I definately don't think the "floors before ER" thing applies to everyone. It looks like you were an EMT before becoming a nurse. That experience alone gave you a huge advantage in your transition...
So given the choice between the 2 hospitals, which would you choose? I'm in ER myself, but any opinion on the hospitals as a whole would help too, I'm looking to join forces with one of them!
Awesome! Thank you so much for your response LovingOBFutureFNP! Thats exactly the kind of information I was looking for! I think its the place for me...I'm crossing my fingers that I get in! Its also...
I put them on for all traumas coming in, sometimes tho they're not always bloody so you don't always need em, but I keep em on in case, never know when they'll suddenly sit up in bed and hurl one in...

Did I always know? Yes. I always was most intrigued by ER nursing. I loved the broad range of knowledge it required. I loved the idea of being able to handle emergencies ranging in acuity from minor...

Ha, I came to the same conclusion when I became a travel nurse. I wonder... If all the travel nurses and agency nurses stopped moving around and took staff positions, would there be a "nursing...

Ah, "centered"... sounds so zen I think routine helps. Its comforting in a way. Theres so much craziness/randomness/can't see it coming/be ready for anything type stuff at work that routine where...

Hey so you all seem DFW area savvy :) Lemme ask, if you were a young single nurse accepting a job at Parkland... where would you wanna live in the area? I've lived in FW for a couple years but...
So I'm a huge believer in your coworkers making all the difference between loving and hating your job. As a travel nurse, I've worked in many different hospitals, and I'll tell you, the patients are...
I'm tired... I'm so tired. I'm worn out. I've found myself thinking more and more of different jobs I'd like to do if I weren't a nurse. And the thing is... I can't think of one that I'd really like...

Yes and yes. Well, swing shifts in the ED. Mostly on the 11a-11p. Sometimes a 1p-1a here and there. Thank you all for your replies. Theres some real good stuff in there. I find myself in this place...
sometimes as i'm interviewing a patient their eyes become big. they turn their heads, distracted, and cry out in pain. i sit still, unaffected, waiting for the episode to pass, as it eventually...
As said by many before me, your statement was not inappropriate at all. As nurses, and as ER nurses inparticular, we put up with crap and verbal abuse so much that we forget we don't have to! We lose...

With interviews my suggestion is to get in your head some of your best moments as a nurse. A lot of the questions that are asked are like "So tell me about a time that you showed good leadership"...

Ah! So true! From both ThrowEdNurse and Pererau. To Pererau: I too have worked both sides but I don't think this was as much saying "Other floors/units aren't working as hard as me" as it was saying...
Yeah that sounds exactly like my situation! It gives me hope :) Thank you all for your advice! I feel much better about it... I'm gonna give it a little more time, in June will be my 3 year...
OK... so I need a little advice. I was a travel nurse for about a year or so.. loved it. Saw a bunch of different states and had a great time. But after awhile got tired of the cardiac/tele floors I...
Thanks... and yeah, you're right. I'm not in a contract, I really technically have every right to leave at any time... like you said, things happen. I guess I just wanna make sure I leave on good...
