I am a 25 year old mom to 1 baby girl, and am married. I work as a CNA in a local assisted living community, and want to go to RN school, as I have been procrastination way too long.

    Bon Secours Fall 09

I finally got my advisor, but can't seem to get in touch with her. I went to do financial aid yesterday, and it sucks we will have to pay for books and uniforms out of pocket and then later be reimbursed by financial aid (if you qualify for that). Grrrr. But anyway, all is well, and it seems like I will be starting this Fall granted I pass all of their health assesent stuff and fingerprinting, etc. Helen

I am a CNA, licensed by the state of VA. I went through a local nursing home though, and it was a smart decision. I wouldn't have considered becoming an RN without it, it gives you very valuable experience. I highly suggest becoming a CNA if you don't get into nursing school, it is good experience, and you will never be out of a job. I have been a CNA sinc 2003. Helen

I sure hope they send me all of that stuff soon. I haven't heard anything since the "condtional acceptance" letter, and that was like a month and a half ago. That is a lot of stuff to complete. Wow. :) Helen

They told me that there is a committee hearing next week and people that have completed folders will be reviewed, I hope my folder is complete . . . LOL. I don't know what that means as far as finding out we are accepted, but I hope its a step in the right direction . . . Helen

    Bon Secours Fall 09

Well, I took th TEAS back at the end of Jan. at MCI and they accepted that transcript, but basically it is a lot of science, math, english and reading. I found the science to be the hardest because I don't use a lot of that stuff on a regular basis, so thats what I should've studied more of but I still got a passing score. The math is a lot of algebra, or at least on my test it was, bu there was a few different topics of math on there. And then the english stuff asked about sentence structure and things, there were some spelling questions, etc. I hope this helps and good luck! Helen

I finally applied today, I turned in everything needed, I had the 3 references, the 50 dollars, the application and essay done online, my transcripts, and I have taken the TEAS assessment. Now I guess I just have to wait. LOL. Good luck to everyone. Helen

Im at the Newport News one too. I can't get more assistance than I already am, my EFC is already 0. Maybe something has changed or I am not sure, I will have to talk to them, but I called today and my adviser didn't call back. Helen

Which MCI are you at? Because last year when they told me this, I had like 3200 dollars left to finance, and that equals out to way more than 100 dollars a month, which I can't afford at this time with a new baby. I CAN afford the 100, just not more than that right now. So I am going to go up there and find out what the amount is again and how to finance it, because I also can't get private loans because of credit. Helen

I really want to go to MCI but am unsure about paying for it. Last year they told me that they were a private school so they could only use 90% of federal funding or something for tuition, and that probably will not work for me, so I will probably have to go to BSMSON, but as long as I get the RN I guess that is all that matters, even though it will take 2x the time. :) www.bonsecours.com/bsmson is the website. Take care Helen

Yeah its the TEAS . . . I took it for the RN program today. I would advise getting one of those nurse entrance exam study guides, like by McGraw-Hill, it was like 20 bucks at Barnes and Noble and it was good. Take good care of it, and after you are done, return it, lol. I used it for one day, I wrote in a separate notebook and then took it back after I knew I passed the test. I need to find out if Bon Secours will take my test results from that TEAS attempt because they use the same website ATITesting.com for their stuff too. Then it will help me make a decision. I don't know the 35000 is a lot of money to spend on a ADN but if you can do it in about 18 months, it might be worth it, I am not sure yet. Helen
