  11. Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?

Agency nurses here make $47 flat rate. There are so many shifts available, you can work 7 days a week. Maybe get cancelled 2-3 times a year. So work 4 shifts a week => 47*12*4*52 = $117K. Not bad....
  12. Accelerated BSN/pursuing nursing career

I went to an accel program that was (gasp) 12 months long and most of us did fine. You won't have any play time, but there were plenty of people in their 40s and most did really well. Go for
  13. My fear of nursing

Why don't you just work day shift? Not hard to find day shift gigs - at least in the cities.
  14. Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?

The hospitals around here are all 12 hr shifts, so there's no 3rd shift. They're always hiring for days and nights.
  15. Nurse NOT among the fastest growing jobs/careers

Computer Software Engineers?!! This proves that this list is nonsense anyway. Those jobs are few and far between these days and layoffs are frequent. How silly!
  16. Do you ever get called, 'Doctor'?

I'm always getting called Doctor - and many times patients familes will only talk to me if there is a female doc in the room. It's really over the top. The funny thing is that this has me thinking...

Wow - it takes 10 years before you get tired of it? That would be great!! I get bored with anything after two or three years.
  18. Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?

Just started a few months ago. So far, so good. I know all about loosing your motivating for your current career. I just couldn't see myself sitting behind that desk saying "we'll touch base later"...
  19. Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?

I was a software developer for 12 years before becoming an ICU nurse. I don't miss my corporate jobs at all.
  20. It To Nursing..??

I spent about 12 years as a software developer before going into nursing. I was completely burnt out! I graduated from nursing school in March and I work in a very high acuity ICU. It's really cool -...
  21. Okay - I'm not quite sure who to ask for recommendations. My boss and preceptors openly trash CRNAs and anyone who wants to go that route, so they're out. There are a few people in the ICU to ask. I'm...
