  1. So disgusted

I now do my hospice job per diem. I saw some patients this week and most aren't new to me. So I go to see one I've seen before, who is very peacefully slipping away. That's our goal, right? Sleeping pretty much all the time, maybe eating dinner a...
  2. I believe the most important skill you can ever have as a nurse is your assessment skills. I also don't believe you lose skills like inserting a foley or changing a dressing. They made need some sharpening , but you don't lose them. Go where you are...
  3. Does your SO understand job stress?

No offense, but how do you even deal with someone who has this mentality?!?
  4. Does your SO understand job stress?

Mine didn't at all. We are divorced now. Not because of that but I do actually think it contributed
  5. I read and relate to posts and topics regarding nurses being overworked, not taking breaks, crying, feeling like they want to run from the hospital beer to come back again. Feel like they are giving subpar care because that's all we humanly are able...

    Lyrica?
  7. What if the federal government read allnurses?

Really hate the auto correct on my I phone. No matter how many times I change it, it switches back. And there is a delay on my phone. Sorry about that.
  8. A patient expired! Cannot figure it out why!

    PE most likely
  9. Pay for visit prorate?

I'm per diet in my home health/ hospice agency . I went from full time to per diem and did my required weekend this weekend. The requirement is 3 RV and 1 SOC each day. I get not so good rates. They gave me some pretty bad pt's this weekend, one a...

  11. Pay for visit prorate?

Well, it turns out my company actually can do it. I asked hr. she told me to bring it up to my supervisor she can approve it. Well, my supervisor is a witch and instead of maybe thanking me for busting my butt this weekend, she actually called to d...
  12. Sepsis as Hospice Diagnosis

I'm pretty sure it cannot be, but heart failure or multi organ system failure secondary to sepsis can be .
  13. wound Vacs

The wound vacs stay on. In the home setting there are portable smaller version that even have a crarrying case for when a patient needs to leave the house.
  14. Harassment by pt or families?

Does your company provide escorts? I would take your biggest, baddest burly escort probably would keep his mouth shut and you would feel safer. Definitely buddy up somehow, but if you really aren't comfortable, I would refuse the visit. Shame on yo...
  15. wound Vacs

I do inservice for smith &nephews negative pressure wound therapy ( I actually like it a lot more than KCI's wound vac) and prior to taking on this venture I saw them as intimidating. Turns out they really aren't. Your cutting foam to fit the w...

  17. And then the MD said.....

I have 2 stories. One as told by another nurse about a doctor everyone loved and knew. He was old, but not a grumpy old. A sweetheart who brought us pastries. He would round at 5am. One time a nurse called a doctor about abnormal lab values and ...
  18. Desperate for help with Gastroparesis pain mgmt

Just out of curiosity...... When you say the wife decided against the PCA...... Is this patient able to speak for himself?
  19. Ethical Question About Pacemaker

Extubation isn't like smothering a patient with a pillow if you do it right. If you have the patient on a nice dose for an hour on a morphine drip, it could be pretty peaceful.
  20. Desperate for help with Gastroparesis pain mgmt

Got to love autocorrect. Morphine supp. Doh.
  21. Desperate for help with Gastroparesis pain mgmt

  22. Can a nurse refuse to participate in a code?

They can call 911. They can go to the hospital. But it states we as hospice nurses do not perform CPR. It's there.
  23. Can a nurse refuse to participate in a code?

I don't know if hospice is inpatient or out patient, but it is in our consent forms for home hospice that we do not perform CPR. So if their was an 11 th hour decision change and the nurse is in that home we are not obligated to do CPR.
  24. The "Q" Word and Other Mysteries

Oooh, I have one! We are offerred to use our PTO when the census is low. The few times I said " no thank you" due to not having enough hours or already have accommodations made to work ( child are and the such). The poo poo hit the fan. I worked in ...
