  1. hmmmmm....

You can...but some pre-reqs vary from school to school and some schools are picky on accepting credits from another school so not all your credits may transfer or you might have to take extra classes...
  2. do i give up?

I had a similar problem, my first year at school I wasn't serious and got crappy grades. I realized I wanted to do nursing, and my grades are fine now but it still messed up any chance at a public BSN...
  3. ADN vs BSN

Yup. At least around here. The only difference between my ADN program and the local BSN program when it comes to core nursing classes are 5 classes that are research, management, and community...
  4. I'm just curious does anyone know how much of a role having healthcare experience (ER tech, CNA in a hospital, etc) helps you when you are a new grad? Does it help? Or to employers is a new grad...
  5. Congratulations! I'm hoping to get into my adn program for fall 2012. I've been on the waiting list almost 2 years so we'll see! I'll also be starting my rn-bsn as soon as I graduate, I have a bunch...
  6. ADN vs BSN

Where I live BSN and ADN nurses make exactly the same, and from what I've heard the difference at a lot of hospitals is a paltry amount. For the programs around here the difference in core nursing...
  7. What is this difference you speak of...? I work with nurses who practice faith and nurses who don't..And from what I've seen they all give excellent care
  8. Crap...now what?

I agree that those are the hardest parts of being a nurse and I think a practical exam wouldn't be practical in most cases..My point was more that a 4.0 GPA doesn't necessarily mean you are going to...
  9. Crap...now what?

Passing the NCLEX in itself doesn't mean you are going to be a great nurse. There are plenty of bad nurses out there, and all of them have passed the NCLEX. Having a 4.0 GPA also doesn't guarantee you...
  10. Is there a nursing shortage or not?

I agree. I think in many areas the BSN will definitely help, but it's no guarantee and BSN grads are still having a hard time. I see a lot of posts implying if you get your ADN you won't find a job,...
  11. Discouraged after speaking to a counselor

The local BSN program here you can be waitlisted and not get in. If someone gives up their spot or is disqualified you get in.otherwise you just have to apply the next year but there is no gurantee...
  12. Struggle with pre-reqs, and go on to be successful??

I think it really depends...I think a lot of people who do poorly in their pre-reqs don't do so because they're dumb or don't get it but because maybe their study habits aren't as well developed
  13. Is there a nursing shortage or not?

I think it depends where you are. Where I live there isn't really a shortage, but from what I've seen ADNs and BSNs are both not having too hard of a time finding
  14. Discouraged after speaking to a counselor

It depends on your school's retake policy...I know some programs if you fail a class and retake it, they still see the F but you can explain why you got that F (personal reasons, etc) and they might...
  15. RN's, how much did you borrow for school?

I know a lot of people who have done that...I can't imagine doing it either! I think it's easy to do because since you are not paying them off anytime soon it's easy to just not think about the fact...
  16. BSN to ADN transfer programs

Where do you live? It really depends on the job market in your area. Some hospitals in certain areas won't hire ADNs. Where I live hospitals don't seem to care as long as it says RN after your name....
  17. It really depends where the OP lives. Where you live hospitals may not be hiring ADNs but where I live hospitals don't care as long as you are an RN. Even magnet hospitals will hire ADNs if they...
  18. RN's, how much did you borrow for school?

I won't have any debt when I finish my ADN program...I'll only need 4 classes to have my BSN because I spent a year and a half doing pre-reqs for a BSN program but didn't get in, and all the other BSN...
  19. Bryant & Stratton Nursing Program - WI

I would choose cardinal stritch over bryant and stratton but that's just me....I would definitely try to find a school nationally accredited especially if you want to work at Froedert. Also just to...
  20. Hiring outlook for ADN vs. BSN in your town?

Uhh last time I checked the D in ADN stood for
  21. clinical requirements

It really really depends on several things...What kind of crime, felony or misdemeanor, and how long it's been since the crime...I know in Wisconsin certain crimes such as battery or child neglect...
  22. Worried about not having a 4.0? DONT!

I agree, many schools you DO need close to a 4.0. Around here at the private BSN programs you'll be fine with a 2.7. But any of the state universities you really need at least a 3.7. I know people...
  23. Need help to convince parents!

What I would do too is research the area you live...There are places in the country where many hospitals are going BSN only. There are also areas (such as where I live) that hospitals couldn't care...
  24. Need help to convince parents!

I agree...If you want to go the BSN route don't do it just for the college experience. Many BSN students I know never got that "college experience" because of how much time studying/clinicals took...
  25. difference between cna and sec/tech

I'm not sure it depends on their policy....You said you've applied for unit secretary positions and gotten them correct? Did you actually work as a unit secretary? If you did I think you would already...
