  1. This is nice. If only it were that simple. Unfortunately, the nursing floors are politically driven. It is who you know and who you are connected with. If this nurse, who has "proven" herself to be such an asset that she is mentoring new nurses,...
  2. I bet she has the most gold stars attached to her badge as well. How can management not know certain things about certain people? I've heard nurses actually swear on the floor, and then laugh with each other, and get another pin in their badge. ...
  3. I hate what's happening to nursing...

alaine - you sound like someone in management. I don't care if I say my own thing or what the hospital wants me to say. BUT - if I was lying in bed and nurse after nurse, shift after shift, came in and said the same thing to me - I would have HIGH ...
  4. I hate what's happening to nursing...

The money isn't what it used to be. They are cutting back. Ask some new grads what they make and it's getting worse. Job security? An RN today is a dime a dozen. You do anything someone doesn't like - YOU'RE FIRED. I wouldn't call that job s...
  5. How can you tell if nursing is a good fit for you?

Double Yikes! NP isn't the same as a floor nurse, but you might have to work the floor for a few years! Good luck. I'd watch who's toes you step on, however. Really - it's very cut throat. Just my humble advice - you don't have to take it.
  6. How can you tell if nursing is a good fit for you?

Yikes - stop right there. You love what you're doing..... What we go through is NOTHING like what's on TV. Please read the posts. Stay with the animals. You're dream is not reality - - sorry.
  7. I hate what's happening to nursing...

My Name is Kristy, I will be your nurse today. I will be rounding on you hourly. Please let me know if you need anything. My name is Lauren, I will be your nurse today. I will be rounding on you hourly. Please let me know if you need anything. ...
  8. I hate what's happening to nursing...

You hit something right on the head. There is subtle backstabing going on with nurses, and sometimes not so subtle. It will be a snear, a comment, or eye roll, or downright gossip. A little comment to add fuel to any fire. I think the reason thi...
  9. I give in to drug seeking patients

I meant I've even had patients (not nurses - just about every nurse I know is familiar with drug seeking patients) complaint about a nurse in the form of "changing the doctor's order" etc. That's how it's been put, by more than one actually. They ...
  10. I hate what's happening to nursing...

We are scripted to say, among other things, that we will round on the patient every hour. Then they pay management to walk around and ask every patient if they knew someone would be rounding on them every hour and if they have any problems with thei...
  11. Hope is NOT for the faint of heart

Gosh golly - I wonder what happened to the "nursing shortage." We haven't been lied to, now have we? We'd be fired for lying.... Makes you wonder. Supply and demand. There was a nursing shortage a decade ago, but when there no longer was a sho...
  12. I give in to drug seeking patients

Absolutely. It has been made into the patient dictating their pain meds environment... I've even had nurses complain about a nurse on the previous shift that "she has no right to change the doctors' order." "The doctor ordered her meds and she's a...
  13. How can you tell if nursing is a good fit for you?

What's anesthesia service? How did you get that job? (And, you are right about the CNAs and other nurses acting inappropriately. There are clicks. There are people who can get away with murder, and others who can't. It's not a fair system or log...
  14. I hate what's happening to nursing...

I am so with you on that. No way am I getting my BSN. If I have a chance to go back to school (probably when my son is in college), it will be to get a degree in a field I will enjoy. I am in an abusive environment going to work as a nurse. Why ...
  15. I give in to drug seeking patients

My experience is drug seekers know what they are allowed to have and when they can have it. And, they ask, how often can I have that. I don't even bother anymore to try to save them from themselves or resist. Otherwise, you will have a patient com...
  16. How can you tell if nursing is a good fit for you?

Just my advice, you don't have to take it, but don't do it. The stress and how you are treated is not worth it. (If you find a job)
  17. I hate what's happening to nursing...

I feel like I'm getting an ulcer with the adrenaline running through my body all the time. I feel like I walk on egg shells with trying to be perfect, knowing the gauntlet is there if I'm not. Not only are we responsible for knowing everything, but...
  18. LVNs training RNs???

You are certainly entitled to your opinion...., but, I have to disagree with you. Being brand new and working on a nursing unit is so extremely political, I was trying to help this new grad keep her job. She was assigned this preceptor for a reason...
  19. Absolutely great! Patient rights! I wouldn't do either, but then again, these students are being pressured or else they are out. What a crock of bs. We didn't have to do bed baths at all. We also didn't inject eachother with needles - I think th...
  20. Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC): FAQ

WOW - that would be a great career! I've always thought about it, but there is no way I would want to be an Expert Witness. I also worry that I'd be good enough... I do have about 15 years legal secretary exp., prior to becoming a nurse - and 8 years...
  21. Wow - it sounds like a total violation of privacy. Your relationship with your classmates is much different than with a patient. I would see if it is in the written policies that you have to participate in this or be kicked out. Being clothed and ...
  22. I have to reply to this and I know you "won't like me", but here goes anyhow... I think your attitude is somewhat immature. Nursing is difficult enough. There are going to be personalities you don't understand, but there is always some way to find ...
  23. LVNs training RNs???

DON'T SAY ANYTHING. When in Rome....do as the Romans. The most important thing you have to learn is politics. You will get blacklisted and lose your job. Who are the LPN's friends? Do you know that? She was nice to you - thank your lucky stars!...
  24. Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC): FAQ

Hi. Thanks for this post. Just verifying - you don't have to be an expert witness if you don't want to? You help prepare, etc... Thank you.
  25. Hi. I can't read the whole post, but I got through the first paragraph or so, and the first thing that comes to mind is WHERE IS THE DOCTOR. The Nursing Home Doctor to write orders for the new admits....? The only solution I can see is that there a...
