I love my residents dearly, I've cried with family members, cried with residents, prayed with them, held their hand when they were scared, offered an ear when they needed to talk. I just plain love my residents and wouldn't have it any other way.

I work nights and in charge of 48 res, I have 4 aides, I give my own pills but only have about 20 residents to pass pills to and do accuchecks. I don't see how 2 aides can get everyone up in the morning unless you have someone coming in at 5am?

I work nites and have to give pain meds to residents while they are sleeping, but the way I see it, if I didn't give it to them just because they were sleeping then when they woke up, they might wake up in pain. Giving the med while they are sleepin...

We keep our res cigs and lighter when they want to smoke we give them to them, and they go to their designated smoking area. I personally feel if a person chooses to smoke, they should be allowed a place to smoke. It is their home, it may not be hea...

I think its because, we laugh, we cry, we argue, we vent, and then we laugh again. It's a breath of fresh air to come here, no matter what mood your in, you can always play it out here. It's kinda like this TV theme song we all know, but not quite,...
NO COFFEE AFTER 2am? OMG lol, I would be asleep at the nurses station if I stopped drinking coffee. For me, I just take Tyl pm when I get off work, the 30 min drive relaxes me, and I go to bed. Like Tweety, I take little naps on and off, I still thi...

Believe it or not this is one of the reason's that the Medicare program had to reform, People's mentality is why not send the 'rents off for a lil 'vacation' of their own, it's paid for........well go ahead, but when it's time for our generations to ...
Yeah...............MY hubby was great too, but then he started whining about all the time I was spending studying and started trying to sabatoge me. I don't think he really meant to get me to stop school, but he sure gave me a hard time and was, at ...
I have had to get someone that works closely with a Doc, to come and help me understand what he is saying, always make sure you understand what they are saying even if they get a bit ticked off.............especially when they write orders, always cl...
Where I am starting to work, we have a "no lift" policy, we use mechanical lifts...but I'm sure in some emergency situations you may have to lift on occasionYou'll have to answer to any previous surgery for your physical, but it won't keep you from g...
At LTC facility I worked at, we would give the marketers made up names, and wait for the mail to roll in under that name.....One time the Administrator said that the person she needed to talk to was named Margret Sniffles, the office manager took the...

A charge nurse in a LTC setting is usually an LPN, they have to fill out the nursing section of the MDS's yes, and in some places they will write the careplans too. They do monthly summaries, pass meds, IV's, charting, pt assessments, assist in feed...
I agree with Mike... My burnout caused me to quit my job irrationally. I am now starting a job on Tuesday after 9 mos of unemployment. I thought I was ready to get out of nursing and take any 9-5 job I could, but it's not that simple. Many are cho...

I think you're making a good choice. I peronally love MDS's, I also could charge when they needed extra help, and interact w/ pt's while doing my assessments on them. I'm an LPN and I made $15/hr, but when it was advertised the offered RN's 20/hr, th...
That is one well said post...........how many times have we worked through the shortages, then watch the newbies come in and get a sign on bonus of $1000-5000. I talked a nurse into coming over where I worked once when we were really short, and my D...
I just think those comments are made by people that are trying to encourage more males into the profession, I don't think they mean anything deeper than that, but I'm not a real deep person, just simple minded me. I've probably been guilty of saying...
