  1. Highest PEEP you've seen?

Saw this, this week at work: twenty-FOUR of PEEP. WOW!!! 2. 4. Blew my
  2. Clots related to fast afib

I've never heard that about the clotting potential; I agree though that it would be up to surgery. I don't get why you would let someone sit at that high of a rate for so long though- why not give...
  3. Highest PEEP you've seen?

Jeeeezzz those are some crazy numbers right there. The 24 of PEEP was also a large pt- 400lbs- I've never thought of weight factoring into amount of PEEP required but I guess it makes sense that it...
  4. Highest PEEP you've seen?

    Ahh!
  5. Holding Antihypertiensives

That's why I said that *since the pt is a cardiology pt and not in ICU*, I would call the physician in this case. Whether a cardiologist wants a low BP or not, the correct thing to do in this...

A BP of 83/46 has a MAP of 58...in my ICU, if that patient were on pressors we would still be titrating UP (90% of our patients have MAP goals of 65mmHg)...so yes, this BP definitely warrants holding...
  7. My initial thought is that this is not a HIPAA violation as long as there is an option of writing down the info including
  8. How were you wearing the mask if it wasn't covering your mouth? As others have stated, N95 is for airborne precautions and the flu requires droplet precautions- a standard surgical mask is used for...
  9. How do you respond to rude patients?

I agree with the above: to them, they don't know or care that you are taking care of a head trauma patient. All they know is how much pain they're in. I try to be short and sweet- kill them with...
  10. It is *not* a pannus...

EWWW who comes UP with these things??!
  11. It is *not* a pannus...

Your mini seizure was contagious...I'm having one now in response to this^!!! Wizard sleeves are big at the bottom though so I don't really get it. Maybe I'm being too literal,
  12. Crossing a line?

I think that as long as your boss is ok with it, it is ok to stay *cautiously*
  13. Admitting you are wrong

Yeah, some people can just never admit when they're wrong...luckily, I'm always right, so I don't have that problem!
  14. Passing things on

I will never understand this...not only is it illegal but you set yourself up for a lot of liability; you are not covered by the facility if something happens while you are off the clock. I get that...
  15. It is *not* a pannus...

    Guys!

  18. Cops and Nurses

Hahaha! I love it! Gotta love us
  19. Cops and Nurses

Twice got out of speeding tickets going to/from work. Pretty sweet deal considering how much they would've cost and how much my insurance would've gone
  20. Are RNs allowed to arterial stick at your hospital?

    Yep, we do
  21. Getting Thrown Under the Bus

    What happened?
  22. Antidepressants in Sedated/Comatose Patients

Just wrote a long post that got lost. Yes I think they should be continued unless there's a very good reason not to. Some doctors say "they don't need them" while some make every effort to continue...
  23. Iv mag or k+ which do I hang first?

...Agreed. They would also not be getting 800 mEq of
  24. Iv mag or k+ which do I hang first?

I just saw the nemo avatar and assumed it was the OP my bad stargazer...but you still will not wait to correct a K+ of
  25. Iv mag or k+ which do I hang first?

Umm, if the K+ is 1.9 you need to give that first, that is way way way too low...actually I've never seen below 2. A mag of 1.7 is fine to wait if you really don't want to just give them
