  1. pet peeves when nursing students arrive

I completely agree with you. The Ipod, or any other source, should never be a crutch. I learn from my Ipod. If I look up a drug once, or a procedure once, I will remember it the next time a patient asks me about it or I need to know something. But as...
  2. pet peeves when nursing students arrive

I understand not relying on the internet for information. I would never give my patients information from the good ole internet. My Ipod has things like Davis Drug Guide, Tabors Medical Dictionary, Outcomes in Clinical Medicine, RN Notes and TONS of ...
  3. pet peeves when nursing students arrive

A passerby also cannot tell if someone on a computer is checking their email or doing unwork related things. I understand society frowns upon the use of cell phones at work. Med students use handheld electronic devices all the time and society can "h...
  4. pet peeves when nursing students arrive

It is not a phone. It is an Ipod Touch. No phone/camera capabilities. No different than an upgraded Palm Pilot (which our school used to use). Whats the difference between this and a computer?
  5. pet peeves when nursing students arrive

"Oh, and for the love of all that is holy, keep your Iphones in your handbag. I don't care if you are doing research on it, it looks wrong, there are computers on the unit and believe it or not actual reference books." I have to disagree with thi...
  6. Do you try to stay up all night and sleep during the day until 4pm, or do you sleep normally and just take a cat nap from about 2-5 in the afternoon? I work my first night shift Monday night and I'm not sure how to sleep tonight to prepare for it.
  7. Medical Equipment ???'s

I agree about the Prestige Stethoscope. I have the Prestige Lite which is about the cheapest one you can buy at a scrub store (about $28 bucks). BUT...I can hear 10x better out of it than a Littman for some reason. Not sure if it is because of the wa...
  8. NCLEX 4000 Question

I would have picked #4 as well. We aren't supposed to teach about risks and stuff. Terrible question...
  9. nclex question

I was always taught that after abc's, an EYE injury is always most important because it can lead to blindness. I would definitely go with eye injury for that reason. Facial Laceration sounds so non specific. It didn't say mouth or neck. I'd like to k...
  10. Thoughts from a Kaplan user&NCLEX-RN passer...

This is inspiring. I am not using Kaplan except for their strategies book. I don't know how you do 6 hrs a day though. Today I was at about 3 and my brain couldn't take it anymore. Most days I'm around an hour and a half to 2 hours. I graduated 1st i...
  11. What's wrong with kids today? (and I'm not even that old)

I have no real desire to bring a child into this world because of the quality of kids/parents and society nowadays. It scares me half to death thinking about trying to raise a child with the correct values. I know most of it is the parent's fault, bu...
  12. Odd question.... What is overstudying for the NCLEX and why would it be bad? Also, how do you know if you are overstudying?
  13. I hate SATA questions!

Ohhh I see. Thanks for letting me know.
  14. I hate SATA questions!

Is it the Q&A book by Lippincott? That is the one I am studying now.
  15. I hate SATA questions!

OMG me too! I'm so freaked out about them that I'm getting the Saundars Alternate Item for NCLEX book! I have heard really great things about it. I already bought it, it is on its way to my house! I miss like 80% of them in my practice tests I do we...
  16. Nclex-Rn exam in 2 weeks

Not sure how fast that is updated depending on your state. Yes, your temporary practice permit will be revoked, but I don't think that's until your official results come in. The best trick to use is to go to the Pearson Vue website and try to registe...
  17. Nclex-Rn exam in 2 weeks

Thanks! I'm using Lippincott's Q&A, Saundars Comprehensive, and going to be buying Lacharity and Strategies for Alternate Item Formats by Saundars. I am thinking about Kaplan Strategies because I've heard such great things about it. I am terrib...
  18. Nclex-Rn exam in 2 weeks

Good luck!! I feel your anxiety. I will be taking the NCLEX next month...waiting for my ATT right now. What sources have you been studying on your own?
  19. What is wrong with people ?

This guy has no clue what he is talking about IMO. Don't mention aspects of your personal life. In my opinion, do not even let the employer know you are married, and especially don't mention kids, whether you have them or not. That is none of their b...
  20. Ive just about had it. Rant, and I never rant.

I agree...there's no better person to tweak programs and forms than one who #1. Is a bedside nurse #2. Has computer experience and #3. Is FED UP WITH THE CURRENT SYSTEM. Nursing informatics is using a nurse, who knows the system and the way things wo...
  21. Ive just about had it. Rant, and I never rant.

My suggestion for you is to research and possibly find a job in nursing informatics. You have a computer background plus a nursing background. We need more people like you that recognize a problem and have the means and the brains to fix it.
  22. Hypothetical Question...

Say you are on a flight. The flight attendant calls for medical personnel. You are the only nurse on the plane and there is no doctor. There is a man who is having 10/10 chest pain radiating to his L arm. You happen to have 325 mg ASA with you; you g...
  23. Hypothetical Question...

Would it still be ok to give the Aspirin since it is OTC? What if a passenger was having an anaphalactic reaction and his/her airway was shutting and someone happened to have an Epi Pen? Would this be the same situation as the Nitro?
  24. RN but haven't taken the boards?!

I have a very unique name, and I was checking the BON's website the other day to see if my Temporary Practice Permit number was posted and I found there was an RN with my EXACT NAME AND MIDDLE INITIAL an hour and a half from me....it really freaked m...
  25. Positive TB test?

I had a reaction to a TB test a couple years ago when I first started nursing school. It was a 7 mm raised area. I immediately got a chest Xray, which was negative. The doctor ruled that since I had never been out of the country, never really been in...
