  1. Admissions and Pregnancy

They usually don't really consider it a liability from what I've seen. One of my friends was 6 months pregnant when she started. They'll want information like how far along she is so they can figure out things like clinicals but it honestly shouldn't...
  2. First week of school! :-)

I have orientation tomorrow and I'm excited and nervous. I'm taking five classes this semester (required sequence for our program). My first day of class is on Tuesday and it's my nursing lab class. I think it's weird to have that before you have the...
  3. First week of school! :-)

Hahah man that is crazy. Small world eh? I don't start until another week (Sept 7th) and I'm freaking out but so excited to get into it.
  4. ((help help nursing confusion))

The associate's is only faster depending on the school that you choose to go to. Some schools have waiting lists and take 3 to 4 years before you get accepted in the program. The bachelor's does take a little longer but usually bachelor degree progra...
  5. What other careers did you consider?

I considered every closely relatable health profession. Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Respiratory Therapist. I was pretty much sold on nursing but I wanted to keep my options open. The closest competition was Spee...
  6. Well, No Nursing for Me

To the OP, based on your last response it seems like you don't have a problem with the exam, moreso that you don't feel you should take an exam that is cumulative. How can you be so sure no other programs have exams like these? I'm sure in other heal...
  7. No phones at clinical

Our program requires us to have some kind of PDA for clinicals, so I guess they must be giving us a crutch. We have to buy the skyskape program because we don't have books specifically for clinicals. I'm getting an iTouch so I won't have the phone pr...
  8. Help help urgent decision making

Definetely pick out some schools first. Most schools vary in the classes they want. My BSN program had pre-req classes that a lot of people didn't need like 2 philosophy classes, 4 english classes, a communication class ect.
  9. They bumped up our minimum passing grade point average...

77 or C+ but we get exit hesi's every semester and passing is an 800 or you go into remediation, regardless of if you pass all classes.
  10. Few jobs for new grads? Help!

Where there's a will there's a way. It's true a lot of new grads can't find jobs but some actually do, some get lucky and some are really liked. Don't be scared out of something you want because you never know what may happen. You could be one of the...

  12. Private School or Community College?! Please Help

Well I agree if you could go the cheap route then go the cheap route but waiting two years at least with still no real guarantee would kind of suck wouldn't it? All the cc's in my area are too competitive and difficult to get into. I have a 3.6 gpa b...
  13. Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing

Yes it is double acceptance. Other than the pre-req classes you also have to take the NLN Pax RN.
  14. RNs, does your salary let you live cormfortably?

Most salaries in NYC are around 70-74K a year not including night diff, if you work nights you could make around 80 and this is as a new grad. Some hospitals add on 1,000 a year for every year of experience. These salaries are lower if you live upsta...
  15. What is the true future of Nursing 2010 and Beyond?

Well I'm still a student but there is a number of reasons why people get the degrees they get. Some people get Associates because they are cheaper and you can start work faster. Some people do get Bachelor's so they can quickly go into NP programs an...
  16. Biting your tongue when it comes to visitors!!

I've been in my mom's room plenty of times when she was in the hospital. I was usually pretty quiet and when th nurse or doctor came to speak to her or something, I moved out of the way, no one usually said anything. I did eat in her room sometimes, ...
  17. My most important tip for a nursing student is....

Definetely have a little fun, if you feel guilty about it then you can try to incorporate it. Some of the girls from my school go out with eachother one night out of the week and they do talk about class lectures, give eachother tips ect but they als...
  18. Well, No Nursing for Me

This doesn't really make much sense to me, but maybe I'm misreading it. Nurses are meant to catch doctor mistakes, that doesn't mean the doctor has to like or appreciate it. Most doctors don't like it when they are corrected by a nurse (or anyone els...
  19. I'm only starting my nursing program in Sept but I can already tell that my Spring semester will be issues. It has to do with what others mentioned with clinical times. Our OB clinical is only listed to be from 8-12. Now I find that VERY strange beca...
  20. Tips on surviving through nursing school

I haven't started yet but one of the things that my developmental psych professor told us to do when we had to study was don't just read, but take notes on the book! I'm a little OCD so anything I need to know, I have to write it down, some people se...
  21. First day of nursing School *unleashed* post yours

Yes most NYC nursing programs do not do clinicals at nursing homes. Our first clinical is in geriatrics but it's in a hospital. We don't go into the hospital until the end of October. Orientation for us is Sept 1st, I'm excited and nervous. Our orie...
  22. Does anyone know adn programs with dorms in ny or nj?

You're not going to find many schools with single dorms in NY.
  23. HESI A2 Entrance Exam

For me majority of the vocab from the book wasn't on my exam. There were a few of the basic medical ones but there were a number of A&P questions. Also they weren't phrased like they are in the book so you couldn't use context clues. They aren't ...
  24. Hunter College Adult NP Program

Hunter College has a great nursing reputation in the city. The tuition is cheap because it's a state school, while Columbia is a private university. However due to the cheaper tuition, the admission process for Hunter is actually more difficult and a...
  25. Are nurses becoming more negative on Allnurses?

I'm a nursing student and honestly, I take everything online in general with a grain of salt. I don't think this forum is different from any other kind of forum. People with different experiences and different opinions. Lately there's been an influx ...
