  1. When to Apply to Nursing School..?

Hi all...just curious if any of you have applied for fall admission to nursing school and completed/will complete your final prereq(s) during the preceding summer session? As of now I have 3 prereqs left--A&P 1, A&P 2, and microbio. I am cur...
  2. Prereqs - What order?

I agree with taking English first. There is a good chance you will do a fair amount of writing in sociology and even in speech. If you take 2 classes, I also agree that math would be good with English. Good luck!
  3. Trying not to be a whiner.... but

We also only have 2 lab practicals....the first one covers everything from the first half of the semester, the second one covers everything from the second half of the semester. It's rough. That's just the way it is. I wouldn't write a letter over it...
  4. can i still pass?

Figure out how many points you need to get a C and then subtract how many points you have earned so far. Then you will know the number of points you need to earn on the remainder of your exams in order to pass the class.
  5. Microbio vs A&P - which to take first?

My school requires one year of life science courses before taking microbio, so almost everyone takes A&P first since most don't have their year of life science done until after those classes. Not sure if or how much of a difference it makes takin...
  6. Wanting to start the Adn Nursing program at Kent, and have a ?

Information on application process: http://www.kent.edu/nursing/programs/bachelors/application-process.cfm From the above website: In order to apply to the Nursing Sequence, students must have minimum 2.75 GPA in the prerequisite sciences (see below)...
  7. I need help deciding if I should relocate

He is sabotaging you because he wants to keep control over you. I am guessing that every time you talk about getting a job or a degree, he envisions his control slipping away. If you have a way out, take it. For your sake, and your child's. I know it...
  8. Is it possible to work FT and do a BSN program FT?

I am not in nursing school yet, but I talked to the nursing advisor at the school I will be applying at (same school I am doing prereqs at)...she highly discouraged me from working since most students in the past who have worked were not successful. ...
  9. I think if nursing is what you really want to do, you will find a way to make it through. Only you can know if an accelerated program is a good option for you. Also, ignore the IQ test. They are not extremely reliable, especially as a predictor for f...
  10. Hey everyone! New here!

Hi Missy! I can somewhat relate...I am 27 with 2 young kids...and I also got a GED...I went on to get a B.A., but I am continuing on to do nursing! I have wanted to get into nursing for the past 7 years, just didn't have the confidence in myself to d...
  11. BA Holder: Repeating GeneralEd Classes

There are definitely schools that will accept general education classes older than 7 years. The schools around here seem mostly concerned with lab sciences being recent (within 5-7 years depending on the school)...but classes like English, psych, soc...
  12. Any mamas with a 2-3 yr old and started pre-req's here?

I have a daughter turning 3 in a couple months and daughter turning 7 in a few months. I just finished my B.A. in May and took about 5 classes a semester...but my major was fairly "easy" (sociology with psych minor). The only nursing prereqs I have l...
  13. Fall back plan?

I don't have a back-up plan. I guess if I don't get in the first time around, I will hopefully be able to work in a medical-related field until I do get in somewhere. Since I tend to second guess myself a lot, in order for me to get through all this,...
  14. Getting A Head Start - Good Idea?

I think it is a great idea to start studying the material now, and then you can review it again when the class starts. The repetition will definitely help the information to stick, and studying over a longer period of time is definitely more helpful ...
  15. how long does it take to finish the prerequisites?

My school has 11 prerequisite classes you need before applying to the ABSN program. My guess is that most people already have at least 1/3 of those classes done from their first degree. I had 4 classes I still needed--nutrition, A&P 1 and 2, and ...
  16. What are you taking this semester?

I'm only taking A&P I this semester...it is one of the last 3 prereqs I need in order to apply to the 2nd degree accelerated BSN program. After this I will just need A&P II and microbio. Can't wait!
  17. I need to buy some extra things for A&P, but for most classes in the past, my supply list was usually pretty simple: pens/pencils, folders, notebook(s), calculator. I prefer one huge notebook (5-subject) to use in multiple classes (or sometimes 2...
  18. I have a B.A. degree and I was told that I could receive financial aid for up to 90 credit hours towards another degree. However, the person I talked to made it sound like the other degree had to be a B.S. (and obviously nursing is) since I already h...
  19. debating whether or not to start the nursing school process

If you already have a bachelor's degree, you might be able to do a 2nd degree accelerated BSN program. The one (maybe two?) I plan on applying for are only 18 months long. That is probably about the same amount of time it would take to get an ADN. Ho...
  20. I am currently enrolled in A&P I and microbio for the fall. After talking to the nursing advisor and one of the biology advisors, I will probably hold off on microbio. The bio advisor did say that A&P II + microbio would be better, since you ...
  21. gpa to get into nursing school?

I'm still doing prereqs, but my school requires you to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for your first degree, to be considered for the 2nd degree accelerated BSN program. Not sure what the average GPA is for students actually admitted, though.
  22. Psychological statistics vs. Statistics

Like others said, psych statistics will focus on statistics relating to the field of psychology. The difficulty of psych stats vs. general stats probably depends on the school/professor/class level. I took a basic stats class (gen. ed. requirement) ...
