  5. You just can't make this stuff up!

I had a home care client with psych issues. Among other things, he was terrified of being hit by a tsunami. He lives in the mountains, 4 hours from the ocean. Back in my ER volunteer days, a man strutted in one afternoon (think John Travolta at the e...

  14. What Does A Graduate Nurse Do?

It depends on the facility and the state. I graduated in a state with no "graduate nurse" status. You were a nurse the day you passed the NCLEX, and not one day sooner. I graduated May 31st and took the NCLEX July 24th. I did some job hunting in Pit...
  15. Job hunt before passing Nclex

I graduated in a state that doesn't have "graduate nurse" status. New grads can't legally work as nurses until they pass the NCLEX. Any local job offers were contingent on passing the NCLEX.

In 10 years of nursing, I saw and experienced peer to peer bullying several times, particularly when I worked in Assisted Living and in Nursing Home Hell. Yes, really. It happened. Call me a snowflake all you want.
  20. Student loans for off campus housing?

I don't judge anyone for not wanting to live with their parents. My mother was an emotionally abusive hoarder. Living with her was not an option. Money isn't everything. Student loans can be used for living expenses. That said, student loan debt is t...
  21. A Cautionary Tale About Student Loan Forgiveness

I've seen enough posts here about government-sponsored student loan forgiveness programs for working in places like Native American Reservations and critical access hospitals. The lawyers in this story were counting on student loan forgiveness after ...

  23. Misuse of the ER

In my experience, people use the ER for non-emergency problems because they have no alternatives, even with insurance and a PCP. When I lived in Boston, the city had a huge PCP shortage and no urgent care. When CVS introduced Minute Clinics, Boston'...
  24. Where Were You...9/11
