  1. MDS 3.0 RUGIII to RUGIV Medicare PPS Transition

We are moving back all MDS with an AR date of 1-8 October into September (doing quarterly MDS a few days early) so that the first week is freed up. We will work that first week doing the interviews so that we are in the reference week, not completin...
  2. I have been offered the DON position and seek advice about moving from MDS Coordinator to DON. We are a small facility in a small town, so options are limited. What duties should I expect to have, and does anyone have advice or tips? I have many i...
  3. Offered DON position, questions about duties/pay

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I know I would be frustrated, but I still have the desire to fix what will surely be major deficiencies on our next survey. I have to remind myself to focus on doing my current MDS job to the best of my abilities.
  4. Offered DON position, questions about duties/pay

I currently make $21.50. I tried to negotiate even for $24 with a 50 cent increase after 6 months, but was told no. (Average wage for RNs in our region of the state is $25.46--the lowest in the state.) Our facility is floundering and the list of maj...
  5. How much staffing do you have?

We have 50 beds--about 40 full now in a small LTC. One charge nurse (7a-7p, and 7p-7a) and one additional nurse from 7-3. 6 CNAs on 7-3, 4 on 3-11, and 2 on 11-7. If full, we will have a 3-9 to help cover the dinner shift.
  6. Offered DON position, questions about duties/pay

Thanks. I seem to pick up everything and would like to have the official title and a little more pay to go with it. They offered $1 more an hour. I said, "No thanks." They countered with $1.50. I am sticking firm with $3.50, which is still below ...
  7. why is the pay so low?!?!

That is too bad. I was one semester from finishing an RN bridge when we moved (my husband's job) so it was my only option. I now live 220 miles from the school I was attending, in a tiny town 70 miles from the nearest McDonalds.
  8. why is the pay so low?!?!

Check out Excelsior's RN online program. All told, it cost me $6K and took less than one year. I did it while working as an LPN 50-60 hours/wk and family. My pay went up $6/hr, so it more than makes up for the cost. Plus, you have many more oppor...
  9. Offered DON position, questions about duties/pay

I have been doing the work of the ADON for the past six months or so. Our DON was in poor health, so our nurse manager took over, and I ended up picking up a lot of the miscellaneous duties. I am Safety, QA/QI, patient advocate, Rehab nurse supervi...
  10. Need spreadsheets or worksheets please!

Any chance I could beg you to send this info to me as well? I know this post thread is old, but it is relevant for me now. Thanks, Dori
