Job Shadowing After Interview in LDRP

I would say basic things like, do show up on time and ready to go. Ask questions outside of the room. Shadowing is typically hands off, so no patient care. Bring something to write with and a small notebook to take notes. You got this!

Job Shadowing After Interview in LDRP

Congratulations! I hope I am not too late with this reply. If you already shadowed, how did it go? Ask questions as they come up! I'm sure you will have a lot once you are there. Are you an experienced nurse that wants labor experience? Or a ne...

L&D - How long to get used to c-sections?

Hello! I am just one of many nurses who circulated for a c-section. I will give my 2 cents... I will tell you the very first surgery I watched as a student nurse was a GYN surgery. It wasn't bad at all. My nursing instructors told us students to...

    Bedside with an MSN?

Hello! I will try to help. I think you should keep in mind which program is cheaper. ABSN and the MSN with clinical nurse leader will put you at the same place post graduation. You will need some clinical experience after graduation as a nurse b...
  5. Hello! I have been a nurse for 5 years. 3 of those years have been in L&D. 2 were in outpatient prior to that. I have an offer for a full time teaching job at a community college in their ADN program. I would be teaching in their second to last s...
  6. Hello, all! I greatly appreciate the responses. I did not take the position. I ultimately want to feel like I have enough expertise before I teach and I don’t think I do at this time. I’m going to see where my career takes me! ?

Exhausted; I want a way out.

What an update! Congratulations! I read this whole thread. I’m so, so happy things worked out for the better. I hope you can find your nursing spot after all these years. I am 30, nurse for almost 6 years, and I could relate to your post. I’m already...

I have a MSN and I work bedside. It’s possible!
  9. I have two applications completed for FNP school. One is a BSN to DNP at Creighton and the other is a MSN FNP at Clarkson College. How many schools did you apply to and how many did you get into? Thank you!
  10. I need help, and I will start counseling about it here soon. However, I'm turning to allnurses.com to put a label on what I'm feeling because I'm very confused. I have been a nurse for 5 years total, 3 of them in labor and delivery. I feel like a new...
  11. I have worked on my L&D floor for 2.5 years. I took a 7 week break and went to another hospital on their LDRP floor closer to my home, but I didn't like it and went back to my current hospital. That was a big mistake. I do not want to work nights...

Should I be upfront with my supervisor?

Not necessarily, it is more of a courtesy than anything else.
  13. Hello! I wanted to update everyone. I never did go into elementary education. After working as a school nurse, I realized what teachers went through daily and it is definitely something I was not interested in doing after working for that district. T...

Who Did NOT Do a Year of Med Surg?

I didn't, and I am glad I didn't! I never had interest in doing a year of med/surg. I wanted to get into L&D right from when I graduated, but of course, I didn't at first. They don't really hire new grads. So, I worked in a clinic and did school ...

    Fully drain distended bladder?

I was taught to stop draining at 800ml d/t hypotension and bladder spasm. I think you should consult your hospital's specific policy on this, as the exact numbers vary facility to facility. Let us know what you find! ?

    Transferring RN license

You can still practice while holding multiple state licenses. As long as you renew and pay on time, you can hold how ever many licenses you want. As far as applying for an endorsement in another state, it all depends. Some BONs are quicker than other...

    Forgot to unclamp the secondary

This happens a lot! Your hospital may implement something to help decrease this issue. I wasn't taught to "back prime", but many nursing schools are teaching students to start back priming their secondary bags. You hold the secondary bag below the p...

Bloody Urine in Foley Catheter Postpartum?

The vag deliveries with a Foley seems unnecessary, I agree. That is asking for infection or trauma! Klone's answers are spot on.

    New Grad in L&D-

Congratulations! I love OB nursing. I hope you will, too. It sounds like you know you are getting into a challenge, and that is the first step here. I do have a question. Is this a teaching hospital? The residents will do their own exams for the most...

    MOTHER BABY INTERVIEW

    On-call requirements

We are required to sign up for 8 on-call shifts per year. I am full-time. I am unsure if this number differs for part-time or PRN employees. You are on call for 12 hours, are paid $3/hr at home. If you get called in, it's time and a half.
