I have been employed at my facility for >20 years , coming up on 25. I am nearing the end of my rope. I worked in another dept while going to nursing school for over 18 years and have been an RN for 5 and 1/2 years. I spent 4and1/2 in Med-Surg and...

  3. Should I stay or should I go?

You need orientation as a new grad, you are setting yourself up for problems by working inareas that you are not ready for. The fact that you are questioning it, should be your answer, if it fees wrong to you, it is wrong. Your family doesn't hold yo...
  4. Lost job over HIPAA violation, what is employment potential?

I am aware of people being fired over HIPAA violations and others who have had lawsuits with judgements involving jail time. HIPAA guidelines are getting even stricter so I agree that this nurse must be mature enough to realize the mistake and never ...
  5. I believe that the fact that you asked on this forum made you suspect that what you did was not a good idea. I remember very clearly from 1st semester nursing school-- it was drummed into our heads- "NEVER EVER chart anything, you did not, do , see, ...
  6. BSN or certification in case management first?

I think you would be wise to do both. I am an ADN with a diploma and a BS in another field. I work as a CM and am looking for a BSN program to start this fall. I also will take CM certification test once I have worked the required hours.
  7. A MS with no bedside experience is no better than any other new grad with no bedside experience. But, you will expect a higher salary won't you? Just my opinion.
  8. Please help me out with this...

I am not sure but you may be shown a series of patient scenarios on a computer and asked how you would react to it: ie. you walk in the room and patient is unresponsive etc-what do you do 1st? or-- you have a patient presenting a certain series ...
  9. Insensitive nurses

Your statement is so true, we should always be aware of what we say in front of patients, and family members for that matter. Also, our voices carry from the nurses station to the patient rooms- so we should give evreyone the dignity and respect that...
  10. Move Over, Norma Rae

    I agree with Daytm
  11. Insensitive nurses

I am very proud of you for having the professionalism and fortitude (both traits lacking in that insensitive manager as well as a few other basic human traits I would assume), to report such unacceptable behavior. Please, please, please, do not allow...
  12. Negativity? On allnurses???

I have noticed negativity but I think we all just have bad days and we just vent from time to time. What I find difficult to deal with is nurse on nurse hostility on the job but that is another topic anyway. I think we should still support each other...
  13. I would take a little less pay for a guaranteed M-F schedule with less stress any day. The CM job goes on and on and on and on. It is a difficult one and can be so gut wrenching at times because regs and insurance guidelines tie your hands and there ...
  14. We are exempt and work a 40 hour week that is comprised of 5 , 8 hour shifts. Our hospital is now a "7" day a week hospital which means there is "7" day coverage. Meaning that weekends are covered while people still have 2 days off each week. Our cas...
  15. Death of a Special Co-Worker

So very sorry for your loss, I am sure she is in heaven now continuing to watch over her son.
  16. Having a hard time w/ the elderly lately

I now have more insight into the posters' situation and the elderly can be scary if you have not had experience with them. They also can be extremely stubborn, set in their ways and even defiant. I do believe that they are often afraid of losing cont...
  17. Having a hard time w/ the elderly lately

I hope that the nurse that cares for you when you are old has more patience than you do. I cherish the old patients I care for and I give them the respect that they deserve.
  18. Customer Service: The Clinic Level

Unfortunately people have forgotten how to treat one another. It only takes a few seconds longer to be nice to people.I try to interact with other people in the same way that I would like to be treated. It is frightening enough to go to a new appointm...

  21. tears and more tears

You are doing the best you can for your patients. I remember the self doubts I had as a new grad-- it isn't easy to be a nurse. The fact that you show concern for your patients long after your shifts with them have ended, tells me that you are a grea...
  22. Stethoscope colors...HELP!

My purple Littman is always exactly where I left it--no one tries to take it ever,,,,,so I am quite happy that I bought purple. I think you should go with seafoam--- it is neutral and probably will not get Lost (stolen) as easily as a black or ceil. ...

No, heavens no, you are not too old. I went to nursing school at age 43! It was a life long dream that I fretted about for too many years. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Go for it !!! I am sure you will do great!:loveya:
  24. Feeling guilty

It is in our natures as very caring people to feel guilty but you are not guilty of anything. You did your best in the situation. You are not responsible for her not having her scripts filled as directed. You did everything that you were supposed to ...
  25. Is this the general opinion?

Ignore her and keep on going through school. I didn't know what I wanted to do when I was in school. It is 4 years later and I still don't know for sure. I just know one thing: I love being a nurse and do not ever regret going to school to be one at...
