  1. What type of RN do you wanna be?

I am really drawn to Psychiatric nursing. Psychology has always interested me and I loved my abnormal psych class. Of course this could all change once I go through the different clinicals in my nursing program.
  2. Buying Books for NS

Sometimes it doesn't matter and sometimes it does. I have seen older editions that are layed out completely different than their newer editions. It's kind of a crap shoot as to whether or not it will work.
  3. Associates vs. Bachelors

What about someone who would hold an ADN and a MBA? Any advancement options for that person? I realize a MBA has nothing to do with nursing, but it is an advanced degree.
  4. At my college, I choose a 2 year degree, it's about $6000 for the whole program, that includes books. That isn't really that expensive, when another college a couple miles away charges $18,000 per semester!
  5. We had 4 pre-reqs we had to have done before we could apply to the program. I took 3 of them Fall 2009, and the 4th one spring 2010. I applied for entrance into my program for Fall 2010, and got in. So it took my 2 semesters to get my pre-reqs done...
  6. Help! Having to take COMPASS Math placement test

Don't stress the test too much. It's there to help. You won't be placed in a math that is over your head. I would also recommend you check about your pre-reqs from 20 years ago. Most schools where I am from won't take any transfer credits that a...
  7. Vent: Clinics that don't stock supplies

I would see if you can go to your local health department and have one done and bring the results to your job.
  8. How many worked while in NS?

I have seen quite a few messages where people have stated that working while in nursing school is a bad idea. I'm looking to hear from those that have worked while in nursing school. I have to work. There is no way my family can survive on just my ...
  9. I asked this question on the pre-nursing student board, but I have a feeling it would make more sense to ask the question here. I know that most people recommend that you do not work while in nursing school, but I also know that there are those of us...
  10. Did you work while in nursing school?

Thank you all for your replies! I see quite a few of you who worked in the health field while in nursing school, but did anyone work in a non-nursing/health related field?
  11. Self-doubt

As I read the forums here, I am starting to be overcome by more and more self-doubt. I wonder if I can manage working and going to nursing school at the same time. I also wonder if I'm even smart enough. I currently have a Bachelor's Degree in Acco...
  12. Self-doubt

I have to work. There is no alternative unless I want my family out on the street. My nursing program, classes are done by 11:00am and on clinical days I won't have to work. Thankfully, my work schedule can work around my nursing school.
  13. Self-doubt

I have made it into the program, it's whether or not I'll be successful that I worry about. I don't know what the program will be like, only that getting in is super competitive. I sometimes wonder if I'm putting more pressure on myself that need be....
  14. Self-doubt

Maybe part of it is because I don't feel like I'm leaps and bounds ahead of other students. I've had people in my life tell me how smart I am, and I just don't see it. Hence the self-doubt. The only abuse I've had in my life was growing up my m...
  15. Self-doubt

I have taken all of my pre-reqs and quite a few of my co-reqs. Got A's in them all.
  16. Self-doubt

What if I already feel like the higher degrees were a cake walk? That's a big part of my self-doubt. Because I found my higher degrees so easy.
  17. Self-doubt

In high school, science was one of my weakest subjects. But I did ace both of my A&P classes. I guess I should also add, that for me working full-time is really only 20 hours a week. I'm hoping that I can find at least one person who's start...
  18. Paying for Nursing School

I'm taking out loans for school and working full time. And my husband works as well.
  19. I'm not a nurse yet, but I as a patient, I have actually told nurses that I am a hard stick and they have two tries before someone else needs to try. Why would anyone want to stick 11 times just to save face? Isn't it supposed to be about the pati...
  20. I have no immunization records... what do I do?

Actually, at my school I only have to have the started my Hep B before clinicals. I will have two of the three done before starting so I'm good. Why do you assume you know more than my doctor? I'm sure he knows the difference between the normal re...
  21. Help!! Not IMMUNE HEP B SURFACE RESULT!!!

At my school, as long as you have had your first Hep B shot you can start your clinicals. So I would call around and find some placed to get you in. I would also check with your school and see what their policy is. There is no way to get the whole ...
  22. I have no immunization records... what do I do?

It's been over 10 years since I've had a tetanus booster. I'm pretty sure my doctor knows what he's talking about. I don't think I've had a tetanus booster in over 20 years.
  23. Is working during Nursing School a good idea?

I have wondered the same thing. I have no choice but to work, because we can't survive on just my husband's pay. I'm going to try it, working my work schedule around my classes/labs/clinical schedule. Thankfully my boss will let me do that and dur...
  24. I have no immunization records... what do I do?

If you have had the shots and no records, you need to get the titers done. Do NOT just get new shots. Your body will have a reaction to the vaccines if you are already immune. And the reaction is not fun. I found this out the hard way when I went...
  25. Laptop vs. Pen/Paper

I am getting ready to start a nursing program in the Fall and I am wondering, what's better for note taking during lectures, a laptop or good ol' pen/paper. I know during clinicals and labs pen/paper is probably better, but what about during lectures...
