  1. Does it bother CRNA's that MDA's get so much more...?

why are we confusing NP and CRNA. They are two different things. Some states including yours do allow CRNA's prescriptive authority for the case, but not like an NP. NP's and CRNA's have very different collaborative practices.
  2. Does it bother CRNA's that MDA's get so much more...?

--------------------------------------------- a few points that you missed from that document: * describes the physician-aprn relationship as collaborative and consultative with a team approach to patient safety; and * streamline and bring consis...
  3. Does it bother CRNA's that MDA's get so much more...?

........not there, lol firstly lets look at number 4,.. now if i perform one surgery every 3 months,.. that would make sense to say that you directly and physically supervise me,.. but alas.. that is not the case. in massachusetts you are allowed to...
  4. First year syllabus request. :D

Thank you! I will definitely do this. i wonder if they offer any of their core classes online because I live in NY and dont want to move as of yet.
  5. First year syllabus request. :D

Hey everyone... after being on this site for years and slowly making my way through the Nursing student board, to the graduate nurse board, to the MICU/SICU board,.. I can now say that I belong on the SRNA board. I just got my acceptance letter from...
  6. First year syllabus request. :D

yes!! it would help me a whole lot! I already took grad pharm and patho, but I don't think my patho class was of the same caliber of what I'll be expected to know. thanks a million!
  7. Is nursing worth it??

I know some people who went to college specifically intending to work for non-profit organizations. Maybe find a major that would help you in community building/planning. Those are the types that bring fresh water wells to poverty stricken areas (i...
  8. Discouraged, need a study partner

The NClex is full of many repetitive questions and concepts. The main part has to do with prioritizing. I used saunders big book of questions so my advice is to truly do tons of those questions and then go over the rationales. As you read the rati...
  9. Does it bother CRNA's that MDA's get so much more...?

------------------------ and what state exactly do you live in? there is a difference between national/federal/state legal policy and independent groups coming up with position papers and standard of care policies. as far as i know, and i encourage...
  10. blood and levophed in same line?

What really should have happened is that after 30minutes of trying to get a secong PIV, and the fact that the patient was on pressors, bleeding (no matter over what time period), and had the potential to receive high volumes of product/fluid,.. the r...
  11. Electronic Stethescope. Yay? or Nay?

Well i've always wanted one, lol. I borrowed a professors electronic stethescope years ago and those things are quite nifty. I have a good Litmanns stethescope now, Cardio III, but I was wondering if the CRNA's out there think that there is value t...
  12. blood and levophed in same line?

Levo is compatible with Normal Saline so its not a fool proof rationale. Actually, in my hospital the SICU (where I work) usually puts everything in NS (as long as there isn't a contraindication), while the MICU tends to put everything in D5W. its ...
  13. Typical ... or even actual... book list.

http://www.nursing.upenn.edu/students/Documents/SRNASummerOrientationLetter2011.pdf here is another book list. its from Upenn June 2011 I think. The letter says that they will be using the majority of these books for the entire program and it also ...
  14. Typical ... or even actual... book list.

just bought clinical anesthesiology by morgan and mikhail
  15. Yes, another question about CRNA pay?

I'm not a CRNA so i can't help with your actual question, but i know for a fact that most people who work along side each other in differenent professions rarely know how much each other make. just recently me and one of my surgical attendings (we h...
  16. Pennsylvanis CRNA's

Is there anyone on this board that practices in Pennsylvania or went to a Pennsylvanis school like UPenn? If so, would you be willing to share your experience training and working in hospitals in that state. Are there many restrictions on your prac...
  17. Have you ever infused phenylephrine peripherally?

Phenylepherine can be used peripherally but care has to be taken to ensure that your PIV does not extravasate. Also, know your pharm and have some Regitine on hand just in case it does.
  18. Nurse/patient ratio in ICU...what is yours?

2:1, max 3:1 but that is rare and usually due to a nurse calling out sick last minute, or extreme bad weather. If you only have 2 nurses on then I think Code Team should be deferred to another unit. What if two codes occurred at the same time?
  19. mistake on heparin??

Wow! some of the responses (the policy/practice of the hospital and not people) are ridiculous. Firstly I don't believe that it is your job to put in 24hours worth of labs slips. 1) Lab slips are suppose to closely correlate with what time the lab...
  20. personally, never, since I rarely discharge patients home in the ICU. But even when I just discharge patients to another floor its just a natural check for me and the other nurses to review all their lines because some lines are managed on the floor...
  21. No more pee?? you will live by pee. During big operations it will be your job to climb under the OR table making sure not to contaminate anything and MEASURE PEE! intake and output will be critical. You need to know their perfusion status, you nee...
  22. I hate when people accuse my pursuit to becoming a CRNA as solely dependent on the money. My general reasons. 1. I love the human body, I love controlling it, altering it, doing everything that I can to help make it better. Becoming a critical par...
  23. IV drip dose error

I do agree that every medication error is a "big deal" in theory because the issue is the the action (or lack there of) and not the consequence. You were lucky since it was just a fentanyl drip and 15mcg/hr is not a problem.. call it a sedation vaca...
  24. How much does your school cost? I'll go first.

Hi. I had applied to Upenn and now those numbers seem so daunting, but I suppose worth it in the end. How do you like UPenn?? Do you believe it is giving you the experience and education that you need. And do you like the social/community aspect ...
