  1. How would that work with your hospital? I have thought of doing the same, but feel like if I go prn I might not get enough work when I come back. I love my job and don't want to lose it but want to TRAVEL!
  2. I started out on a busy m/s floor for about 9 months before moving to peds and feel like I learned a LOT that I may not have learned here. Even though I disliked my first job I think it made me a much better peds nurse.
  3. Jattjatt, are you asking me? Yes, I worked elsewhere for 9 months, then retook the test and got a job there...been there for 2.5 years and am happy in my job:)

Greek yogurt (Fage brand with honey) and string cheese.
  5. I wear an XS petite in Urbane and Grey's Anatomy...Med Couture runs the same in sizing compared to these brands for me, except I don't need petite pants. I think they are my favorite scrubs I own. Try 'em, I have a feeling you will like them:)

L.O.L. Yes, I have noticed some leftover crumbs and cups when I get to work at 0645. One reason among many I have been wanting to switch to nights.

Where you work, are you allowed to have water (in a covered container) at your workstation?
  8. 1. TN 2. 1 3. hospital 4. 21.50 5. 4.50 from 4-7 p 6. Union- heck no, I live in the South
  9. This made me laugh! I thought the same thing to myself, and especially a particular pt of mine (one of six pts, as usual) who had meds every single hour of my shift save for two. What, why!? And him being rude for my coming in so often did not help.
  10. You gotta do what is right for you, if you know what I mean...
  11. I chose my 1st job b/c it was a day shift, the people seemed friendly, and the building was clean and had lots of light. My new job I chose b/c it is close to my house, and b/c it will provide ample opportunity to learn new skills. Also, of all the interviews I have had, this one was the least stressful.
  12. As the first poster said, it is not unheard of for hospitals to schedule rotating shifts, but where I live it is very rare, most are straight nights or days. I would say put in some applications and see, it can't hurt to try.
  13. I have contacted my recruiter and was told it is this particular health board who is not responding...apparently whoever conducts the background checks wants verifications that this red flag on my former health license is nothing serious. I am considering calling them myself to ask them why they aren't replying, but am concerned that might make them drag their feet even more.
  14. Hi all- I have been offered a job and completed my physical + paperwork. I am wondering though about the background check as that is the only thing not finished. Before becoming a nurse I had a license in a health-related field and did not complete all my CEU's one year, and it is on my record. That state board has not replied to the background check for nearly a month. Is there anything I can do to expedite the process? Is there a particular time frame in which they have to reply?
  15. I would personally jump at the chance to be a hospitalist RN.
  16. Well I just received my Blue Sky scrubs...my first impression is not good. I somehow did not realize they are 65% polyester. I am sure they withstand multiple washings, but I like softness against my skin. Also, they make me look like I have no butt and while one pair is a good length for me, the other I would definitely have to hem.
  17. I just ordered a couple of pairs from there, will let you know how they are...
  18. I like Nurse Mates knee-highs with 15-20 grade compression. I have yet to try Jobst, but for the money, I think Nurse Mates are good.
  19. Personally, I would prefer to NOT have to deal with management during day shift. In-services, leader rounds, case conference...I lose a lot of time that would be better spent elsewhere. Trust me, it doesn't gain me anything.
  20. I was actually hired for a position within the hospital system without my manager knowing. However, after I was hired she was notified and I had not had time to let her know I was transferring. I wish it had come from me, not the new manager.
  21. NO way. I had 12 weeks, and agree with whomever said earlier to look for another job. 10 patients is too many even for an experienced nurse.
  22. My sister goes to Belize every year; I have been saving up...maybe next May? Also lately I have just been wanting to rent a convertible and drive out West...never been to Vegas, so that is on the list.
  23. O'Rion, I just bought that Hazinski book! I have accepted the informal offer for the PICU, and did my physical Wednesday, so hopefully I will get the official offer soon.
  24. I want to do both! It is a great problem to have, but still a tough decision. I think I am going to the PICU, and then later on down the road will try for ER.
