  1. Narcissistic Personality Disorder

And I always thought most nurses have OCD......on our IV team we swear we all have it! You know...check, check, check......check again.......check. OK, let's put the PICC in.....PICC assistant nurse comes along.....check, check, check.....just one m...
  2. No, we don't think doctors jobs are any less crucial than ours, but this is ALLNURSES.COM, not alldoctors.com. And we're not "waiting for the doc to give us orders".....we're following an orderset or hospital protocol. Even if we don't have an orders...
  3. Absence of Manners

you mean they bring their own food instead of ordering 3 trays of food "for the patient?" we have room-service style patient meals, and the patients can order as much food as they like as often as they like from 6:30am until 10pm. i've never knew pa...
  4. Absence of Manners

which explains why my hospital switched nurses to maroon scrub pants....
  5. personal cell phone and the internet and impact on staff moral

i'm guessing it was the old, analog cell phones that interfered with things, because our icus issue cell phones to the nurses for their shifts.
  6. personal cell phone and the internet and impact on staff moral

I'll admit I keep my cell phone in my pocket when at work....most of us do. It's on vibrate and if goes off I'll check it at my next available free moment. I don't answer in a pts room and I don't text in pt care areas. I will text when I'm in a n...
  7. Absence of Manners

iv pole dancing class....i love it!! (i mean, i love the joke....not hoping it actually comes to fruition!)
  8. ACLS for soon to be GN? Advice please.

acls was included in our rn training. we had to take a dysrhythmia course first, and then had acls classes in our curriculum and had to pass the megacode to get our card. it was very valuable to be able to apply for jobs and say that i was already ...
  9. An LPN is a nurse just as an RN is a nurse. Please don't tell me that an LPN who gives PO, IM, SQ, ID, SL, PR and IV meds, does wound care, updates careplans, calls physicians and takes orders, is the only nurse for a LTC unit, starts IVs, does trac...
  10. "You cannot have BSN or MSN on your nametag?"

our hospital allows only your professional title....rn, lpn, md, pt, etc. no education level or certification. under our title is the department we work in....micu, ed, peds etc. it matters not to me, i only want the pt to see that i'm an rn.....th...
  11. Back to Traditional Nursing Uniforms?

that's exactly how my hospital handled it. rns and lpns wear either all white or white tops with maroon scrub pants, cnas wear all maroon, radiology wears dark blue, respiratory wears black (hey, they picked their own color), medical records wears p...
  12. What's your reason for putting up with it?

samanthaeh, first, thank you for the compliment of asking for my feedback. i wasn't always assertive; it took time and experience to gain self confidence in my skills and assessments. while i no longer let myself be taken advantage of, i also don't g...
  13. do you care about your patients?

You can't please everyone all of the time. As long you're doing your best, don't worry about it. You'd burn out quickly if you took everyone's problems to heart.
  14. What's your reason for putting up with it?

We also have to remember that even our patients who are usually A&O may not have all their wits about them since we often-times give them medications that can affect the way they think and behave. And EvolvingRN is also correct in pointing out th...
  15. What's your reason for putting up with it?

i agree that patient isn't exempt....he'd probably end up in four point restraints at our facility. i was thinking more of the lol's who kick or bite or hit when they don't understand what we're doing. even though i may tell her i'm putting in an i...
  16. Small nose piercings at work?

my nursing school was a bit different, they allowed piercings anywhere in the ear, and small piercings in the nose or eyebrow. tattoos were supposed to be covered due to institutional policies, but most of the time that wasn't enforced, unless the t...
  17. no cell phones no personal phone calls at work

  18. no cell phones no personal phone calls at work

ummm.....well you have the right to believe what you wish, but i'm keeping my phone in my pocket on vibrate, so you'll just have to stay away from me. oh, and i assume your facility hasn't yet gone to giving all the nurses cell phones while at work....
  19. no cell phones no personal phone calls at work

We're allowed to have our cell phones on us, but not use in pt care areas. So if I'm in a pts room and feel it vibrate, I can excuse myself if possible and go into the break room and check the message. Also, our facility recently purchased cell phon...
  20. What's your reason for putting up with it?

i also have been screamed at, hit, spit on, kicked, choked and grabbed by patients. most of the time i can talk them down or otherwise diffuse the situation; if not i call a "doctor green" and all available male employees respond to take control of t...
  21. What would you do?

    i love it!!!
  22. Why did you if you hate it ?

i'll be the first to admit that i don't iron my uniform. it may not have crisp, starched seams, but it is clean and relatively free of wrinkles. as single mom of four working full time while continuing my education towards my bsn, ironing is the last...
  23. Why did you if you hate it ?

wow. my hospital does it's best to keep the rn/pt ration at 1:5 or 6 on regular med/surg floors during days and evenings and 1:8 at the most at night. plus there is usually one cna for every 8-10 pts during all shifts. i'm counting my blessings!
  24. it's the only in the above sentence that makes me growl. we couldn't function very well without our cnas or mas!
  25. Small nose piercings at work?

i think the "undergarment" problem-lack of or visible through white scrubs- is the reason our hospital switched rn uniforms to maroon colored scrub pants!
