  1. Is this scenario considered resident abuse?

If there was a PRN med ordered, I would give it to her. She's had not one, but two psych evals since her admission last month and still no meds...well, she's on Buspar daily, but that doesn't help....
  2. Does your employer recognize "Nurse's Day"?

  3. Health Care Worker Stress - Another Example

What a sad story...God bless that RT and their family. No one should be that stressed at their
  4. Is this scenario considered resident abuse?

This is kinda off the subject, but my facility is considered restraint free as well and it's gotten to the point where I think it's ridiculous. No restraints + short staff = broken hips from falls....
  5. Does your employer recognize "Nurse's Day"?

Nope...they don't recognize us on Nurse's Day, or any other day for that matter. Didn't get a dang thing. Not even a Happy Nurse's Day over the intercom. I can't stand the administration at my place....
  6. pain between shoulders - dumb question!

I have the same problem, and if you find out what it is, please let me know! I first went to my regular doc who gave me an EKG and although it was normal, she sent me to cardio to be sure. I had an...
  7. Male coworkers harrassing female staff...

I agree with the posters who said to leave your husband out of it. If I were in your situation, I'd tell the guy the next time he reaches out to touch me, he's going to pull back a bloody stump. Set...
  8. What patient phrase today made your day great?

I am always joking around with my patients. I like to keep the mood light whenever possible. Since I'm in LTC, we get to know each other pretty well and it's nice to make each other laugh. Everytime I...
  9. Nursing Home ratios??

I work in NY and I have 20 patients. It can get pretty hairy at times especially when I have emergencies and a ton of meetings to go to. The powers that be always seem to throw in an inservice or two...
  10. I'm a potential bone marrow match!

That is a wonderful thing you are doing. I would be excited as well!! Keep us posted as to what's going
  11. Sad for my neighbor, didn't know what to say!

Great job! Family counselling is one of the most difficult areas of our profession. I bet she would appreciate it if you stopped by with some cookies and had tea with
  12. Federalize Nursing Licenses! Who's with me?

That's a fabulous idea! I think it's too logical for the powers that be to have come up with it.
  13. My first love is Art, so I would choose art history and maybe work as a museum curator or have my own art gallery. That would be a
  14. Friends and nurses

Most of my friends are the people that I work with...but not only the nurses. I am friends with people in other departments as well. But, my best friend of course is my husband and he's not a nurse...
  15. Thinking about a career in Acute Dialysis!

Dialysis brings back a memory for me. It was the only thing I saw in nursing school that made me pass out. I am by no means very squeamish or a 'passer outer' but watching the blood go in and out and...
  16. Survey of Nurses Rights In Abortion

Couldn't have said it better myself except to add that like it or not, performing an abortion is causing a death. I think ANYONE has a right to refuse to partake in
  17. Would you assist in abortions?

No, I would not assist in abortion as I do not support it. I think birth control starts before you have sex when you use a condom or other method. You should be thinking about whether you want to be...
  18. Poll: What type of report?

We have a written report, but we go over it with the oncoming shift in case they have any questions before we
  19. Never...well, I'll make that rarely. I leave at least 20 minutes late every day, but most of the time it's half an hour. The only time I can count on leaving on time is holidays. I threaten the lives...
  20. New Shoes!!!

Cool! I posted a thread about my new shoes a little while back. I know how exciting this can be for a nurse! :rotfl: Good luck with
  21. hours??

I had no problem getting day shift at my facility. Most places are so short, they'll take you for any shift. I am required to work every other weekend and could not choose my days off during the week...

  23. Blackheads

Funny I should read this thread while doing my weekly facial... :) I have always had blackheads on my nose, chin, and between my eyebrows. Once a week I use Biore pore strips on the aforementioned...
  24. Nursing Salary Hall of Shame

I am an LPN in NY. I made almost $50,000 in 2003 with OT. Without it, I make about $45,000. My salary is lower than most in my area for an LPN because I work for a county facility but you can't beat...
