my probation was over if I pleaded no contest - 4 years later, I would have to live with it knowing that it will always be on my record forever. Trying to explain my situation to the board, finally being able to take the NCLEX, then waiting months to finally get my license was so hard, as if nursing school wasn't a feat enough itself. Yes it is hard, yes it will be difficult, but don't give up. If you can, try to get it expunged, because that will help with the job search. I was offered a job at a subacute care facility and held my breath for 2 weeks while they checked my background. I didn't disclose it on the application because in the state of California, you don't have to, but I was still afraid that they would see it. Finally yesterday, I got a call from DSD and they finalized the job offer. I start next week. Final advice, pray, pray, PRAY! Although it will take longer than your fellow classmates who are able to get licensed and perhaps find a job faster than you do not give in, don't lose hope. God will never abandon us. And also remember, IF HE PUT YOU TO IT, HE'LL PULL YOU THROUGH IT. Okay so I think I replied to nother one of your posts but just incase I am doing it again. I was a dumb teen who got introuble for a couple of things. So I delt with the BRN and recently tested. I have my cases expunged and a job offer. My lawyer says that "by law" I do not have to report my cases. He also said that with the background searches available I should devulge my past "just incase". I DONT want to!!! I am a married mother who changed my life!!! It is so embarressing!!! So it looks like it worked out for you... CONGRATS!!! I live in Ca where do you live??? What do you suggest I do... tell or keep it quiet? I am concerned because one involves iunder the influence oh and recieving stolen property. Both look horriable!!! PLEASE HELP.

Do facilities care about convictions or arrests as well?
I am a new grad who is lucky enough to have a job offer yet regreatfully has an expunged record. I already interviewed (because I got lucky)yet I have not filled out the job application yet. I am going to have to fill it out and I am afraid, I dont want to open up a can of worms if I dont have to. Especially because one case involved "under the influence of a controlled substance":( It was over 10 years ago when I was dumb kid(19). McBunny Did they find it on your record????? I was also told that I leagally do not have to disclose it yet that it may show??? I want to be honest because I dont want to lose the job opp. I also want this past of mine to be put to rest and dont see them hireing me with a record in this economy with so many other applicants without records. ADVICE PLEASE

NURSES w/ an EXPLUNGED criminal record getting jobs?
I am a new grad and I m going to strt looking for jobs. I have some convictions that occured 10 years ago. I hve had them expunged, although one does involve under the influence and one was recieving stolen property. These look bd but the BRN let me take the boards. I obviously made stupid mistakes as a teen and proved my rehbilitation. Now I have these expunged cases and dont know what to do. Do I say that I hve been convicted on job pps or not? One application says not to devulge past convictions/arrests if they were expunged yet the next question asks, "If you re going to be working with drugs have you ever been convicted of drug charge?". I dont want to lie, then again if I m going to tell why did I get it expunged. I dont want to open up can of worms if I dont have to!!! Especially in a time where it is hard to find jobs!!! Please help!!! Hs anyone had an expunged record and told future employers? Has anyone not told and had the employer find out?

Any success stories obtaining license w/prior felony drug convictions in CA
This is the boat I was in... I didnt know where to go I would call those facilities and ask where you could get them (i.e. records of id bureau). They have to be affiliated with one. The Sheriffs is in Norwalk and the LAPD is in LA. Yes our stories are similar!!! Ill keep you posted.

Carrie C I told them everything as I could remember it. I did a background check on myself and covered those bases. I am in Ca. It all just looks soooo bad, and the BRN is there for the public not so much us. I dont know, Im in the review process now so Im waiting for their response as to pass or deny:( MsRNblu803 May I ask what your convictions were for? Just for some piece of mind to see if they were similar. Im totally desperate right now!!!

Any success stories obtaining license w/prior felony drug convictions in CA
Well here is some advice. Get everything together now and send in your application asap. Start getting letters of recommendation, court records, community service, letters from priest, etc... Try and get them expunged!!! Also the BRN will want copies of your arrest records which cant be released to you. So go to the Records of Identification Bureau (look them up online) to get a letter stating they cant release it to you (silly I know). It took up 2 weeks time just because of this process even I think they know they cant be released to us. Send this letter in with your application. They will request the records which will take a few weeks and then review it. Try and apply to the new grad programs.. I wish someone had told me about the records of ID Bureau. I missed an opportunity for my dream job!!! This is small potatoes when you consider not getting your license.I am sooooo sick to my stomach right now!!!! Ill keep you posted. I hope I am a success story!!!

May I ask what the convictions were for? I got in trouble for a few things:( One involved misdermeaner under influence of narcotics. There was felony recieving stolen property which I think was reduced to a misdermeaner, DUI, and one other thing that got dismissed. All happening over 10 years ago and all expunged. I was a stupid kid making stupid mistakes. I have a family now and love nursing!!!!!!!! This is so sad, embarresing, and scary!!!! We think we know it all when we are kids and I never thought about my future. Uuuugh.

HAS ANYONE BEEN APPROVED OR DENiED W/ RECORD
May I ask what you were convicted of? I just applied... I have 4 convictions from over 10 years ago. An under the influence, DUI, driving on a suspended license, and felony recieving stolen property, hit and run that was dismissed (they hit me and I ran two houses down to get my sister, came back and police were there already). I got all my cases expunged and the felony was dropped to a misdermeaner. I am so worried. I have not been in trouble since, Im involved in church, married with kids.

I have almost the exact story! I have an under the influence of narcotics, DUI, felony recieving stolen property, a hit and run that was dismissed, and 2 driving on suspended license. All happening over 10 years ago when I was a dumb young adult/teen. I was a steller student, I am very active in church, I am now married with kids. I have not gotten in trouble since and had the cases expunged. I am waiting approval from the boards and I an so anxious after all my hard work. SO did you get a reply from BRN? If so how did it go??? I need some kind of idea of what may happen. The BRN does not give much info.
