  1. Patient beds in hallways

This is something that is being discussed at our hospital however no one except management supports the idea. I hope it never actually happens, I really see no positives to this except the wait times for beds looks shorter.
  2. Don't worry I so have senioritis as well. Graduation date June 12!!!! I'm doing psyc/community right now a kind of feel like its a waste of my time. (I haven't even opened my home health book and still have an A) We have to just hang in there and ...
  3. When someone calls off or if they are short then they pull a nurse from another floor. It kind of stinks.
  4. Nurses and Coffee

There is a starbucks in the hospital I work at and a Dunkin Donuts across the street...Love them both
  5. I'm not sure what you are saying with "the red tape line" but I know our hospital did away with the float pool about a year ago. All the nurses had to either go to a floor/department or find another job. Just an FYI we are the level one trauma cent...
  6. Gardasil: has your daughter had this vaccine?

My gyn vaccinated her son, it is not covered by insurance so she paid out of pocket. She told me that in other countries boys and girls can get the vaccine however in this country they feel as though vaccinating one gender is good enough.
  7. Work and school...not doing too good :(

Right now I work 24 hours a week (and pick up if possible) I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That gives me all week to work on paperwork and study. Also since I don't have classes on Saturday and Sunday I have extra time to study or do paperwork...
  8. Pediatric Nanda Diagnoses

During my peds rotation and a pediatric burn hospital we used regular NANDA diagnosis, they aren't specific related to client age. The diagnosis you have should not be a risk for if your client has actual pain, it should be acute pain. Some others...
  9. Which rotation are you just hating?

OB was the my least favorite. My instructor would not let us touch the patients unless she was in the room and we were never to touch the newborns. We gave no medications and she literally told us we can give ice chips if the RN said it was alright...
  10. Fast Meal Ideas

I'm going with the crock pot. Some things I have made are BBQ, pot roast, and soups and stews. If you search the site there should be some links for quick meals as well.
  11. One of the CD's that came with our books has journal articles on there, you may want to see if your book has anything like that. Sorry that's all I've got
  12. Do you think this was unfair?

I don't want to come off as mean or rude however it is your responsibility to make sure you can turn in your homework or have a babysitter, not your schools. In my school you would have been dismissed for missing clinical not even to mention the con...
  13. I'm in an ADN program and our ratios are generally 1:8/10 depending on how many people drop out or fail. This is for all of the clinical sections from acute care, OB, to the first quarter. I haven't had any problem with this nor have I heard any co...
  14. partners for clinical-help!

My suggestion is this do what you need to do, and take care of yourself since this is your second time around. If that involves ignoring your partner and proceeding as if she wasn't there then do that. I wouldn't let anyone else hold me back. Als...
  15. $800 worth of textbooks for one class????

My first quarter of school was about 1,000 for all the books, however each quarter after that I only have to spend about 100 for maybe one or two additional books. Most of the books we used first quarter we use for the rest of the program. So yes i...
  16. Refusing Mandatory Vaccination

The hospital I work at mandates that we get the flu vaccine as well, the only exceptions are severe allergic reactions to vaccinations in the past documented by a MD. If you do not get the vaccine by the set date you will be terminated plain and sim...
  17. Failure rate of nursing schools.

Our program starts out with about 100 students and graduates about 50 the NCLEX pass rate for the last three years has been 98-100% the average for all years is 98%. So if you make it thru you will most likely pass the boards
  18. Advice needed

I do not read every word on every page, I pay attention to the little boxes on the pages and the main ideas and anything that was emphasized in class. I could never actually read everything.
  19. Advice needed

This is what I do, however it may not work for you. I go to class pay attention and take good notes. I then outline the reading each night or when I have a chance (sometimes I can get to school early and do some catching up before class) I then typ...

  22. Parents at Orientation

While no one came with me to my orientation several people had their parents or even s/o there with them. My program even encouraged it so that they will hear from the horses mouth what the program entails and how much help outside of school we will...
  23. Example of Nursing School Notes? Pls help!

We get a power point for each of our lectures. To study I read the assigned text and outline it, usuall I write it first, then type it if I have time. The repitition helps me. Here is an example, hope it helps. I also will put tables in if it is s...
  24. Home/Study Schedule (with family)

You may want to ask this in the student section to get more feedback but I will tell you what I do. First off I have no children but I do work 32hrs a week in a hospital. Here is my typical week from last quarter Sun usually tried to sleep in then s...
  25. What do you use to carry your 500 books around in?

My friend drives a motorcycle to class, when he does this he only brings the notes for class that day (or prints them off when he gets there) most of us don't use our books or even study at school but that may be just us. We usually studay at home or...
