  1. Hi! I have just completed my first year as a RN on a Child/Adolescent psych floor. Long story short, I moved to another state and had a baby. I took an offer on another Child/Adolescent Psych floor part time but am hoping to transfer within the same hospital to a medical floor in the future. This new psych floor has an ICU in which I will be cross-trained in, in case I need to float there but, I was told, this is unlikely. So, what can I do to increase my chances of being hired onto a medical floor? Are there any certifications etc. that I can look into to increase my chances of being hired ( and my confidence!) onto a medical floor? When would it be appropriate to start looking and to transfer (6 months after being hired? a year?). Thank you very much!

What's The Weirdest Name You've Heard A Patient Name Her Baby?

I knew a Nevaeh (who at 3 years old would proudly tell everyone her name was "heaven" spelled backwards). Also a Kai'onn (pronounced Ki (rhymes with sky) on-had to teach him how to spell his name too!)
  3. Calling all ABPNN members! There is a pre-semester get together at Jeremiah's near Cobb's Hill Park on Monroe Ave for August 20th at 5pm. Hope to see you there! http://www.jeremiahstavern.com/
  4. Hey! I am organizing a pre-semester get-together at Jeremiah's near Cobb's Hill Park on Monroe Avenue for August 19th around 5:30-6. If you would like to come, let me know and I can reserve space for us. Also, if other members of our cohort are not on this page, please let them know they're more than welcome! Looking forward to meeting everyone!
  5. Hi Syberian Puppy, I turned in my deposit for the Fall start date for the APNN. I got the housing information and turned in my application and fee for the on-campus housing. I'm just concerned because we are moving from so far away! I've looked through the websites provided and it seems like there are a lot of places for roommates or house sharing. We're not old but my husband and I act like an old married couple and we like our privacy! We've also been bunking with family this last year so we're really looking forward to our own place (even if it's small!).
  6. I'm also concerned about housing-my husband and I are coming from Southern California. Does anyone know when we are expected to hear about on-campus housing? I turned in my application yesterday... Or any good websites for looking for off-campus housing?
  7. Monkabee-I've been wondering the same thing! I'm from Southern Cali. though so the packet has farther to go for me... I'm anxious to read it! Anyone else get the admissions packet yet for Fall 2011 start?
  8. Does anyone know how many people were accepted into the Accelerated Bachelor's Program? I remember that 400 people applied for this semester, I just can't recall how large the class size is for the September start date?
  9. Yes, I got into the Accelerated Bachelor's program. The hubby and I are moving from California (although he is from the Rochester area and has family there). Hoping we got married couples housing!
  10. I called them this morning for an update on my application. I spoke with ***** and she told me that I'm in!!!!!!! They will be mailing the admissions packets (which has financial aid info as well) early next week! I can't believe I'm in-what a relief!=)

Rochester ABSN - Fall 2011 Applicants

I applied for Fall 2011 as well. I have a phone interview on Tuesday! Getting nervous! Has anyone had an interview (phone or in person?) If so, how was it?
  12. I just started taking my prepreq courses to apply for a second degree bachelor program. I would like to start working in the medical field while taking these classes so I can have a stronger application. Has anyone tried the CNA program- specifically in Escondido, CA? The price ($875) seems very high based on what I've read others have paid for their CNA programs (roughly $150). What did you think? Any recommendations for programs or how to break into the medical field? Starting to feel frustrated and I just started:uhoh3:
  13. I am taking the TEAS in three short weeks(!) and was wondering if anyone used GED books to study for the TEAS (specifically for math and science)? Did you find them helpful/not helpful? Thank you!
