  1. Microbiology...Should I Stay or Should I Go???

I took Micro in a regular semester but the last couple weeks were pretty lax, they could've easily condensed those into the rest of the semester. I don't see that it would be an issue. I'm taking a 6 week Chem course right now and it isn't bad at a...
  2. Taking Anatomy and Physiology Online (Condensed)

Ifit is your last pre-req, why are you taking 2 other classes?Condensed classes generally require a bit of work. You also don't necessarily need to read 40 pages, just skim and pick out the important parts.
  3. Study Tips

What works for me is writing things down, it is the best way I've found to commit things to memory.
  4. I googled for information and found out that it is somewhat similar to other campus groups, although it is national. If you have an active chapter on your campus and you want to be actively involved in a campus group, then it might be something to th...
  5. Is 31 too old to start a nursing career?

There was a guy who was 19 posting the other day if it was too late... Obviously, I think you got your answer. I'm like the above IndyElmer where I've been thinking about the career change for many, many years and I just thought that I couldn't do ...
  6. Science courses for Nursing

Well something else to consider is the Intro to A&P course may not be considered a college level course which means it doesn't count for college credits. Now in my experience, I had a ton of extra credits when I got my first BS but if somehow y...
  7. It depends on the program, they might have you on a schedule in which you enter as an official nursing student. You could take more classes per quarter and take classes over the summer to speed up the time. In general, a BS degree takes 4 years to...
  8. about pre-requisit courses!

So I'm not sure what you are confused about but I looked at 3 of the schools you named and they all have common classes with common names. Focus on the classes that are in common and then work on the pre-reqs that aren't common, focusing on whicheve...
  9. I'm so confused, which school do I go to?!

You may be able to sit for the NCLEX-RN but do you ever plan to go for a higher degree? Even if you don't plan it now, plans can change. If you go to Rasmussen, it sounds like you will be trapping yourself in a bit.
  10. I'm so confused, which school do I go to?!

So it sounds like they are a for-profit school with that accreditation. What that means that if you ever want to go for a higher degree, many schools won't accept classes from schools with that accreditation. Which means you'd be stuck with expensi...
  11. I'm so confused, which school do I go to?!

    I wouldn't go to a school that isn't accredited.
  12. Science courses for Nursing

Take human biology, it'll give you the basics.
  13. Science courses for Nursing

Yeah, Chem is the last class I am taking as welll but it is good to take if someone has never take it. Some nursing schools require chem but not all do.
  14. Science courses for Nursing

My AP class didn't require chemistry but it did require Biology. Since you have no science, I'd recommend taking both starting with Biology.
  15. Leaving one career for another .... and nervous!

One day at a time is my advice :) I've been in IT for 14 years and been taking pre-reqs part time for the last 16 months.
  16. career change????

If Paramedic is what you want, I'd look into Paramedic programs. It depends what you want though. Nursing or Paramedic and there is no saying you can't do one then the other.
  17. Why many new grads don't find jobs....

I think CNAs make about 1/4th of what I make now and I'm using my current paycheck to save up for nursing school. I've been eyeing the CNA course at the local community college just to get the experience (it isn't required for the nursing schools) b...
  18. I have no clue. There are somewhere between 50 to 100 million people living within a 365 mile radius of where I live and there are probably hundreds of schools. Within a 50 mile radius of me, there are probably 20 not including the for-profit ones....
  19. Does it matter what college you go to for nursing?

One thing you have to be cautious with is that the CSUs are flaky, in my opinion. Since they have less funding than the UCs, they are more apt to drop classes, drop majors (I know a few people who went to SDSU and had their entire major dropped), et...
  20. Ahh, yeah I'm not too familiar with the ADN process. Luckily, for my pre-reqs, I didn't need financial aid. I looked into the stafford loans thing as a backup plan for my BSN in case I need financial aid.
  21. Anyone qualifies for up to $56k in Stafford (subsidized or unsubsidized) loans for their undergrad. The limits are $12k/year I believe. If you didn't borrow much for your first degree (I think I borrowed $11k for my first degree), then you should s...
  22. Fall 2012 Schedule...Am I crazy?

Yeah, it doesn't seem like a heavy course load to me unless you are working full time.
  23. No jobs for new nursing grads?! Please helppp!

The recession actually didn't hit my area that hard either (luckily). Nurses though still have some trouble getting full time jobs though. We have a bunch of nursing schools though.
  24. NP vs/or MD trouble deciding

Do you have a previous bachelors degree? Do you have the pre-reqs for medical school? If not, those things could take 2-3 years. Also, not everyone who goes to med school gets in on the first round. It is your life, I'd recommend reading up on th...
  25. No jobs for new nursing grads?! Please helppp!

There could be a number of reasons for it. Employers of nurses benefit when the hiring pool is large. Schools who train nurses benefit from the steady stream of students. The truth is that the economy sucks all around. Some areas are more diffic...
