NEWSFLASH....... I did not write the original post.... it was an ARTICLE of interest posted here, written elsewhere. I do, however, have the right to respond with my opinion. We will not agree on the union issue as I feel unions reps are elected by the majority of union members..... thus giving them a voice. My low opinon of the governator, has been duly earned. His opinon about Nursing and Teachers, and the unions that represent him, has been widely publicized. He is NOT supporting Nurses and Teachers and I will NOT be supporting him for ANY cause. If you wish to believe that he does not have influence in this cause, then that is certainly your right. I believe otherwise, and there is NO amount of debating that will change my mind. So back to the original programming......

Hmmmm.... I didn't think I sounded angry or upset...... I do think that Ahhnold is not acting in the best interest of the people of the state of CA, in which I reside. In my opinion, to which I am allowed, Ahnold has taken a very public opinion against teachers and nurses. The article posted is not the first bit of info I have read on the subject. Our household gets mail frequently on from the governator (we live in CA). and my husbands Union.... I read it all, call me informed. Perhaps you might want to do a little more research about the Ahnold on your own.

Illegal Drugs At Work?
I agree with you about not being a nursing narc partrol member.... lol heck who would have the time??? lol I was referring to the OP's situation. Some substances are just too dangerous to have weekend and day off playtime with. Heroine and Cocaine wold be two that immediately come to mind. I have to agree with you on the doobie smoking. I know people who have a little every blue moon or so.... without apparent long term effects. But the habitual smokers that I've seen are shy a few brain cells. Me..... I'll settle for a beer every once in awhile.... I like to relax but not get anywhere near drunk . Tho I have to admit that last year I did have 3 beers and sang kareoke..... will my sins ever end???:chuckle MaryRose Hugs to ya Z!

Illegal Drugs At Work?
I strongly disagree. How would you feel if you knew this person had a history of using illegal drugs and something happened to a patient?? We have to have some responsibility for what the information we obtain (Granted it must be accurate and not some rumormill hearsay). Maybe when she worked with you she appeared competent..... but out of your sight was not. If you want to mess with illegal substances then you have issues that need attending to and should not be caring for patients until you can get help. I certainly would not want to find out that the staff caring for my family was using Illegal drugs on their off time. This also applies to those who abuse alcohol. I know of many "functional alcoholics" who may seem "normal"..... but I would not want them responsible for my patients. Sure they haven't had their alcohol yet, waiting to get drunk after work.... but their system is craving it and it does affect their body. With patient acutity as it is, do you really want to sign off on work done by someone who might be impaired???:stone just my honest opinion. Mary Rose PS..... there is a great difference from being a functional alcoholic to having a drink after work with friends... I'm not trying to infer that at all.

Worried about recieving C in a&p.....
I think it would depend on your individual program. I'm applying to one that is a lottery based application and the other from gpa. So while it would make a difference in one, it wouldn't in the other. Can you go to the school you wish to attend and speak to someone in the nursing department? Take a print out of your grades, current gpa and ask them what this does for your application. Best to find out form the source. Best wishes! Hugs! MaryRose

Why Are Nurses Given Such A Bad Rap Today?
Nurturing each other was what I had in mind with this post.... but there were only three respondants. https://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101879 It would be nice if more nurses (and the people they have to work with) wanted to have a supportive environment. I'm beginning to think that nurses want to complain and hope someone else will makes the changes. It would take so little for there to be a difference..... as was stated earlier.... one shift, one floor or even one person can make a change. You have to work thru the shift anyway...... wouldn't it be a whole lot easier if you had a supportive team around you? Hugs! MaryRose

racism in nursing
Not that you don't have a problem with your program, but I do not see any race issues in this complaint. It sounds like across the board it's difficult. To the OP: I agree that racism should not be tolerated. Should the course or instructor refer to anything of that nature, you should have recourse. Possibly contact the ACLU for advise. Unfortunately, grading can be subjective and it would be better to have an agency that is well versed to back you. It's difficult to know how the administration would react. Posting more information would give us a better idea of how to help you. In the meantime, hang in there!!! Do not let them win.... get your RN and be a role model for others.:) Hugs! MaryRose

Totally Freaked out by Autopsy
((((((((((((Jenn)))))))))). I declined going to an autopsy this past week myself as I could not get past the thought of my Dad's autopsy even tho it has been a few years. This was option to attend for physiology class. Is an autopsy mandatory for ADN??? Honestly I am not sure how I will handle it if it is. I can deal with deqath, but seeing the body handled like that would freak me out too. Hugs to ya Jen! MaryRose

Do you have a Weasel at work?
Sorry this happened to you, and I agree that this is extremely petty. As long as you were doing your job well, not gossiping about work, and the manager was doing her job without bias it should have not been an issue. There are situations everywhere with "weasels" who are not doing their job and only trying to get others in trouble thru fake boss friendships. But labeling all boss/employee friendships as such is petty. Unless you are directly being affected by a situation, then gossiping about it and/or insinuating that "there must be something more to this" is certainly not supporting your fellow health care team members. If a true "weasel" exists, and isn't supported with ammunition, they will go away pretty quickly. Do your job, support the team and concentrate on what really matters, your patients. Hugs! MaryRose

I'm waiting too
Oh I am so sorry to hear that..... it's the craziest system. It seems like they should put the names of the people who already missed a "pick" in again giving them at least 2 entries, and a 3rd if they don't get picked again. Seems like it would be more fair. Have you considered COS??? Entry is based on GPA..... so maybe that would get you in quicker? What about LVN then bridge to RN? I am considering that option for myself too...... anything to get started! Fresno State is also GPA based, but at $5000 per semester pretty expensive. Hang in there.... you will get in !!!:) Hugs!! End of Semester blues??????
Sorry about the summer session...... I did that last year. I took a 4 unit spanish class to get my Humanities out of the way. It was fun, but I sure wanted to take the summer off. I understand about the lack of focus right now. I am just NOT THERE in my studying. This is the first semester to have this Spring Fever hit. So I took tonight off, am setting the alarm for early in the morning and am going to try setting a timer for mandatory breaks every 90 minutes. I have to get my last term paper and presentation done before Monday. Yikes!!!! Okay... gonna surf a bit more then hit the sack for a good night sleep. Remember to take breaks.... it does help! Hugs! MaryRose

End of Semester blues??????
Oh my gosh!! I can't even imagine going thru this class without a great Prof. (((((((JKMom)))))))!! Okay.... I feel better about my situation, but sad about what you are going thru. You hang in there too! I can see your frustration. Hugs! MaryRose

End of Semester blues??????
Luckily there are no curves in my two classes.... at least I don't have anyone gonna get mad at me for that.... and I feel for ya there! One issue I have right now is that, as flattering as it is, classmates keep coming to me for help with their projects. Today I was burnt and yet I spent time helping one girl figure out her unknown when mine wasn't even finished yet! I am running out of time... when did this semester suddely get so short??? lol Hang in there too!:) Hugs! MaryRose

I Am In For Fall 05 Yeeehaaaaaaa

End of Semester blues??????
This is the first time this has happened to me.... I am stressssssing over my final projects/papers, the upcoming finals and applying to Nursing school. I know it's the combined stress, I just find myself overwhelmed to the point of tears..... not something I normally do. I have to finish a term paper and power point presentation this weekend for Microbio plus get ready for 2 huge finals in 2 weeks.... microbio and physiology. I have an A in both (which I really need to keep)..... I am a good student and normally enjoy the challenge of tests. I am soooooo dreading these! Anyone else going thru this????? I know I should be overjoyed that my pre-req's are finally almost over, I'm going on a fabulous trip in June and yet all I want to do is cry..... I guess i just want to hear that this is not so unusual.... I'm just not a cryer and this is buuuuuuging me that it's effecting me like this. Any suggestions aside from buying stock in Kleenex corp????? Thanks and sobby HUGS! MaryRose I'm gonna wash my face and head on off to microbio lab and finish my unknowns.... at least that is fun.

I'm waiting too
So sorry you didn't get in on the first try. I will be joining you in the wait for the Spring 06 semester. Don't forget to reapply for Spring 06 as I understand it may not be an automatic entry. I would prefer Fresno City as I live close by in Clovis, but am also dual applying to COS (College of the Sequoias) too. My GPA is 3.6, but if I can't get in one of those two ADN programs, I am going for the LPN to RN route which is determined by whomever gets in line first. Whatever I can do, I am going to be in nursing school by Spring 06. Only 3 more weeks until this semester is over.... last of my pre-reqs! YAYAYAYAYAY! Hang in there!! Where there is a will there is a way!!!:) Hugs! MaryRose

A&P Coloring books?
I also used the "The Anatomy Coloring Book" by Wynn Kapit and Lawrence Elson. It was great and helped me a lot. I bought the next book for Physiology and haven't used it at all..... actually kinda forgot I had the darned thing. I am keeping it tho as a refresher for nurisng school should I need it. I bought the microbio coloring book too and haven't used it either. We just had so many other things to do in these classes that left little time to color! So... where it did help me in anatomy, I wasted the $$ on the other 2. Hugs! MaryRose

GRRRRRRR.... Books
I have emailed the professor for the upcoming classes requesting the book list which has worked pretty well. The whole textbook industry is a rip off in my opinion.... revisions are frequently made just to pad the publishers pockets.
