  1. Clinicals for Excelsior??

It is not necessarily in place of clinical, because it is much less time. It is a test of clinical skills that you already have from prior experience.
  2. university of phoenix

U of P has an excellent reputation. They also have a permanent campus and satellite campuses in different states so they are well known (and popular).

  4. excelsior college what's the real scoop?

What does "What does this mean" mean? :wink2: Most online RN programs are degree completion programs for RNs. There are very few that accept LPNs. Thomas Edison State College has a similar program but you must live or work in NJ.

  6. New Member/Intro

Welcome Linda and good luck with your nursing courses. You should be able to get very specialized work with 2 professions. Good point, most students who use the resources recommended by Excelsior, say that is all that is needed. Some like the study a...

  8. Who will be starting DCN this summer/fall?

Generally the online programs are RN/BSN completion programs. I think Deaconess allows non/RNs. There are numerous threads on this program. Also Excelsior College allows non-RNs with experience to enroll. This is generally LPNs and EMTs.
  9. SCHOOL CREDENTIALS Confused

Both are legitimate accrediting agencies approved by the Department of Education to accredit nursing. NLN is the oldest. CCNE only accredits BSN, MSN, DNS programs. NLN accredits these too and also LPN, RN/Diploma, RN ASN.
  10. Is there and on line LVN to RN program?

A popular one is Excelsior College (http://www.excelsior.edu). There are very few online LPN/RN programs. Most are RN to BSN.
  11. Informatics

Good luck. Informatics is an emerging field in nursing and hopefully after you complete your nursing there will be more graduate programs available. Excelsior mentioned above also has a certificate program.
  12. Second Degree Accelerated or 5 semester BSN- Help me decide

This sounds great and it sounds like you will still be with a regular class for 1 day a week plus 2 days clinical. Since you see the other students in person; the online portion should have new meaning. There are more nurses now with JDs which is a g...

I have not been asked but I know they check a certain % each year.
  14. Final Warning

This happens so often when doctors have too much control in a hospital. With a union hospital at least your side must be heard and the union will fight for you especially in ridiculous instances like this. Funny if you reported a doctor being rude yo...
  15. Choosing a School

The state board of nursing determines which schools in their state can sit for boards. The problem is when graduates try to return to school or move to another state. College programs should be regionally accredited by the agency that is responsible...
  16. Non-accredited schools

It isn't good :uhoh21: As long as a nursing school is approved by the Board of Nursing in that state you can get your RN and work as an RN. The problem comes if you want to get a license in another state and/or get your BS. Most college programs will...

  19. Distance education has been around in America for a long time. Authorities feel that the first distance learning program was a program in shorthand offered by Caleb Phillips and advertised in the Boston Gazette in 1728. Since then distance learning c...
  20. I agree if it weren't for distance education I would still only have me AAS and never had the opportunities that I have had. When I earned my BS and MS, it was by correspondence but I would have rathered online. With online you are in a class and can...

  23. NLN is one and the older of the two. The other is Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Both are recognized by the Department of Education in Washington so a school that is accredited by either is considered nursing accredited. Colleges are gen...
  24. if you choose a college that is both regionally and nursing accredited by agencies recognized by the department of education in washington, you will have no problems. most if not all online rn/bsn programs also have their regular students and have ha...
  25. Excelsior College questions

There are a lot of discussions around this board on Excelsior. I hope that you can find them. Yes, all credits for the RN courses come from the exams that you take. A few states do not allow RN grads from Excelsion take the state boards but there are...
