  1. Done done done and done

Congratulations!!! Color me green with envy! I have 14 days left until I am finished. WOOHOO!!!! (Final exams and ONE last preceptorship day left, then a week of Kaplan test prep.) I can almost taste the freedom. LOL
  2. I haven't touched most of my first semester books in quite a while. I did keep my Basic Nursing book handy though. My med-surg book has been used ever since I started my second semester. I also keep my Psych Nursing book close by just to use for care...
  3. Yes and no. I will say it was more intense, and there has been that much more clinical paperwork to do, along with class papers to write. I truly believe it depends on your program though. (Only four weeks until graduation for me. WOOHOO!)
  4. I feel so unprrepared

Don't sweat it too much. I feel pretty much the same way you do, and I am four weeks from graduating. LOL. I have yet to have an instructor or a nurse at a clinical site tell me that I will be comfortable from day one on the job. EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. ha...
  5. You won't laugh about being nervous about NS, you'll be laughing over WHAT it was you were nervous about. LOL. I'm six GLORIOUS weeks from graduation and can't believe the things I was nervous about, and the stuff I wasn't. HA HA HA. Try your best t...
  6. Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Psych Patients

I just stumbled across this terrific article! I'm with Miss Elaine- instruction needs to be reevaluated for a lot of people. I had a TERRIFIC Psych instructor who made sure we spent VERY little time at the nurse's station. We were there to help pass ...
  7. Ditto to Holly! I also get stopped when I'm in the drug store and asked for advice if I'm wearing my school scrubs. They CLEARLY say RN STUDENT on them. Scary....(especially since there's usually a pharmacist within 50 feet to answer the question.)
  8. Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012

Hate that too mindlor. If you can't pay for it, either don't buy it, go to school for it, or pay the consequences of not being able to purchase anything again and having your paycheck garnished. People need to take RESPONSIBILITY for themselves, not ...
  9. APA Outline Format HELP please

    http://examples.yourdictionary.com/apa-outline-format-examples.html :D
  10. Along the lines of hairdressing...you could also teach a group of stylists how to screen for possible skin cancer. Living here in Arizona where we ALL pretty much live in the sun, it's something we think about a LOT, and we cannot check our heads lik...
  11. See if you can get into triage!!! I got five IV starts on the day I spent there. Made the rotation worthwhile. LOL. It may not be as bad as you have it made out to be. I know one of the guys in my class got to help deliver a baby, and the mother was ...
  12. I have on called "All in One Care Planning Resource." Don't waste your money on it.
  13. Textbooks: Have you tried international editions?

I get INTL editions whenever I can. Seriously saves a TON of $$$.
  14. Accelerated BSN to MSN programs

I know the University of Arizona has that option. Don't know how you feel about moving to sunny Tucson, AZ though.
  15. LONELINESS while in nursing school

Like a PP, I take a day off a week. I need my sanity, and I just can't keep it unless I spend time with my family, and somewhat clean my house. As for my friends, they had a little "going away" party for me before school started and told me they'll ...
  16. Organizing my workday at clinicals

I have one simple form I carry with me. The top half is info that I get from report at the beginning of the day, along with room for vitals, and an area for anything I should note from my head to toe assessment. (If something is within norms, I tend ...
  17. How important is being physically fit in Nursing?

If you're not going to lose weight, you at least need to get to a point where you can be on your feet for 12 hours without a lot of sitting down and relaxing. I'm a fat girl, and I can tell you that I am VERY thankful for the fact that my previous ca...
  18. Most Embarassing Moments During Clinicals!!!!!

Oh, as for embarrassing moments...this one isn't bad, but it was funny at the time. I managed to squirt the ceiling of a pt's room with a saline flush. D'OH! I pray every time I walk into a hospital for clinicals that I don't have anything worse than...
  19. Most Embarassing Moments During Clinicals!!!!!

And the ONLY reason I like my fugly maroon scrubs! (Complete with 3" elastic waist band, tapered legs, AND sewn in crease down the front!)
  20. Who on Earth wants a nurse who cannot empathize with you at all? Certainly not I! I think what you've been through will make you be able to see the world with clear eyes, rather than through the binders of those who had a good life, went right into N...
  21. About to start Maternal-Child Nursing...Advice?

Go back and reread all your childhood development information...Erikson et al...Learn (or re-learn) how pregnancy affects the body, what happens and why it happens...and the same for postpartum. That's what most of the info is based on...for instance...
  22. I don't mean to sound snarky, but you don't know what to relate infection to for a pt with sepsis? You can look down the list of what you put and name something different for each one and have your five there. As for your psychosocial...think of how ...
  23. What do you listen to while studying

I am so envious of you that can listen to music while studying. I was THIS CLOSE to having a degree in Music Education, so as a total music geek, I can't concentrate while it's on. LOL. I have to have the tv blaring in order to concentrate. (Weird I ...
  24. Tips for getting organized?

I have an oddly placed bookshelf next to my study space, plus I live and die by my calendar organizer. (I use Google calendar and sync it with my phone.) To keep my house organized and semi-clean, we do the Fly Lady method, then it's basically clean...
  25. white shoes

My answer to the title of this is... White shoes are the devil's work. LOL!!! I seriously can't stand them and can't wait to graduate and get a colored pair. Try on all sorts of shoes...I probably spent $220 on two different pair of nursing shoes bef...
