  1. SICU RN, I just turned in my applications

    Wow! How cool! Congrats.
  2. SICU RN, I just turned in my applications

It adds a lot that you have done well in your most recent science classes. Prepare for the interview as in prepare to answer the obvious questions you know they're going to ask. You should definitely know what you're going to say for things like why ...
  3. Working while in CRNA school...

My school allows you to work, but it highly discourages it. Certainly you can't work full time. Here's a good example; one person in my class kept his job in the ICU per diem which only required 1 shift every 3 weeks. After the first 2 months or so, ...
  4. SICU RN, I just turned in my applications

What were your grades in Orgo/bio chem? Honestly, but with love, your GRE, GPA, and experience are all quite average. Nothing about this profile stands out very much. It is good that you have your CCRN and that you've taken some recent science classe...
  5. Required to keep CCRN when accepted into school?

No you don't need to keep it up.
  6. How are you supposed to survive while going to CRNA school?

Honestly, the money is there. If it wasn't, people wouldn't be going to school. Government loans have been more than enough for me so far, and should be for the entirety of my program. Focus on paying down debt and saving. I had 10K debt and 20K save...
  7. Admitted! Now how do I pay for it?

Oh, I've also had the thought that if I run out of money near the end of the program, I'll get one or two no-interest credit cards that they're always spamming me with and run a couple bills up on those. They generally offer 18mo. no interest cards t...
  8. Admitted! Now how do I pay for it?

Generally most people can get by with just the loans from the government - especially those in your situation (single, no kids). Turns out you spend waaaaaay less when in anesthesia school because you just don't have any time to go out and spend mone...
  9. I need advice! DNP-A or MSN?

I went to a MS-A program rather than a DNP program because I really have no interest in the things that the DNP offers. I just want to be a great clinical practitioner. Plus I figure I can always go back if I want to/need to someday. I'd go to whiche...
  10. What can I do this year to improve my chances?

Do well on the GRE - time yourself when you practice. Also 4.0 your statistics. Otherwise you look very competitive. Prepare your typical interview questions because you should get one.
  11. Advice to Improve

You should get interviews at more than half of the schools you apply to. Then you gotta nail the interview. If you'd like something to improve, I'd retake the Biochem and get a 4.0. That's the only thing I'd suggest.
  12. One semester left and I'm scared I'll fail!!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippia...
  13. Should I pursue CRNA or Med School? (Help)

Lets not focus on the likely 5 or more years of residency? ...lol...
  14. Torn - CRNA or not?

    Yeah that sounds more reasonable.
  15. Torn - CRNA or not?

You spent 110K in one year? Do you have a family that you're supporting? And how much is your tuition? That seems like a ton. But my tuition is about 20k/year and I'm single...
  16. Not enough ICU experience?

    Apply
  17. Tips on acceptance to UT Houston

You're doing all the right things. Just continue to follow the advice that blankets the internet. Get a job in a SICU or CTICU at a level 1 trauma center, learn all you can, do great on the GRE, get CCRN if able, shadow a few times, nail the intervie...
  18. Experienced nurse, but new to trauma ICU

It's not easy to find a job. It might take a couple months even. Stick with it and don't get discouraged!
  19. I recently went to a job interview and one of the first questions I was asked is, "When was the last time you wow'ed a patient?" Up until this point I thought the interview was going pretty well. I had worn my nicest suit, shaken my interviewers hand...
  20. fatigue and burn out

It sounds like you've got two things that are really making you have these feelings. 1) Anxiety in general. It sounds like you've got a lot of anxiety about making a mistake and causing harm. A small amount of that is good and healthy, but too much c...
  21. OR nurse to ICU?

https://allnurses.com/nurse-colleague-patient/when-last-time-836133.html Here's a story I wrote about my first interview for MICU and what I learned from it. By the way, I work in SICU now... lol.
  22. Best place to apply

I've heard and experienced nothing but good things from UM-Flint.
  23. Shadowing CRNA

You definitely should shadow. I got rejected when I called the hospital HR dept. Then I called the school I was applying to and asked if they had any advice. They immediately set me up with someone at their main hospital clinical site. They said I co...
  24. Best GRE book

Anyone with practice exams. Then time yourself.
  25. Failure is an Option: A New Grad Story

A one way ticket to Hawaii seems to solve a world of problems. I may have to try that sometime. Great story! Man you did have some challenges come against you! I wanted to scream for you.
