I started out as a pct in a hospital. I had no experience. Of course, my mom was and still is one of their best RNs. Most of my coworkers had no experience when they started. They train you. It's MUCH easier than being an stna in a nursing home. If I could go back in time, I'd have never become a nurse. I wish I'd stayed a pct at the hospital! I think you have a good chance. Good luck!!

A few years ago, I visited my sister in L&D after the birth of her daughter. She was in the exact same room I had been in 3 years earlier when I had my son. Her 2 year old daughter was playing on the floor. I almost puked....because when I was the patient in that room, I left a huge puddle of blood in that very spot, along with a bloody trail into the bathroom where I almost passed out arter barfing on my Nurse's shoes. EWWWW. How many pp women have bled on that floor? I demanded that my little niece get up and stay off of that floor!!

I agree with the op. It is wrong to call yourself a nurse if you aren't one.

That's very sad. The uniforms they usually want you to wear are so uncomfortable and don't fit! When I wear ill fitting clothing I feel so stupid and am less productive because I am thinking about how ridiculous and unprofessional I look! At the hospital I used to work at they had their employees "color coded" but you could buy any brand as long as they were the right color.

I had a patient a few years ago who somehow knew what city I lived in. He told every nurse and aide that walked in his room what city they lived in too! I also had a psych patient who somehow knew I was a single parent, how many kids I had, where I lived, and the car I drove. He said he was going to be a great father to my children. SCARY! We had our first and last names on our badges there.

Before the death of my niece, I was in the room with a family when their 45 year old mother died of cancer. One of her 19 year old twin sons had left the floor to smoke and the other twin met him in the hallway. They grabbed eachother and fell to the floor sobbing and hugging. I cried. My coworkers cried. It was terrible.

I have seen many deaths. The worst was when my 2 year old niece died in 2009. My mother (who is also a nurse) and I washed and combed her hair afterward. I'll never forget my sister begging us to do something about all that gunk in her daughter's hair(from the code).

Don't take your shoes and socks off to shower a patient (so you don't get your new shoes wet). Nasty.

The daughter's comments were rude and insulting.....you have every right to be offended. Why is everyone else being so rude about it too?

You don't catch shingles. You can catch chicken pox if you have never had them before. Some physicians will say there's a risk to your fetus others say there is NO risk. Usually we don't let pregnant nurses or PCAs in the room with a shingles patient. I hope this helps.:redbeathe

I got both on 10/20 for free at the hospital I work at. My son has been sick since 10/17 and is going to the doctor this afternoon. They think he has swine flu. He turns 6 this month and has been home from school all week. My daughter who turns 5 this month now has a fever too! My sister is 28 weeks pregnant and she was over on 10/17 with her 2 year old and now i'm so worried about them catching it! I was told it takes 4-6 days after exposure to show symptoms!!

The inside wrist veins almost always work for me! They terrified me at first but I have never had any problems using them. I have seen people stick patients between the fingers! I feel so bad for the pt because that really seems to hurt them.

My aunt is in the evening lpn program in Ravenna. She does Mon-Thurs and Saturday clinicals I think 7am-4 or 5 pm.

I keep seeing the same things on here. I know someone who got their LPN at Bohecker and had trouble finding a job for a while but finally found a part time job at a nursing home.

What's so great about breastfeeding? My children were born less than a year apart. I bottle fed my 1st kid because he was born early and had to eat EXTRA calorie formula.The hospital tried to help me breastfeed him but he wouldn't or couldn't suck. I breastfed my 2nd kid even though I had TONS of formula (given by the hospital AND left over from my son) and the hospital NEVER tried to get me to breastfeed (I decided to try it on my own at home) I gave birth in 2 different states. My premature, bottlefed child is very rarely sick and my right on time perfect pregnancy and delivery, breastfed baby has a non stop cold! She DOES seem a lot SMARTER than her brother....but I think that's because she's a GIRL.
