  1. What a way to end a great shift

Just remember A,B,C's airway, breathing, and circulation. You were handling the priority case. Just write up the incident report for the higher ups. They need to see that sometimes the nurse to patient ratios are not realistic in regards to safety...
  2. How many RN's scrub?

Yep I've worked with them and most of them end up in some type of management position. LOL Just kidding. The lazy ones that I have worked with are just doing it for the money and can't try a job better suited to them because they can't afford to fin...
  3. How many RN's scrub?

Well I am a med/surg nurse that moved to the OR because I think it's a great specialty. I hope that there's hope for me even though I came from med/surg. There are a lot of nurses that I know that started out med/surg before moving to the OR and th...
  4. How many RN's scrub?

I think alot of the problem about not having enough nurses in the OR is that nursing schools don't do any OR training . If a nurse wants an OR job he/she has to be lucky enough to find a hospital that will give on the job training, or enroll in cont...
  5. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

My husband has it pretty bad also. He wears the brace at night which helps quite a bit. Has anyone had any experience with cortisone shots?
  6. Ssi's

Well I don't know much about this subject but I can venture a guess. It could be technique, it could be certain protocols such as whether or not they premedicate with antibiotics, could be the patient's immune system. Also the way that the site is ...
  7. Phhewww, I PASSED!

SCRN, I have found myself signing RN after my name when signing checks and stuff too!!! I signed my kid's homework that way once, LOL>
  8. Passes NCLEX with 175 questions

Now the real work begins. You'll learn more in this first year than all the years of college! Good luck.
  9. Well, it's over....

Laura, I went through the same thing last week. It was hard leaving after a year. Kept worrying if I gave it enough time and if I'll be challenged in the new job. Now that I'm ready to start my new position I'm really excited. I know that if it's...
  10. Advice Re: med surg rotation

One of my really good friends works on a rehab floor in my hospital and believe me they do more than just bowel and bladder management. Yea they do that stuff because they have a lot of quads and paras, but they also do central line draws, IV antibi...
  11. RN bashing

There always seems to be alot of accusing each other of being lazy.
  12. Constantly Starting IV's in OR??

I know on our floor when we have to run an IV the tubing we have has a filter that goes into the pump. You can't set it up to run manually. I know that we get a lot of post op patients where we have to change all the tubing over to set them up to t...
  13. What to do for a whole year?

I don't know if you would get much out of volunteering, I mean you wouldn't have any direct patient care so if you were going there to get some experience that probably wouldn't be the way to go. Now if you were looking to just find a way to fill ti...
  14. What to do for a whole year?

I would definately listen to the other posters and try to get a job as a CNA someplace. You will definately learn alot. If I had it to do over again I would have done more CNA stuff before graduation. JMHO
  15. NCLEX at 9:00 am tomorrow.....Prayers

Ok how did you do??? My best friend took her test today, she's going through all the same things I went through when I took it last year. I'm right there with her.
  16. Constantly Starting IV's in OR??

I think it's a good idea to have a fresh IV going before surgery. For all you seasoned OR nurses, does guage size matter? I always try to start a pt going to preop with a 18 or 20 guage.
  17. Which speciality is the hardest to work with?

I love plastic surgery. Would love to get into a place that does just that. Ahhh dare to dream. I'm just starting out in the OR so I don't know who or what is difficult.
  18. Constantly Starting IV's in OR??

When I first started nursing I hated starting IV's. I got sick of having to ask people to start them for me so I got my certification. Go with a resource nurse for a couple of hours and they can precept you. That's what I did. I love starting the...
  19. If you could work anywhere..

I wish I could get an OR position in the hospital I'm at now instead of having to go to a smaller one further away for some training. Oh well it will be an experience and I'll have normal hours.
  20. I have a good friend that just graduated nursing school and her fiance is extremely jealous and possessive and refuses to allow her to work in a hospital because he doesn't want her seeing other men. I'm not sure what he's worried about. I find it...
  21. For all of you night nurses

OMG too funny about forgetting things. After working a stretch I can't remember simple things like my PIN number for my voice mail. Sometimes I get really short tempered when I can't remember things.
  22. For all of you night nurses

My brother-in-law works nights driving an oil truck and he told me that he has trouble getting words out. He knows what he wants to say but gets tongue tied. I have memory lapses, get really frustrated easily and have had a few emotional breakdowns ...
  23. anyone know about magic mix?

I've heard of Magic Mouthwash which is used for patients with mouth sores. It's a combo of Benedryl and Mylanta and you swish and spit. I've used it myself for canker sores and it does work!
  24. Took Nclex today, got 75 questions

I got 75 and passed also! Keep us posted :balloons:
  25. Time for family

I graduated school in May 2003. I started the program in fall of 1999. I had an 8 year old, 6 year-old, 5 year-old, and a 2 year-old. I actually feel like I had a lot of quality time at home. I didn't attend classes 8 or 12 hours a day like work...
