  1. RNs caught lying

I suppose lying is a bit harsh. How about fluffing the records?
  2. New grad jobs ANYWHERE?

SoCal area hospitals are still scoping out the new grads. Sign-on bonuses are still the norm here. Top pay is also the norm. Top housing prices is also the norm!
  3. RNs caught lying

Most of the charting was that checklist style. I really found the point of checklists and "overcharting'' to be a good point! For me, I use the checklist as just that - a checklist to help me make sure that I don't forget anything I should be checkin...
  4. Should Doctors Have Guns?

Wow... what a totally radical idea. Uh, that's a big resounding NO! Fast food workers deal with meaner people than doctors do, and people aren't advocating for them to carry guns. If this was a good idea (which it is not), then that logic implies all...
  5. Assessment in 20 mins?

that's quite reasonable once you've become familiar with the hospital. actually, it should be around 5-10 minutes, so that's very generous. a head to toe only takes a couple of minutes and verifying meds is a matter of flipping through the MAR and lo...
  6. Maggot Debridement Therapy

i had a blind diabetic patient that, upon admission, had visible and lively maggots eating away at his already half-eaten toes. they munched on his rotting flesh and prevented infection and amputation. this was not prescribed, however. the maggots we...
  7. What type of a nurse are you?

i'm usually the type that counts down the clock until 7:30AM. i work minimally, and take low census always. when i am at work, i do my job. i pay attention to detail and do my job thoroughly and completely. i definitely treat it more like a job than ...
  8. Two week notice/resignation question??

leave a copy with whomever is considered your superior/boss/supervisor/higher up, AND leave a copy with the person in charge of HR - not the secretary (unless that is standard procedure where you work). How come you're leaving your job, if i might as...
  9. Terrified about Post-Graduation

you'll learn all of that "on the job," so to speak. Don't worry, you'll do great! You'll soon find out that much of your job will be about learning how to do the paperwork - something that is not covered in nursing school. Welcome to nursing :)
  10. ^^^Need Advice: Unsure of what job to take... ^^^

I was reading through this post casually and saw someone mentioned an RN working for Blue Cross with no experience? Does it pay well? Normal hours? That's fantastic! Any more information would be appreciated!
  11. "Fired for NO Reason"

well, i certainly understand where the OP is coming from. However, the OP mentioned this nurse was a new grad. this is part of the reason why nursing has very few nurses that stick around - so much criticism goes on. she is NEW... I think more educat...
  12. My son called me lazy for being sleepy during the daytime!

tell that immature, naive, dorito-eating, skid-stained underpants, hyperactive walking-hormone to go work 12.5 hours and see if he doesn't feel like sleeping during the day. oh, and don't forget to tell your son a little something, too!
  13. I Had to Cry at Work Today....

well.. what's the prognosis? depending on if that's good, i think it could make you feel a bit better :)
  14. Is this odd to you too?

i don't think the hospital will honor the non-cooler thing. it's a bio hazard and unsafe. unless the funeral home comes immediately, which they usually do not. it takes them a while. the embalm thing is pretty common (or uncommon). embalming is a req...
  15. Working as a stripper AND a nurse

Hello everyone. I was wondering, is it detrimental to my job as an RN if I am also stripping on the side for additional money? Can I be fired for this? I know there are morality issues (for some) and such with this, but is it legally wrong? I live in...
  16. Working as a stripper AND a nurse

Correct, but that was for another post, and not this one. Also, to mama, I understand your point but do not agree with it.
  17. personal problems lead to license revocation?

i don't believe you can have your license taken away for an allegation. the mishap would have to be a convicted done deal before something would be done. right, everyone?
  18. personal problems lead to license revocation?

yup, you have to define the whatever part before this can be answered. although, to have one's kids legally taken way does require significant cause (usually?), and therefore, i would imagine this would jeopardize one's nursing license.
  19. If you could invent nursing supplies, what would it be?

lol, that made me laugh out loud (the bat comment)
  20. Working as a stripper AND a nurse

I'm not against breastfeeding, and I don't discourage it. Some may find it uncomfortable and therefore it has to be done discreetly/privately/alone. This topic isn't even related to the post. Equinox understood my point, and I'm sure others do as wel...
  21. What the heck do these people think?

i agree with a couple of others on here: nursing school (RN) was pretty pleasant and not nearly as difficult as what some were making it out to be. Reflecting back on it while in graduate school, I would absolutely love to retake basic nursing again....
  22. If you could invent nursing supplies, what would it be?

I really like the moveable bed idea (to help move them up!). It would also be pretty cool to have the bed surface move laterally to transfer patient's from bed to bed. Oh my, our backs would be so much better! My hospital already has beds that automa...
  23. How do you keep from catching everything?

Over time you should become immune to it. In the beginning I was taking Airbourne and that seemed to work well - it's full of electrolytes and those healthy vitamins. Also, right when you start to feel sick, take it. I have and it has helped me. My ...
  24. Working as a stripper AND a nurse

A strip club is a place where men (and some women) go to pay to see breasts at work. Breastfeeding is a private matter and may make people uncomfortable in a setting where it is not expected. That's the point I was making.
  25. 30 minutes leeway with PRN meds?

our hospital says we have a 30-45 minute leeway for PRN medication, especially if it's for something like pain or vomitting. Given that, we are also told to use our "professional judgement". That means, if a patient is getting vicodin and you've been...
