  11. USA FNP Program

Finishing up Dec 2021. It was an OK program. I was tough for me at first but I also has alot of personal issues going on. I had to cut my schedule to 32 hours a week to get in 3 days a week for clinicals. Before clinicals I was working 40-50 hours a ...
  12. No, you should not postpone nursing school.
  13. Average amount of call time for OR nurses?

It depends on the OR. I work in a non trauma OR so we do 2 days a month. I sign up for three so that I wont ever get placed in an open slot. So, thats ! weekend and 1 week day. So, about 24 hours in a month. I would say you would need about 1 year to...
  14. ER to OR

I made the move about three years ago from ER to OR. I dont love it but it works for me at the moment. I miss using my skills. I didnt become a nurse to just chart, position, and answer the doctor's phones.
  15. How to transition from OR nursing to the floor?

I did LTC, Hospice, Home Health, and ER before I went to the OR. After 3 years I am bored but I have no idea where I want to go. I am currently getting my MSN and I dont have to think hard nor am I under pressure. I do miss my skills and I am thinkin...
  16. Northside Hospital Atlanta

Sadly you wont learn scrub experience at Northside. Wellstar, Emory and possibly Grady will teach scrubbing.
  17. Job Hopper

What about trying a different setting. They have Hospice, Home Health and the pay is better and normally you can make your own schedule. Also what about a doctor's office or clinic?

Tuition towards RN classes, scrubs, and nursing books tools to help me transistion from student to competent nurse.
  19. OR call schedule

We dont have a large OR. Most nurses work 7-3 or 7-7. We have a few other shifts like 9-5, 11-7, 11-11, and 7p-7a. We day shifters take one weekday call of 11-7 and One weekend call your choice 7-3, 3-11, or 11-7. We have a CVOR team and they do thei...
  20. struggling in orientation

Your skills will come in time. You know a lot more than you think you do. I have been in the OR for 18 months, with many of those months totally on my own and doing procedures I never done on my own. I guess they saw nothing scared me because I came ...
  21. cloth hats

Everyone wears the cloth hats in our OR but they must be covered with a the disposable hat.
  22. Specialities in the Operating Room...

I am not on a team and I told my job I don't want to be. I do it all, I might go from general to ortho to neuro to cysto in one day. I don't see how some nurses like seeing the same thing day in and day out. I get bored really quick. My floor has: or...
  23. OR-specific scrubs

Mine does and every hospital that I performed OR clinicals or interviews. They must wear hospital provided scrubs. We have had MD's come from other hospital scrubs and operate, that is not within AORN standards.
  24. Northside Hospital Atlanta

I did Northside's OR residency and ICURNBSN2 is not lying. Didn't matter if you had experience as a nurse or not. Two year contract to sign and you are lead to believe this is a great company. You do not get a choice on the surgical service specialti...
  25. Where do you work? (Hospital)

I work for Northside. The traffic sucks. I LOVED it until management change. Its still not that bad but we were fine before with the manager we had, and the the four new mangers we received.
